My husband and I are going to Disneyland for the first time. We are both 50. No kids with us. We are coming from the DC area. We have never been to CA. The reason we choose this trip is: we got bumped going to TX to visit are two sons (got free tickets),we want to go far away and someplace we had never been, and hey look at our age we grew up hoping that someday we could see Disneyland. We will be leaving on Aug. 8 and staying for 6 days. We have a 3-day hopper pass and are going to spend one day at Universal Studios. Can we get to even ride in 3 days? Where is the best place to eat inside and outside the park? We will be arriving in the early afternoon on the 8th, beside Downtown Disney is there anything else that we can walk to? Thanks in advance for your advice.

If you move fast you should be able to di every ride. I would do one morning at Disneyland and go directly to Fantasyland. You can do Peter Pan, The Matterhorn, Alice in Wonderland, Mr Toad, Snow White and Pinnocho all in about 40 minutes and then get fast passes for other rides. The other morning Get fast pass for Indy and go ride Space mountain and then back to Indy and get a Fast Pass for Splash.
You can easily do all of DCA in one day.
Good places to eat in Disneyland are The Blue Bayou and the Plaza Inn. The only two places I would skip would be Tomorroland terrace and The Village House.
At DCA I love Avalone Cove, not so much for the character meals as I like the interior of the restaurant and the food is good.
Good places to eat at the Disney hotels are Napa Rose and Storytellers Cafe at the Grand Californian.
Hook's Point, Goofy's Kitchen and Granvilles Steakhouse at the Disneyland hotel.
I have heard great things about Yamabuki at the Paradise Pier Hotel.
I have yet to eat in downtown Disney.
There isn't much to walk to from the Disneyland area.

We just got back from 3 days at the parks and found that we had plenty of time to do all that we wanted (2 adults, also no kids) We had a Thurs, Fri, and Sat (which was obviously the busiest day). We hit DL in the morning since it opens at 8, then headed over to CA in the afternoons. We had a great time at CA, in fact. Less crowds, beautiful theming- and Soaring over CA is soooo fantastic. We even took time for some sit-down meals (Blue Bayou, The Storyteller's Cafe- great buffet, and Y Arriba Y Arriba- great tapas) and a wine tasting at the Mondavi place. Make good use of the fast-passes, see smaller attractions inbetween, and you should have plenty of time.
