Disneyland DVC question

This morning at 8 am EST I tried logging in to book a 2 bedroom at Grand Californian as my 7 month window opened today. Right away it was gone! A random Tuesday in the middle of May sold out immediately? And yesterday the Monday showed sold out but now that popped back open and Tuesday is sold out. Is that normal?
WHAT WOULD YOU DO? I see a 2 bedroom open only for the first 2 days of my trip available at the new Villas at DL hotel. Should I book that and waitlist last 2 nights at VDH or waitlist all 4 nights at GC or book 2 at VDH and just waitlist the last 2 nights I want at GC for a split stay?
HELP PLEASE! I tried calling DVC member services to ask for help but recording says super busy and call back later if you don't have a reservation in the next 7 days or something.

Since you are at 7 months, and owners have already been booking, the number of rooms could be as low as one and lots of others wanting it too

If you are seeing days pop back up though, it means other people who are not owners are trying to walk in hopes of getting their real dates. So, it’s possible that will happen for your dates as well.

I would probably grab what you can at VDH and keep trying because if it is only walkers and not ones who really want those dates, then you will be able to snag.

Grand Cal is by far the smallest resort in all of DVC & they are going through a remodel next year which is reducing inventory further.

This is why the Grand Cal points are the most expensive.

The only real way to build a reservation at 7 months at Grand Cal is to get the days individually booked and hope you can eventually build your trip in its entirety.

I was successful doing that last year for a trip this January.

Also VGC seasonal demand is really different from WDW and yeah, May is harder to get. Feb-April is the sweet spot, to the extent that there is one (e.g. there may be 5 rooms available for the 7 month window instead of 2)
