Disneyland Changes Handicapped Rules

That's interesting Steph - thank you.

If implemented correctly I can see this as being a much fairer system.

Its a shame, some people spoil it for all the genuine people out there with REAL disabilities.

I always carry medical documentation with me at all time, listing DS/DH's disabilities, that way, if we ever come across people/CM's not believing us, we can show proof.

The wheelchair, ploy always gets me, WHY pretend you have a disability??!!!!,just to get onto a ride quicker!!STRANGE:mad:

Good for WDW !

Far too many folk try it on with the result that they cause problems for genuine people who have disabilities.

Like Jules says............they have to be STRANGE to utilise a wheelchair just to jump queues !

I have a brother with Spina Bifida and is totally wheelchair bound - he's been to WDW twice with us - I think in 2002 the policy had already changed slightly from 1996, in that there were some rides that EVERYONE had to use the line, even if you had a wheelchair and only the rides that you could not get through queuing area were you allowed to enter through the exit, and thus getting to the front of line. I can't remember what rides exactly - Buzz, POTC and Safaris spring to mind.

Check out this link to what Disney refer to as mainstream queues.

Mainstream queues

I remember on one trip seeing a large family with a wheelchair, and everytime we saw them, someone different was in the wheelchair!!!

You are right that most of the queues are wheelchair accessible now. In most cases, people using wheelchairs or ecvs (scooters) do wait in the regular line. There are still a few rides where someone in a wheelchair needs to board at the exit (otherwise their wheelchair would not be waiting for them when they get off). but in most cases, they wait in the regular line and are detoured to the exit just before everyone else boards.

Good!

I think Disneyland Paris already implements a system where proof of disability has to be produced and this was done because of people abusing the system.

..... these are the same people who think nothing of taking up the disabled parking spaces in car parks. It is an ignorant, lazy and disrespectful thing to do.

I hope this will also stop people treating those who have no outward sign of disability with suspicion - I've been dismayed by several posts where a person or members of their family have been treated with hostility in the parks by other guests, because they decided they had no legitmate reason to have the FOTL pass.
