Disneyland Divas working out, getting healthy, and looking fine in '09!!

I keep forgetting to check in here.
I didn't lose or gain, I just maintained.
We have baseball everynight. I need to find better things to eat for dinner.
I haven't done a lot of exercise, because of my knee.
I have surgery on the 10th so after that heals it should be a lot easier to exercise.

Thanks, my dh is trying to find a sitter so we can go to the gym together tonight. The child care at the gym is great but won't take kids under a year old and my daughter is not quite 11 months old....soon, though. Hopefully by the time she turns a year old I will be ready to embark on a full work out routine and not just walking on the treadmill. My husband is a weight lifter and I know he would like to "train" me on weights.

And to top everything off, they brought in cake and ice cream to work today. I put some gum in my mouth before entering that room to join in the celebration to make sure I wouldn't grab for anything...it worked. Even with the guys encouraging me to "have some cake". I am pretty proud of that...now to determine what I want for dinner...our cupboards are pretty bare so I don't know what I can throw together. Hmmm.

Sarah

Congrats on foregoing the cake. :thumbsup2
Hope the gym and dinner went well.

Welcome back! :cheer2:
Maintaining is better than gaining.
Good luck with the surgery and finding good things to eat.

I'm TIRED. Just ran 2 hours and 15 minutes on hilly trails. It was hard. And I feel beat up but hopefully will feel better soon. Gonna get some food in my body and maybe an ice bath. That's my last long run before taper.

And I earned FIFTEEN activity points on that run. I will use that today as I'm going out to lunch with mom for Mother's Day.

Have a great Saturday everyone!

Hi Ladies!

So I made it three days in a row without sugar! :cheer2:
I'm hoping today will be easier as my body adjusts to sugar free living (though I do intend to reintroduce small bits back into my life eventually)

The results?
Well I got on the scale bright and early this morning and weighed 138.5 - which is down 4 lbs. from last Friday before DL trip.

I've also decided to measure my waistline, as that is what I'm really trying to get smaller with this no sugar plan.

DONNA: So fun that you spent the day at Disneyland! As for fried foods...it happens. I must say I DO love those corn dogs, which is about the only friend food I really like (save for french fries once in awhile). Hope that your digestive system handled it OK.

As for my foot, there is nothing that happened. It was just the walking at Disneyland that really irritated it. Now that I'm home, it's ok. And funny that my run didn't bother it. Running and walking seem to use different muscles or muscles in a different way.

:cheer2: Yea on the results from no sugar! Your plan is solid. Once you get off it, you are able to introduce it back in, in small amounts. And the great thing is that you'll be in control.

The fried experiment was interesting, because it wasn't even something I wanted. I blew up 2 lb the next day and today I'm back down but still a pound away from my low of last Tuesday.

I went to the gym today and did 50 minutes on the elliptical. I've up'd it to level 2, btw, for the last week. Then I did about 15 minutes of upper body machines and weights.

Wow, you should be proud! That is wonderful. Also, great to hear your husband is a weight lifter. That's going to be perfect once your baby is a year and you can use the gym's babysitter.

Wow.... I can't even imagine this. Go Jen. :yay:
What's taper?

Have a great Saturday night!

Taper=Runners usually cut back mileage (or taper) one day to
three weeks (depending on race distance) before a big race. Tapering
helps muscles rest so that they are ready for peak performance on race
day.

I'm here! I'm here!

Wow....the past 2 weeks have been soooo bad!

Work is worse than usual, I had to prepare for an accreditation visit that was stressful but its over and went well.

I started up 2 grad school classes that are kicking my butt.

There are problems with the hospitals cooling system. not good in 100+ degree vegas...so I keep getting called in because the hospital goes on "internal disaster".

and the worst..we found out 2 days ago my father in law died. paul is having a hard time. and i'm worried about him of course.

so i'm not trying to be full of excuses but I truthfully am lately.

For my check in.....stress is getting to me. I haven't gained, but have been stuck at the same darn weight for the past 2 weeks. hard to accept because its the first time I haven't lost. but I'm trying to stay focused. this week was supposed to be week 3 of the couch to 5k, and I haven't been able to do it. I plan on getting back into the routine tomorrow. I've stuck to eating right, but I'm sure the lack of exercise and stress are doing a number on me.

glad you are all making progress!! jen you amaze me with your runs.

congrats all on maintaining and losing. and where is beth?? we lost her again???

I'm sure she'll be back. Esp now that you are!
Very sorry to hear about your father in law. That is always so tough. And what a time for you, with the hospital and all. Congrats on not gaining during this stressful time!

I am grateful to your past post of what you did to lose. I'm using the muscle milk leans and the Balance bars when real food isn't around.

Looking forward to seeing you soon!

Jen, thanks for the explaination.

Anyone here have the Wii? The new Sports Active Personal Trainer comes out Tuesday with a band so it can track your leg movements and a resistence band. At Best Buy and Toys R Us it comes with a $10 gift card (to offset the 59.99 price - ouch).

I woke up with my feet sore from yesterday's workout but will head back there later today.

I'm being so bad, I haven't even come close to a workout routine and I'm trying to eat healthier. I guess you can call being a busy body around my home trying to sort and de-pack rat myself increasing the activity at least. My lifestyle is by far less sedentary than it used to be, which has to stand for something. At this point, I'm trying to hold onto my sanity. For those of you who don't know, I'm getting ready to take a gigantic leap and move away from my family in Indiana to California for grad school. I'm so close to my parents and this is going to be a big step for me. *sigh* Baby steps. I can do it! :thumbsup2

I'm so sorry that you've had such a challenging couple of weeks. Congrats on maintaining. My condolences to your DH and family.

Good luck getting back on the exercise routine. It does help with both stress and weight loss, so worth the effort to get it back in the schedule.

I think you deserve a nice massage or something as well. :goodvibes

We have a Wii, but it's only used for Start Wars lego games.

I tried that OUtdoor Adventure over the holidays and it gave me weird muscle strains. It was hard to step on the mat just right. I'm a little reluctant to do exercises on it - seems kind of bad form. But that was just that one game. I guess I need to learn more on this.

SARAH and VICKI: How is WW going? I didn't watch what I ate yesterday after my run where I earned 15 activity points. Ate a personal pizza for lunch with mom and then didn't have dinner but did have two cocktails at date night with DH. Today didn't seem like I had much -- bowl of Total, half a grilled cheese sandwich, ham sandwich on high fiber bread and a protein bar. Well, I added it all up and I've used my whole 35 point weekly allotment plus 2 of my 16 activity points in one weekend. Geez! :sad2: I guess now I know why I haven't been losing weight. All these "little" things add up. Well, I'll get more "on program" tomorrow. And with the exercise, hopefully will all even out. Got to go earn some more activity points.

Hope your points went better this weekend then mine.

Here is how my last week went:
Gym on Monday, Friday and today (Sunday)
Eating was so-so on some days and down right bad on others. I'm going to weigh myself tomorrow (Monday) morning to see where I stand.

I'm very proud of myself that I went to the gym on a Sunday though.

It's a new week and so far so good on the eating front. This WW Simply Filling technique takes a bit getting used to, but I'm going to try to stick to it for awhile. At least it isn't as hard core as Atkins.

Planning on a 45 minute run today. Yesterday was a recovery day.

I've been toying with the idea of going to the WDW marathon Jan 2010. Anyone planning on heading to Orlando marathon weekend, Jan 2010? Not sure if I can make this happen, but it's calling me...:rolleyes1

Day two of exercise, Yay!
I've discovered that running across the pool is harder and more tiring than swimming across. I really feel it in my thighs and calves :goodvibes I'm aiming to complete at least 30 minutes of exercise each day :thumbsup2 Eating is a bit harder but since I can't eat out anymore (unless my parents give me cash) I will have to plan my eating so I can prepare food the night before. Thankfully I'm only out of the house on TTH.

3 weeks until graduation and I want to be a size smaller (20). I have to start looking for a dress or something nice.

Just checking in. I have been doing pretty well so far. I am working a double at work today and finding food in my house that would work and be the proper points was a bit difficult but I was able to do it. I am hoping it will keep me satisfied through midnight! This is day 5 for me. We had my sons birthday party yesterday. It was a beautiful day and we had the party at the park. I only had a medium size piece of cake and a small scoop of ice cream. I had to guess on the points but I basically just let that be my flex points for the week and called it good. I KNOW it wasn't more than 35 points so it's fine. My weigh in will be on wednesday. I think I will just post whether I had a loss or gain instead of the amount. Hope everyone is doing well....way to go Cristabel on the excersize...that is something I need to work on.

Sarah

So I had packed well and then at 10 when I went to get my last bit of food I had packed, I discovered that the food had gone bad and I just hadn't realized it when I packed this morning. Not too big a deal but I need to get in 5 points when I get home instead of the 1 I was planning for. I have kept fairly satisfied today...no growling hunger pains. Eating every 2 hours has helped and I have had 96 ozs of water today so I am plenty hydrated.

Cristabel...I haven't read back so don't know if I need to congratulate you or tell you not to worry and you'll do better next week.:confused3

Good job! :thumbsup2

I ate out with friends last night and we all had prix fixe dinners that included dessert. I do not eat sugar but there it was and no one else wanted it because they had one of their own. Afterwards, (like an hour later) I didn't feel great so I went to bed early. Now I must implant this into my memory - sugar = feeling sluggish and sleepy!

I'm trying to just get down to where I was last week, forget about losing anything more. I think I will hit it by tomorrow, but maybe not.

Today I did 45 min of aerobics class and then 45 min of elliptical. I watched the numbers and saw that I did a little over three miles in that time, so I was doing a 15 min mile! (okay, not quite the same as walking on real ground, but better than a kick in the teeth)

Wishing you all an active day tomorrow!

So how long have you been without sugar? I'm pushing on, but I must say that I miss it. Maybe it's getting better from a physiological point of view, but I still have a real psychological pull -- sugar has always been my treat and I love it!

Good job with all that cardio. And congrats on the 15 min mile!

I tried to go out running yesterday, but my ankles were sore, so I decided to walk home and take another recovery day. Would rather play it safe that sorry with the race just three weeks away.

I did OK with eating yesterday. I did have a protein bar, but it was low in sugar. I'm afraid I may be eating too much of this "simply filling" food that I don't have to count points for...we'll see. If I don't lose any weight this week, I might have to watch portions more carefully. Right now I'm not watching them at all, it it's the right food.

And for the QUOTE OF THE DAY
Be of good cheer. Do not think of today's failures, but of success that may come tomorrow. You have set yourselves a difficult task, but you will succeed if you persevere; and you will have a joy in overcoming obstacles—a delight in climbing rugged paths which you would perhaps never know if you did not sometimes slip backward, if the road were always smooth and pleasant. Remember, no effort that we make to attain something beautiful is ever lost.
~ Helen Keller.

My husband has found someone to watch our children tonight so that we can go to the gym together. He worked out this morning and is going to work on "training" me tonight. I am a bit worried:eek: He is a very buff man that did 900 lbs 3 times on the leg press the other day!

Sarah, hopefully he will be careful with you but just in case, these things are helpful - do a little stretching before you work out. Try to warm up on a bike or treadmill or elliptical before you work with weights too.

Always start out with lesser weight. What may feel okay on rep one may be too much for you by rep eight. Protect your back.

As long as the first session is a baby one, mostly learning the motions, then you won't injure yourself. If he has not trained a woman recently (and I guess we're hoping not, huh?), you might have to remind him to go easy on you.

Have a wonderful workout.

Gosh, that quote made my eyes all watery! I don't know how long it's been. And I'm counting craving sugar or something sweet. There might be some hidden sugar in my Balance bars, but the key is I don't crave sugar.

Years ago I did Lindora and on their system they test your urine so you'll know right away if you had sugar or bad carbs the previous day. Still, some of their own products had sugar but somehow it was balanced with enough protein. So I think that's why small amounts of sugar in protein bars do not set off cravings and throw you into danger.

I stopped the nighttime Skinny Cows a while ago. They were great when I needed them earlier in this journey (I think they're the best lc frozen products in the market), but I got to the point where I needed to kick it up a notch in order to lose.

Now that it's summer, try your favorite fruits for a sweet treat. Mangoes, tangerines, watermelon, peaches.... Oh, my bit tip is freeze a few grapes in a ziplock bag. When you want something sweet, pull out one or two.

This AM I am back down to the new low that I had last week. Whew. Now this week my goal is to lose a pound.

A friend who lost weight permanently said something to me that made sense. She said, "You have to think of food not as entertainment. Just nourishment."

The work out went well. He thought I could do more than I could actually do so I felt kind of pitaful, but I talked to him about it and he said that he had no clue where I would be and the first work out is about finding out where I am with different muscles and then planning a lifting program around that. We did the precor machine and it was ok once I got the hang of it. I am used to the treadmill so it was a very different motion.

My WW meeting is tonight and I will find out how I did on this first week. I am afraid to be hopeful. I don't want to be dissappointed. I know I did really well points wise. I had way more dairy thanks to the on line tracker that shows you how much of each group you need a day. It made me think more about getting in the servings of lean meat, dairy, vitamin, etc. I have been drinking lots of water and cutting out my Caffine Free Diet Pepsi to one or none a day. I am hoping that I am mature enough at this point to recognize the fact that this is a journey and no matter what the scale says that to win is to continue the journey.

Sarah

Yesterday was Day 3 of consecutively going to the gym.

Here's what I've been doing at the pool:
Run 2 laps (1 lap= 50m/yards) there have been varying answers as to whether the pool at L.A. Fitness is in yards or meters. Anyone have an idea?
Swim 2 laps (alternating strokes: freestyle, breast, and butterfly) I positively suck at Butterfly and I'm pretty sure I'm not doing it 100% correctly

I did that for 45 minutes and I am SO sore but happy :goodvibes

Jen, this an idea for you! To take a break from running on the hard ground you should try using ankle weights and run in the pool. The resistance makes it so tiring! Just an idea!
