So my parents decided to take us ( and our kids ) to California next year! I informed my mother that *for me* the only requirement if I go to California is that I NEED to visit DisneyLand.

First I get the "Why would you want to? It's not big like Walt Disney World you know" ... No, she doesn't get it, but gave in to my resolve to go. Hey, they can go do something else if they aren't interested. I haven't been since I was 3 and I can't wait!

I get the same response when I mention that I want to go and visit. But I would love to visit all the Disney's. We are planning on going in about 3 years. We drive to WDW and were going to drive to DL after our wedding in Jan. but I had nobody to take care of my daughter so we thought we would wait until she was 16 and then she would have her license to drive to school etc.

Enjoy your time at DL and nevermind all the negative chatter or questions of why you want to visit.

Well my mother owns DVC, she does "get" Disney to a degree... It's just that in her mind, why go to DL when you could go to WDW. Or more specifically, why waste time at any OTHER Disney resort when abroad when you'll always have WDW to go back to. My father once told me he'd disown me if I ever visited Paris and went ot DisneyLand Paris... He was kidding of course... at least I hope so :rotfl:

Going to DL is a whole different experience. It's nice to be able to visit other sites.

Im sure your father was kidding lol :lmao:

I always get questioned about why I spend my money going to WDW and why not to Cuba or Dominican etc. But I don't like the beach, I don't drink and Mickey and friends are not there...

DL is definitely a whole different experience. It's neat to compare the two. It's nice how it's not as spread out as WDW. For me, I'd been too bitten by the WDW bug so it wasn't "the same" but it's definitely worth a visit for any Disney fan. California is so absolutely beautiful. Make sure you drive the PCH & spend some time on the coast. We did part of our stay in Anaheim but the other part in San Diego and, let me tell you, I was ready to MOVE to San Diego by the end of our vacation!

Actually, that's the plan. Except we're going north instead of south. We'll only be spending two days at DL ( and I had to fight for even THAT ), a couple of days in LA ( we'll do Universal Hollywood and actually tour Hollywood, maybe warner Brothers Studios tour too ). then up route 1 to San Francisco.

We didn't do Universal but did Hollywood, drove out Sunset past UCLA to Santa Monica. I thought the geography of Southern California was amazing-huge rolling hills so close to the ocean. I thought it was really neat.

Try to avoid the weekends at DL, the crowds were crazy when we were there a couple of years ago.

And

DL Paris was awesome in June. Even though it rained we had a blast comparing it with DL and WDW. IMHO Space Mountain and Thunder Mountain were way better, and the overall feel of the park was awesome.

We did that this summer. Went to Disneyland. Very different from WDW that is for sure. But was nice to see at least once.

Did a Hollywood tour , a famous house tour. The bus tour took us to the Kodak Theater, Chinese Theater, San Monica pier and Venice beach. That was neat.

Went to Universal but it was so crowded all the wait times got to over 80 minutes by mid morning. We were glad we did the back stage tour first. It is a must and the 3D King Kong with it is awsome.

Loved San Francisco. It was my favourite place we went. We camped so we stayed in Petulama for a few days and took a bus tour over. Beautiful and the hills are so cool we did the trolley ride down to the pier. We wanted to do Alactraz but tickets were sold out while we were there. Should have bought them before we left home.

Glad you held your ground on going to Disneyland. :thumbsup2
