Disneyland Food Favorites?

I am on a gluten free diet with 98% no soy and no egg, limited and preferably no dairy and chocolate. Have to watch the sugar as I tend to swing into spectrumland, napland, or whoohoopartyonland.

I miss candy that I used to get at marcelines and Main Street and DCA and everywhere. I miss candy corn, jelly belly, candy apples, nougats, and so much more. I miss the days when I could eat fig newtons, sugar wafers, shortbread, cupcakes, and brownies. I spent 4 days in the park with the divas on occassion and only bought caramel corn, popcorn, and a beach towel and a mug. I have to watch sugar as I know that too much is not good for me and my diet plus having mother, her sister, half sister, brother, cousin, and cousin's son all have diabetes. I WANT IT ALL.

DH, DSil and I all love Bengal BBQ for a snack. Its all skewers cooked on a grill. The bacon wrapped asparagus is delicious! I also like the various meat ones. I can't remember all the different names. One is spicy (makes my lips numb!).

FRITTERS!!! I love them so much! I want to go back just so I can eat more of them...

Oh and I also adore corn dogs, but seriously, FRITTERS!!!!

My all-time favorite snack is the deep-fried goodness of corndogs from the red cart on Main Street...DCA just doesn't seem to measure up to me for some reason ;) .

Love the pretzels in all the different flavors. Seems they've moved to a system where each cart has a different "special" flavor in addition to the Mickey shaped pretzel. That's a bit of a hassle as the wife likes the cream cheese (Tomorrowland) and I like the Jalapeno cheese (Frontierland).

Dunno why, but all the tourists seem to rave about the turkey legs. I think WDW does that better, though.

Oh, man, I like corn dogs from state fairs, but the one from Corn Dog Castle in DCA had them all beat. The batter tasted like a really good corn muffin... just so yummy and HUGE! here's a pic:

Also, there seems to be a love/hate thing on these boards about the Monte Cristo sandwich, available at Cafe Orleans or at Blue Bayou (lunch menu only, there). I half wanted to try one, half scared of anything so obviously really BAD for you. Some people swear they're the best thing on earth, others say they're disgusting. So I trepidatiously tried one at Cafe Orleans, and some of their Pommes Frites, too (delicious french fries sprinkled with parmesan and herbs). I gotta admit, I really like it, it was so yummy... but then, it was very hot, fresh and melty when we got it. It's very rich, so even though DD13 and I shared the food, we didn't finish any of it, but I was glad we tried it. Yum! Here's that deep fried evil goodness:

Just a correction, there is a Goofy's Kitchen at DL, it's in the DLH. I think Fairycat may have been referring Chef Mickey....I think that's what it's called, I've never been to WDW so I'm not sure. :)

I agree with mechurchlady, TPG is soooooooo good!!!!!! I get the BBQ chicken sandwich most times, DBF had the Bleu Cheese burger and YUM!!! It was soooooooo good! :)

Nope I am a huge dip with my preggo brain and meant Goofy's candy shop or any place to make your own candy apples and such. I will go back and fix my post so the OP knows what the heck I am talking about :rotfl:

Love that place! Only we go there for a meal. I like one Banyan Beef skewer- the slightly spicey one, and one veg skewer and eat them together. That fills me up. Of course, I will also go have a waffle cone and call it lunch so I guess at DLR snacks and meals are really all the same thing to me! :rotfl:

OK... this thread is making me SO EXCITED to visit!!!! :yay: I can't explain how happy I am to hear that the spicy cheese pretzel is alive and well at Disneyland!!!!!
:yay: :dance3: :yay:

On my MUST EAT list so far:

Spicy Cheese Stuffed Pretzel (Thanks for the tip - Frontierland right?)
Blue Bayou (Birthday Dinner or Lunch)
Corn DOG (I could live on Corn dogs)
Apple Pie Carmel Apple (Wow... sounds amazing)
Monte Cristo (I've had this before but not at DL and LOVE them! EXTRA fruit preserves please!!!)
Tiger Tales (Sounds interesting)
Fruit
Carmel Corn

What is a Fritter? Like a fruit pie fried thing?

And I'll probably NOT try the Beignets being so close to the real thing here!!! Too much other stuff to try that I can't get at home!!!

Our faves - kettle corn in DTD, Fritters with brownie sauce, Taste Pilot's grill and their yummy fries with chili, cheese, onions, and tomatoes. Oh, and can't forget - corn dogs in DCA. popcorn::

Our 'must eat' things are 1) chicken dinner at Plaza Inn, 2) dole whips, 3) the cool flavored softserve ice cream in DCA - you just wanna try them all! OH ... and the giant cookies at the sweet shop in Pooh Corner! My kids go gaga over those!

I think she was referring to there not being a Goofy's Candy Shop. So no custom apples, just the ones they make.

Oh, she did say Goofy's Kitchen so that's why I was assuming she meant the restaurant and not the candy shop. :)

I like Woohoopartyland......LOL I have to be careful too tho, my family has diabetics and hypoglycemics all over the place....LOL I was good last weekend and didn't buy anything too sweet, no apple pie caramel apple, no Tigger Tails, nothing...... :( Now I'm sad. LOL

:) I didn't even think about Goofy's Candy Shop, I've never been to WDW so I didn't even know it was a real place. LOL I just thought that's what packaging they used for their candy. LOL

Do you mean the soft serve at Catch A Flave? I've never had any of that......

It is swirled ice cream like you see at shops that have vanilla and chocolate. It is gluten free and to die for. They do soft serve vanilla for floats as well. It is like having two flavours and tormenting your brain as you taste first one flavour then another. If you are adventurous then clean out a popcorn container and dump 5 different cups into the container for the ultimate ice cream experience and headache.:rotfl:

Swirl Ice Cream is served by the bucket at the Grand Funk House of Blues.

Oh wow!!! That sounds weird and yummy at the same time.....where do you get it?

they inject this 'flavor ribbon' into the softserve and they have a long list of flavors to choose from. We haven't hit one we didn't like yet! Last trip, I had an orange one and it was SO yummy! I was disappointed when it was gone! DS had a rootbeer float and is planning to get yet another next trip. I think I'll try cherry next.

While I would definitely say the food is better on average at Disneyland than at WDW, I can't honestly say much of it is "good" by my standards. At least at Disneyland I wasn't irritated by paying a lot of money for the food. I understand I'm in a theme park and the food is going to be expensive, so I don't mind as long as the food is at least palatable. None of the food we had in WDW in January (a seven day stay) would qualify except for the popcorn and turkey legs.

That being said, we had two good meals at Disneyland this week. We were there Monday-Wednesday.

Taste Pilots Grill: Whoah! What the heck happened here? Its like somebody put an actual decent burger joint in a theme park! There must be some mistake. Seriously, I've had burgers at Croc's Bits & Bites, Village Haus and here. Oh and Disneyland Hotel room service. I don't have a clue how the food ops work at DLR, but they need to fire whoever runs those other places and put the person who runs Taste Pilots grill in charge. I had the delicious Chase Pilots Cheddar Burger or whatever it was called, and my wife had the Bleu Yonder burger. My daughter had the adorable little miniburgers on the Mickey plate. Everything was delicious, and I don't mean by theme park standards, I mean by eating out standards. Yes, I could do better at home, but I'd take these burgers over burgers anywhere else. And the criss-cut fries, which I don't usually care for, were yummy as well.

Carnation Cafe breakfast: This was better than Denny's, so I was happy. The servers were very friendly as well, which is a plus, and they actually got a 15% tip out of me, which rarely happens. Quick, good food.

Other than those two, I love the Wetzel pretzels and the Churros, and my wife and kids love the turkey legs.

My two "must" snacks are:

1. Frozen banana
2. Churro (preferably at night - I don't know why, but I love a churro in the evening)

I will also add that all the snacks at Pooh's Corner have been delicious!

The last visit I tried one of the prepackaged chocolate chip cookies (I can't remember exactly what it was called) from Main Street. It had been voted "best chocolate chip cookie" award (by an outside company). It was sooooo good. Huge chunks of chocolate and the actual cookie part tasted almost like cookie dough, but with the luxury of it being cooked, so no illness :thumbsup2 . I noticed there was also a white chocolate raspberry cookie which I am definitely planning on trying next time.

Oh - yes, also the Disney taffy was really good!

OK - need sweets immediately!!!! :upsidedow

Ok, I know not everyone can do this, but I did have to post because these became a favorite during our last time. If you can do the Dessert box seating at Fantasmic, the pre packaged Desserts they serve were terrific. Between the 3 of us, we probably only ate 1 1/2 of the servings and saved the other 1 1/2 in the hotel room which we ate over the next couple of days.

Little cheese cakes, Lemon/lime tarts, Macaroons, Cheese, Fruit, Truffles, and a few other items that I have no idea what they were , but they were good.

Tiger Tales (Sounds interesting)

What is a Fritter? Like a fruit pie fried thing?

And I'll probably NOT try the Beignets being so close to the real thing here!!! Too much other stuff to try that I can't get at home!!!

Watch out! There are Tiger Tails at the Bengal BBQ, and that's a breadstick sort of thing. The Tigger Tail is a sweet treat, at Pooh's Corner, and it's marshmallows covered in orange stuff with chocolate to look like Tigger's tail.

The fritter has no fruit in it, it's sweet dough deep fried. Sort of beignet-like, but they taste different. I don't know about the ones at the walk-up at French Market, but the ones at Royal Street Veranda are good (and different from the beignets at CO or Jazz Kitchen Express (the latter = bleah, the former = yum, good, but yes, if I lived near Cafe du Monde I would probably skip it too, HOWEVER, they are Mickey shaped at CO!)) and have an apple sort of dipping sauce that's also good.
