DisneyLAND college program?

Is anyone currently doing or applying for the Disneyland college program in Anaheim?

I always wanted to but I don't have any kind of transportation for down there and I know I can't use that as an excuse but it's just not as convenient. And to think I have a cousin that works there as a security guard, lol. So, unfortunately, I'm doing the WDW CP instead.

The DLR CP is very much different from it's WDW counterpart.

Housing here is optional, and many CPers, particularly from Southern California, don't choose to live there. Indeed, they only reintroduced it recently, and are likely to get rid of it in the near future due to the large number of problems they've had there.

Under our new Union Contract, CPers in most roles will be prohibited from working anything in the morning or early afternoon. In addition, unlike WDW, we don't gurantee any hours for CPers.

On the other hand, DLR CPers do get a ridiculous amount (3 years worth) of Union Seniority. They also do enjoy Union rights and benefits (though they do have to pay dues).

Finally, the relationship between CPers and regular CMs here at the DLR is TERRIBLE, and has only gotten worse with the economy (for example, it was decided this semseter not to put CPers schools on their nametags, for their own protection).

Thank you for all the info! I just have a few questions now.
1. What kind of problems are they having at housing?
2. Even though hours aren't guaranteed, do CPers still get enough hours to be able to pay the bills?
3. Do you know if it's harder to get into DLR because of their small amount of housing as compared to WDW?

I am from WI and I want to do the DLR college program for the experience of living in California and having the opportunity to experience certain things there. I wouldn't mind doing the WDW program but I've been to Orlando like 12 times and I'm looking to experience something new. Thank you in advance!

The problems are the same kinds of things that probably go on at places like Vista Way or in any College Housing, underage drinking, drugs, partying, etc.

It's made worse because here at the DLR, we don't control the entire housing complex like WDW does. There are regular residents who live there as well.

There have also been management issues of various types.

Generally with 3 years of seniorty, CPers generally do pull enough hours in order to at least pay for their housing, though that may change once these new restrictions on shift times come into effect. However, with the current state of the economy, I have heard of some CPers who have not received sufficient hours to do so.

Housing here is completely optional (though the classes are not, unlike WDW), so the fact that we have so few units available doesn't effect the number of people we accept. However, you may not receive housing if they fill up before they accept you, in which case you would have to find available housing within the Orange County area.

As someone who is in the program right now, I can say all of that is true.

I would recommend not going with housing; I have a room right on the deck unfortunately and the late night partying, underage drinking and smoking (which is seeping into our room) gets old, especially when you have a shift the next morning.

It is more difficult to get into DLR. This year I believe they said there were about 2,000 applicants and about 200 of us made it in. If you take notes long in advance and practice practice PRACTICE your interview, you'll do just fine

And yes, the CM's don't like us very much. I've learned to ignore it and so will you. You just gotta remind yourself that anyone stupid enough to think YOU'RE taking their hours and not DISNEY, isn't worthy of your time.

Thank you both so much for all the info!! I think I've made up my mind to apply for WDW. One of the most important things to me in a job is my relationship with my co-workers, and I don't think I would be able to handle the situation at DLR if the CM's don't like the CP'ers. And also, I don't like the idea of not being guaranteed any hours. The good news is that I'll be able to enjoy more amusement parks in Orlando!!!
