Disneyland and Plantar Faciitis

Hello, I found Oofos a good flip flop for me. I also have Hokas and Altra running shoes that I rotate. Since I do the runDisney and stay near the convention center, I also just take a taxi or Anaheim shuttle back to my hotel at night. It is only like $6-8 bucks. On the nights I do walk that last long march, I go pretty slow. When my running buddy goes shopping, I sit down somewhere. I sit whenever I can. I put my my feet up if I can. I rub my arches whenever I can.

I found a chiropractor who works on the 'adhesions'. He rubs the arch and you can hear them pop. This has helped me a lot.

I have thought about getting Oofos.

I also have a walking boot that I plan on bringing just incase. Has anyone had any success using a walking boot to get relief?

I've lived with it for over 3 years. Some days are worse than others. For me, I never wear sandals when walking a lot - there's not enough support. When I do Disney, I wear 2 types of New Balance shoes. I'll start with the running shoe first, which has good cushion and arch support. Then I'll switch the next day to the 605 trainer. It's more rigid, so it gives some of the foot muscles a rest. If things get bad, I always bring along a stretchy ace bandage. It gives me just enough support without the irritation of inserts. Hope this helps a little.

I used strapping tape, would tape my foot for days at a time and it went away.

Check YouTube for plantar fasciitis taping to get an idea of what I'm talking about.

Good luck, plantar fasciitis is horrendous!

I too recently joined the PF club! Ugh! I already was on my feet all day at work and then started walking on my lunch break and hiking on weekends. I guess it was too much. My doctor told me to get Green Super Feet inserts which has made a world of difference. I also got Asics gel kayano shoes. They are soooo comfortable and were recommended by someone on here. They are expensive but worth it. I recently went for one day to DLR and all the walking did get to me and I'm worried about my week long trip in July. My foot was burning by the end of just one day. Thanks to everyone for the tips given here. I've been doing the stretches but didn't know about the ball. Actually, I just got a massager recently when I was having horrible neck pain for a month (yes, this is year I fell apart! ) and found using it on my foot helped that too. It is the kind that has rotating balls. I guess I'll keep up with that and look up the brace or socks or whatever.

I've been dealing with this myself, I work retail and am heading out in a week. Everything mentioned here. Lots of stretching as well. I also am having cold laser therapy up until I leave which is supposed to help with inflammation.

I found an inflatable foot tub to do my Epsom and ice soaks. And a foot roller by (By the Yoga supplies) that has bumps on it which you can freeze and roll your foot on.

I've also been doing PT twice a week. My therapist had lots of tips for me as well. My left foot is word than my right, because when you are right handed, you use your left foot for bracing alot. My calve muscles are super tight which pulls on the plantar fascia. It's all connected! So lots of stretches for that as well as my hips, etc so that I am in alignment.

She gives me a massage, after I stretch and then ice and stim.

She said flip-flops were horrible, because you extend your toes which pulls on your plantar fascia from the other direction. However the Vionic flip-flops I wear most of the time are better. But truthfully, my orthodics have been a life saver.

GOOD LUCK!

I didn't read all the other suggestions. I deal with this sometimes (usually when I'm pregnant and heavier) and what helps me the most is stretching them good before I get out of bed in the morning (and sometimes throughout the day - just flexing my foot and pulling my toes in towards my body) and using cushiony heel cups inside regular broken-in tennis shoes. That, and losing weight, which I usually do, but it takes soooo much time! Good luck! The few responses I skimmed had good suggestions.

Also go online and buy some rocktape ( it tends to stick better than other brands). Then go on youtube and watch the videos to learn how to apply it for PF. It will work wonders for you.

I got "semi-custom" inserts from a podiatrist and they made all the difference for me! He had some standard inserts in his office (that were more substantial than the ones in the store) and he modified them a bit right there while I waited. Cost about $60 for those inserts, and they pretty much cured my plantar fasciitis after wearing them in every shoe for about 6 months. I don't have much pain anymore, but I wouldn't dream of walking through Disneyland without them.

Also, these were the only shoes I would wear around the house (I used to be able to go barefoot) - they are awesome: http://www.vionicshoes.com/women/sandals/tide-ii-toe-post-sandal.html

Thank you for posting that. I went there and discovered there are slippers with support! I've been wearing not good shoes around the house because I needed something better than my old slippers. They were better than going barefoot, but not very supportive. I'm getting the boot style slippers because my feet are always cold. Can't wait for them to arrive. I hope they work well for me! Thanks!
