Disneyland better than WDW

Anyone else a little tired of hearing about how much better Disneyland is than Walt Disney World? I love the podcasts and all the hard working members of the team but, intentionally or unintentionally, this message seems to be the theme as of late. There will always be people who like one over the other and that's awesome and makes for fun jokes and ribbing. I just think the WDW podcast should advocate for WDW and the Disneyland podcast can advocate for Disneyland. Right now, as a WDW lover I feel a little abandoned and neglected. Its almost like no one likes WDW better anymore, except maybe Kathy lol. Just my friendly opinion.

You've just got to remember when watching the Podcast that these Boards, Mega Meets, Podcast, the Daily Fix, Disney Pop, Give Kids the World, ALL OF THIS, is nothing more than a promotional and public relations tool for Dreams Unlimited Travel, PERIOD. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. It's a business and I don't blame Pete and John one bit. They just want their clients and potential future clients to travel to Disneyland, Disney Paris, Disney China, wherever, and all of those destinations fit the company's theme. Why promote travel to Disneyland? More people can afford to travel to Disneyland and more often, as compared to others places around the world. Plus, a large number of their clients are locals and they're just trying to get them traveling. And why the big promotion of cruises especially the Disney cruises? Cruise Lines and Tours Companies pay Travel Agencies the highest commissions.

I'm desperate to try Disneyland, we plan on getting married in WDW in 2018 and we are toying with the idea of going to DL for 3/4 nights afterwards as a sort of extra honeymoon just for us without the extended family... looking at the price though I will either need to use emotional blackmail to get the parents to pay for it or sell the soul of my first born, DL is pricey!

3 more words - Good Neighbor Hotel

That is all.

I am actually spending tonight watching the DLR 7 in 7 haha, It's difficult picking an offsite resort from so far away (UK). Don't want to turn up and be staying in the kinda place that charges by the hour or something like that.

Walt Disney purposely had a railroad berm built around the Disneyland Park itself so that once inside you cannot see out of the park. In that manner, yes you are definitely in a bubble. Downtown Disney and Disney's California Adventure have maintained that bubble. However, as time has gone on since Disneyland opened in 1955 taller buildings have been built and some attractions peak above that berm, so there are a few times where you get a glimpse outside the Disneyland Resort area - Tower of Terror (though the view of the San Gabriel Mountains in the distance is pretty cool), California Screamin', Mickey's Fun Wheel, and maybe Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain. Also, the Monorail has always taken you along Harbor Blvd, which is cool for kids who are staying in those hotels to see them. I remember as a kid we would always try to spot our car in the parking lot when we would pass it on our way to the Disneyland Hotel. We never looked at it in a negative way, but cool because we were breaking out of the bubble during that ride. So, once you are in the resort you are cocooned. I think for those guests that have never been to WDW it's not something we ever think about because we're too excited about going to Disneyland.

The Disneyland Resort will never compare to the Walt Disney World bubble. You're talking about 85 acres versus 40 square miles.

Bubbles are as much psychological as physical. Disneyland is our home resort -- we were locals for many years, and still keep Annual Passes even though we're now in Seattle -- and so, for us, the "bubble" starts the moment we step off Harbor and into what in Florida would be the bus stops outside the parks. That's where you start hearing the main gate music loops. As you approach, there's Disneyland to your right, California Adventure to your left, and Downtown Disney straight ahead. That's bubble enough for me.

I couldn't agree more :)

Loved the Connecting with Walt when they compared Disneyland and Magic Kingdom. One thing that I found curious was Michael saying he doesn't really like our Fantasyland because it's too much concrete. I think he's got a point about the original Fantasyland, but with the edition of NF, the area seems beautiful with waterfalls and landscaping. From what I've seen of DL's Fantasyland, it looks amazing. Compared to ours before the refurb, no question DL is better/more beautiful. But New Fantasyland is probably my favorite place on property now.

Anyways, thanks Michael for sparking the little internal debate in my mind!

I love both. My #1 favorite is Disneyland, which I prefer over MK by a lot. I grew up going to DL so that will also be my favorite park. I also love DCA. But I also love WDW and cannot wait to get back there after 6 years. They are different places, both are great. In the past 10 years I've spent twice as much time at WDW than DL- mostly because it is easier to do longer trips there.

I really loved the Disneyland shows. The 60th anniversary stuff was well worth reporting. It was special and Disney did a bang up job making it feel that way.
DL and WDW are so different that I'm not sure why there is so much comparing and bellyaching about which is better. Can't both be awesome? Because they are.
The moment you step outside whatever bubble be it on Harbor Blvd or I4, it's gonna feel trashy.

The vast majority of the shows are WDW focused because that's where the team is based. It's fun for them to get out to Anaheim and cover the newly reintroduced Food & Wine, 60th Anniversary, etc. I go to DL several times a year and I appreciate their perspective and reports. I learn things about stuff I've missed.

We will be in Aulani the end of this year. The current Aulani shows are invaluable. I'm so glad they are doing them. Sure, the boards are great but the live reports and pictures and opinions really resonate.

Tom left the link for the many offsite lodging he's stayed in and reviewed. If you still are undecided let us know and we'll be happy to help you whittle down your choices. :flower:

As a "Disneylander", I didn't take it as they meant DLR is better than WDW, I took it they were saying "if you have only been WDW, you should see DLR and here's why". I've seen many people come on the Disneyland boards and ask if they should bother coming to DLR because it is smaller than WDW and would there be anything to do. Their DLR podcast series is the answer to that question- yes, you should see Disneyland. I've been to WDW once a few years ago and we had a great time. We are definitely looking forward to going back and enjoying the POFQ resort again!

I HATE flying, but I would brave as many as it took to go cross country to visit Disneyland. Now that we own DVC it's a real possibility! Someday...

For us this question is REALLY easy. For one day would choose Disneyland. For a vacation, the World wins hands down, it's really not even close. The additional parks , the restaurants, the resorts , it's truly a vacation. One step out of the gate at the smaller Disneyland footprint you have a quasi urban area/Harbor Blvd , not magical !

Oh no. Just found this post after i made a poll on Disneyland vs. WDW. This post already has all the info!

I'm out in Anaheim now -actually leaving tomorrow morning. I've been to DL a couple times before for real quick visits and WDW dozens and dozens of times over 30/40 years. I have to say ...now that I've a had a chance to spend a little more time here, DL Resort has something special to offer. It's hard to put my finger on it, I'd say a combination of the Cast Members and more local guests, in a smaller setting, that help give the parks a special feeling. DL has what people describe as "IT" -you just can't simply compare parks, attractions, restaurants. I can't tell you how many times a Cast Members approached me to start a conversation. It was a great visit and can't wait to come back!
