First Post!!

Hello everyone. My family and I are heading to the Fort in April for our first trip to WDW. We are from California and love vacationing in our travel trailer. For our stay at the Fort we'll be renting a trailer and golf cart. All of us are beyond excited. Our 'home' park is Disneyland, so this will be a new adventure for us.

Our family consists of myself, DH, DS (6) and DD (8). I have to say this is the first time my husband has been looking forward to a Disney trip and I have the Fort to thank for that. When I showed him pictures and videos of Fort Wilderness and all the amenities, he asked me to rent the trailer and book a site. Yeah!

I do want to thank all of you who post on this forum. I have been trolling for a bit, but decided to come out of the shadows to ask a few questions.

Since DH is excited about this trip, I'm trying to get as much information as I can about the special activities the Fort offers. First one (and most important to him & the kids) is fishing. I understand from previous posts that it's strictly catch and release and you cannot fish from the beach, any public areas or the docks. I have the following questions:

1. For all of the fishermen out there, which spot would you recommend?
2. We will most likely be buying bait onsite (vs. Walmart, etc.). Does anyone know the current prices for bait sold onsite? Also, would you know the rental prices for rods? Prices could change by the time we get there in April, but I just wanted to have an idea of the cost.
3. Should DH bring some lures with him as well, or is just regular bait enough.

I have looked at the fishing excursions that are offered, but we won't have enough in the budget to do that this trip.

Sorry for all of the questions! Thank you in advance for your help. If there is another thread that explains all of this, just let me know. I did a search and found some threads, but they were from a few years ago.

:welcome: I can't offer any insight into your fishing questions, but I can assure you that camping at the Fort is the greatest!

We do have some 'fishermen' on here and they will be around directly to answer all your fishing questions! :wave2:

Welcome !
Ya'll are gonna freak when ya get to WDW !! There is a absolute total difference between the World and the Land.

Your husband is good people,,I can tell from your post.
Okay, here's the run down. Yes, buy your bait from Wally Weird,, not sure of the bait prices at the Fort but I'm gonna guess upwards of about $8.oo for a dozen worms,,and believe me, there's nutt'n magic about them.
There fish at Disney hit on everything, I bring a small tackle box with me with a nice assortment of lures. As I am a impatient angler, if I don't catch real soon, I'll change up my lure/bait or move down stream a little.
Remember, "Catch & Release" ONLY at Disney. You don't need a fish license to fish cause Disney is private property :thumbsup2.
Do not fish from any public areas, beaches, or docks.
You can fish from any pond, canals, or the lake.
I like to fish the lake behind 300 loop where the canal meets with the lake,,but don't take the canals for granted, they hold some good fish.
And lastly, you have to post pictures of your catch so I can approve them :thumbsup2:thumbsup2 (it's the law).

Happy fishing ya'll.

Thank you for the information! I'll have him pack some lures just in case. If he gets his way, we'll need to pay the extra baggage fee so he can check a suitcase which contains just his fishing gear....which won't be an issue with me if he's happy. :)

We just decided to rent a car, so a trip offsite to get bait won't be a problem. I'll make a note of the recommended location.

There will be pictures of our catch posted for sure. Hopefully we can get some on the line!
