Disneyland. do i need a car

Just curious....do you really want to experience the train? I think it sounds like a fun idea, but I hope your reasoning is not that it will save you money.

Well, it's not necessarily to save money, but I did think renting in just San Diego would be cheaper than renting in Anaheim and returning to San Diego. I was also thinking that I always hear the traffic in LA is horrible and thought it would be a less stressful trip for everyone.

Nah....nothing you can't manage. However, did not know you were planning on leaving from San Diego. You might want to do some checking on the rental car thing. Sometimes, there are charges for dropping off at a different location, but San Diego has enough traffic back and forth from LA that it might not be that big of a deal.

Bring a GPS unit with you and you will be fine. No different than I-80 during rush hour going to Papillion :thumbsup2

San Diegans have posted before in the DL forum that it's easy to visit DL from SD via the train. The station in Anaheim is only a mile east of Disneyland, adjacent to Angel Stadium, around a $10, quick taxi ride from most resort-area hotels.

My question would be how easy is it to rent a car once you get to San Diego. i.e. Can you rent a car at the Amtrak station? That I don't know. This is a legacy TripAdvisor thread discussing how to get a rental car from the downtown SD Amtrak station. It sounds like you would either need to take a short taxi ride to a downtown rental facility, or have a rental car meet you at the station.

we are a family of 4..probably 3-4 pieces of luggage. For a full size or mini van..cheapest i'm seeing anywhere is $498 for the 8 days.

sorry to post again. i did some more checking..i did find a ford escape...the 8 days..for $307. I'll do that. Only $100 more and i get the car 5 more days.

It's not a full size...and luggage will be tight...but it will work. It's what i own at home..just never crammed that much luggage in!

No.

One of the things I love about Disney is that I can show up for my vacation and not have to drive for a week. (WDW or DL).

That being said we did use our car at WDW last time, based on some forum advice. I kind of preferred the busses.
