Disneyland die hards take on WDW! A first timer/college grad/ proud mommy...FUN!

Hi,

Thank you very much for your report so far! I love the pictures and your text let all readers be a part of your trip. Hope of a continue soon!

Bye
Dana

Awesome TR. I am loving it. I wish I had some adult friends who would want to go with me. I love going as a family, but I would love to go with no restrictions some day.
How cool that you got to be in the parade. That is a dream of mine. But we never make ropedrop. My DD likes to sleep in, and if I get her up too ealry she is not very pleasant. Someday it wil lall cahnge though!
Can't wait to read more

We got back to DHS about an hour before the second showing of Fantasmic. The line was pretty long but we got great seats. Fantasmic is my all-time favorite show at Disney and I really enjoy it at DHS because of the arena that they have built for it. At DL you have to stake your spot on the sidewalk realllllly early and it’s hard to see from a lot of places so I usually skip it at home :scared1:

The people in front of my mom were very rude and started a big scene during the show because my mom’s foot “touched” them. My mom doesn’t think that she did but even if she did on accident…it’s not worth throwing a big fit over. Some people….:confused3

The show was great though!!! (sorry, I really don't have any good pictures from the show)

When we got back to the POP there were a bunch of police cars, a fire truck and an ambulance outside so we were wondering what was up! After filling up our mugs we found out that a boy had almost drown in the hippidy-dippidy pool. He was using a life-vest as a little raft and they think he fell asleep. Another boy told his parents that something looked wrong so the mom dove in and got the boy then the dad performed CPR on him. The dad was able to get the boy breathing again which is great :worship: Thank goodness he was there!

By the end of the night we were all dog-tired and slept very soundly :cloud9:

Up next: Ohana and Animal Kingdom! (and better pictures :thumbsup2)

No oatmeal for me this morning but we were going to Ohana so that was a-ok with me! :thumbsup2 It was a beautiful morning at the Poly :goodvibes One day I will stay there! (when I have extra money LOL)

We had an ADR at 7:15AM so we got up pretty early and got ready to head out. I love how peaceful the property is in the morning. Here is a picture of the roads on the way from the POP to the Poly…

This was our first time to Ohana and were all very pleased. We used to live in Hawaii and go back a lot so we loved the feel of the restaurant and the POG juice :goodvibes

The food was great and the characters were awesome! We were visited by Lilo, Stich, Mickey and Pluto. We were a little bit worried about how much the characters were going to interact with a tale of three adults but we were pleasantly surprised.

Up next: Animal Kingdom!

We interrupt this regularly scheduled trip report to bring you a review of a day trip to Disneyland to see the new show World of Color!

We have totally been missing the Disney magic since we got back from our trip so my mom and I decided to spend a day at Disneyland (we were there Tuesday, June 15)

The new show, World of Color, had just opened a few days before so we definitely wanted to check it out. Right now, you need a fastpass to see the show. (You can technically “see” the show from all around the pier but you will not be able to see projections unless you are in the designated fastpass area). There are three ways you can get a fastpass…stand in line, buy a picnic lunch, or eat at a specific restaurant. We decided that we would just get there early and wait in line for the fastpass. A friend of mine was at Disneyland the day before we went and got there about an hour before DCA opened to get in line for the fastpass, so we decided to show up around the same time.

The morning of our Disneyland day I was listening to the traffic report on the way to my mom’s house, trying to figure out just how bad the dreaded 5 freeway would be (the most convenient way for us to get to Disneyland). Turns out there were a few different accidents and the freeway was stopped so we decided to take an alternate route that is sort of out of the way but was moving the whole way! Pretty soon we were at Disneyland!

We parked, rode the tram to the parks and immediately got in line for DCA. We found the fastpass line and jumped in. A cast member informed us that only one person from each party had to stand in line to get the passes and the other members could go have fun in the park as long as everybody’s ticket had been scanned into DCA. So I decided to wait in line while my mom went to the Grand Californian hotel to see if her friend was working (she is a server at Storytellers Café). The line took about an hour and a half but I was able to get us two tickets in the red section for the first showing of the night

With fastpasses in hand I headed into the Grand Californian to meet my mom. Her friend was working so we decided to have brunch and sit in her section. This was our first time eating in any of the resort restaurants at Disneyland and we really enjoyed it. My absolute FAVORITE part was that they had my OATMEAL!!!! Yes, the oatmeal was the same as at the POP and I was very excited about that!

After brunch we explored the resort a little bit and then headed to Disneyland.

We didn’t expect to get on many rides because the crowd levels were so high (cast member told us about 80,000) but we didn’t mind because we can always come back--- ahh the beauty of an annual pass :lovestruc

I don’t have too many pictures from the day because I couldn’t find my camera battery charger the night before and I was trying to save as much battery as I could for World of Color. But here are some pictures that we did take….

For dinner we decided to eat off-site so we left Disneyland and walked to Cocoa’s across the street. We shared an appetizer and a main course and both left full…good choice for our tummies and our wallets :lmao:

After dinner we headed back to DCA and rode Mulholland Madness….my mom is HILARIOUS on this ride. Each turn at the top she would say “I’m not sure, I’m not sure” :rotfl2:

We decided to line up for the show after that ride. My mom went and grabbed us some margaritas and we staked out a pretty good spot. As we waited we started to get really cold and after debating for about a half hour I decided that I should run back to the car and grab our sweatshirts. (Mind you, earlier in the day my mom said we should do this but I said the car was “too far” and that we would be fine….guess mother really does know best:rotfl:) So with 45 minutes until show time, I started heading to the car…FAST. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Disneyland or DCA…I had to get out of the park (the location of the WOC show is about as far into the park as you can get), walk through Downtown Disney, wait for a tram, ride the tram to the parking structure, ride the escalator a few floors up and after grabbing our sweatshirts do it all over again

I made it out of the park pretty quickly (took the shortcut through the Grand Californian) but missed the first tram by one person I boarded the next tram and it felt like it took FOREVER for us to start moving…and we drove REALLY slow (murphys law). After getting off the tram I ran up the escalator and grabbed our sweatshirts then had to take the stairs down since the down escalator was not in service. Luckily I got on the next tram fairly quickly and we didn’t drive so slow. Unfortunately, I couldn’t use the shortcut through the hotel to get back into the park (only for resort guests) so I had to go through the main entrance. I made it through the bag check and the main gates of DCA and got my speedwalk on! My heart sank when I got closer to the WOC seating area because there were hundreds of people being stopped by castmembers…I didn’t have time to be stuck! I made my way up to the front and told the castmember that I had just gone to grab our sweatshirts and showed him my fastpass and then he let me in. It was definitely cool to be the ONLY person walking on the sidewalk at DCA but I know I was getting the stink eye! I finally made it back to our seats with literally 3 minutes to spare!!! We were SO happy to have our sweatshirts for the show because know the sun was completely down and we did get misted during the show.

The show was really good! I loved the music and the fountains were very pretty. I’m super glad that we went and saw it in person! Although we enjoyed it, both my mom and I agree that we still like Fantasmic at DHS the best!!If you are planning a trip to Disneyland anytime soon I would definitely recommend watching this show!

Love teh DLR update. I think the place looks amazing. I hope to someday visit there too. I wish I lived closer...well closer to both Disneys. :rotfl:

We had Ohana's for dinner in Dec 2009 and loved it so much we are having it twice this trip. The day we get there and the last night we are there....:lmao:

We will be back.....Tasha's been busy....and she just had her 2nd interview for the Disney college program so she's been side tracked!!! I'll make sure she gets back on it tho!! :)

Love your trip report! I grew up in so cal and have fond memories of my families frequent trips to Disneyland!

The first time I visited the Magic Kingdom, I felt a little like I was in an episode of the Twilight Zone. Things were familiar, but not quite right.

Good luck with your interview for the college program. :wizard:
