OK-

So I was mowing the lawn, deep in thought as it happens during long car rides and showers, etc....

And I was thinking about whether or not it would really be a good idea to buy into GCV when they are made available. Being from the East Coast, we would plan on going only once every 3 years. Instead, I thought, it would be better to rent from other owners OR just pay for the room through Disney itself! This is what I thought until I checked out the Disneyland.com website. For this summer (summertime is when we travel being teachers) it was $400+ a day in a standard view room! :scared1: For a pool/resort view add $100 a day. :sad2:

Is this price typical? We have only stayed at GCV once on DVC points and loved our stay, but with times being what they are, I was thinking about holding onto the money that we would use to purchase points there. NOW, I am thinking that buying points may actually be the most economic way - depending on forthcoming point charts.

Anyone else here been having similar thoughts?

Yup, those prices are typical.
Remember Disney only has 3 hotels in California and they are always pricey.

The surrounding non-Disney hotels are a better deal financially and there isn't the same need to be on-site there as there is at WDW.

This visit I am paying 340 a night, standard view AAA discount..and yes, can't wait until GCV come up for sale :)

The rates over the last few years have really increased and discounted rooms are few and far between. Sure makes me glad I have my DVC points!

I bet it is going to be a good deal -maybe if the only hotel is GCF when and if Disney dedcides when they are going to upgrade or demolish the Disneyland Hotels towers-you could be almost certain of a room at the Grand Cal.

I wonder if when/if they reconstruct DLH they will include a DVC component?

it would be nice to see another new resort that enhances the Disney emersion at Disneyland and I would bet on a DVC sister property if GCF's villas sell well--which they will. But for nestalga I would hate too see the triple towers go-after all Walt did the deal with one of his longtime friends to have a hotel near the park. But I think the 2 older hotels are doing no favor to the rest of the resort. I visited in 96-97 for the 1st time and what a Great Job Disney did when they created DTD and the Grand Cal and parts of DCA.
