Disneyland getting healthier

Actually the whole idea of social responsibility is that you control what is under your control........and Disney has total control and responsibility of what is sold on their property. They don't allow you to make choices about lap restraints, or whether it is safe for your toddler to ride Space Mountain. Why should food with no nutritionally redeeming value be different? People die of lifestyle diseases daily.....much more frequently than fall out of rollrcoasters!
It sounds like Disney is trying to walk a tight rope....and once again good for them.

I highly doubt that churros and ice cream will be dissapering any time soon.

The problem (aside from people being upset if their favorite treat is one of the 20 that they eliminate) is that Disney (or the government, or whoever) shouldn't be telling us what's good for us and what's bad for us. Make information available, add healthier food, but don't take away the treats that many people like. If people eat too many of the treats, that's their problem! Not Disney's! Adults should be able to decide for themselves what they want to eat, especially when it comes to splurging on vacation. As for kids, that's up to their parents to decide.

You missed my point. There are currently and always will be plenty of fried foods, sweets and other indulgence foods at Disneyland. In order to make more healthy options on the menu they must eliminate others, otherwise the kitchens would not be able to handle the huge variety of foods. How many people just order right off the menu without really paying attention to the choices? Currently you have to really search for the healthy choices, but with the changes they will be more readily available and therefore easier for many people to order them. My husband for example will just order the standard kids meal for our children and not pay attention to what it comes with. If the standard is carrots or fruit instead of fries, then that is what he will order and our kids are fine with that. Parents still have the choice to order fries, so I don't see where the controversy is. Disney will give fruit/vegtables and water as standard allow FREE substitutions of fries and soda. The same applies to adult meals. You don't have to order the healthy choices. There are plenty of other choices. The churros and monte cristo sandwichs aren't going anywhere.

Can I just ask that you take a look at the children's menus for WDW for counter service and table service. Most CS have limited their children's menu to about two items per "restaurant". The three choices for dinner along with the "alternative choices" aren't very appealing either. Just scan a few from just the Magic Kingdom like Pecos Bill's and maybe Pinnochio's Village Haus. Those are just examples, feel free to check out all the choices. The choices are pretty limited and if you are on an extended stay in WDW, it can become rather monotonous.

It's not a matter of getting fries and soda, it's a matter of having very little "overall" choice in the menus.

Last time I checked we were talking about Disneyland. Comparing the two parks doesn't work.

And before anyone says it, yes I understand the concern is that the same menus will be transfered to Disneyland.

Sorry for getting the two issues confused. I've been properly chastised.

Yeah, that's if you believe the whole idea of "social responsibility". I don't, not where it comes to food. Having lap restraints so that people don't die on their property is totally different from people being able to eat a food that may or may not hurt them at some point, depending on if that's how they normally eat or if it's a splurge. Lap restraints are safety, and people shouldn't have a choice about that, but food should be entirely up to you. Disney doesn't know how you eat when you're not at their park.

I think part of this may have to do with differing political philosophies....

I just wanted to say I totally agree with this and with your last post too. Aaaack, food police! I think I like my freedom way too much to think that will ever be a good idea. I like options...most people do I would say.

OK I give up. Obviously most of you are reading much more into the switch towards healthier food than I am.

Hahaha, you're right, we're probably making too much of a deal about it. :lmao: I'm sure as long as most of the favorites stay the same we'll all adjust! :teeth: Probably just pushed a button with some of us! It's still the happiest place on earth :wizard: ...and honestly all I really care about is please leave the mickey ice creams and dole whips alone! :cheer2: :goodvibes

Thanks Shelly, sounds good to me! Although the big cinnamon rolls are good too....;)

I don't think we are making too big a deal about it. And how do you know that the Mickey ice creams or the Dole Whips or the big cinnamon rolls won't be next?

Whaaaaaaaaa Then I'll really be crying! :) Let's hope they have more sense than that! :)

And just for the record, I still don't like people trying to control other people's decisions about their own lives but like I said before will be grateful if I have a few more healthy options as well because seriously, don't you just get sick of fries after a few days? (We're more of the CS type of people because we don't get to to Disney very often and don't want to spend too much time eating.)

Wow, I'm surprised they did that. It's vacation, I can eat healthy at home. Yes if I ate Strawberry Shortcake every day it would be unhealthy but once on a DL trip? I doubt even a doctor would tell you that it was unhealthy and wrong to enjoy a few treats on vacation.

I have no problem with offering healthier items, in fact I'm in favor of it. But the treats shouldn't be taken away. People should be able to choose for themselves what they want to eat. That shouldn't be up to anyone else. What happened to having some freedoms in what we choose for ourselves?

I'm personally not there to buy carrots or apples, I buy those at the grocery store. So I'll pass and spend my money on a treat elsewhere outside of the park then.
