I wonder if that's some kind of Irish or Scottish flat cap on Walt's head. I searched for images of Walt wearing a cap and found a few that might match that profile. However, there were far more images of Walt wearing different hats, so I may be totally off base.

It is possible, but I am pretty sure it is suppose to recreate the partners statue and Walt is not wearing a hat in that

I am hoping that Disney will realize the HUGE mistake here and quickly replace it. Can you imagine 18 months of going to Disneyland to be greeted by that guy with Mickey instead of Walt?

Kinda like the AI generated art decor in the HM store. That came down pretty quick.

I thought it looks like one of those newsie style hats and thought maybe it matched the Walt and Oswald in CA Adventure. Turns out that is not the hat being worn over there either.

Otherwise, I love the colors of the decorations! I can't wait to see it all in person!

Indeed. And by a company renowned for its attention to detail.

I didn't see Jerrod's posting before I sent the following note to DL Guest Services via their website contact form just now:

I've just seen a photo of the newly installed Walt-and-Mickey "Main St. USA" flag atop Sleeping Beauty Castle. The silhouette of Walt Disney looks nothing like him! Even a quick look at the Partners statue in front of the castle---not to mention the hundreds or thousands of photos that Disney designers must have of Walt--will prove that his hairline was well back on his forehead. That hair sticking out in front looks ridiculous. And the body of the silhouette makes him look fatter than he was.

I can't believe that a company known for its attention to detail let this bad design slip by. Please, please have someone redo that silhouette properly--and soon--so it can replace this atrocious one atop the castle before or shortly after the 70th anniversary celebration begins.

A TON of 70th merchandise was released in the stores today. Below is maybe 50% of what they had.

They have some fun retro stuff like a pack of old school postcards, post-its that are shaped like ABCDE tickets, and the old pens where when you tilt them Tinkerbell & the Mark Twain float in water.

Customizable bubble wand. Each wand comes with one hat. You can purchase additional hats as well.


Headband embroidered with Disneyland 70th. Each headband plushie has 70th embroidered on the back.

The resemblance to Trump was so obvious, it almost feels like a prank on Disney.

So I do love the little castle in the middle of both parks but I'll be honest....the merch and colors in certain places aren't doing it for me

Its not bad but kinda like some of the Pixar fest last year the colors in some places feel out of place, not going to ruin the event of anything but just my thoughts.

I agree. For example, the black jersey is kind of cool but they put the rainbow 70th on the back which doesn't really go on a jersey.

It sounds like merchandise is being released in different stores in waves. The DLH told us that they couldn't sell the totes yet, but they were being sold in the DTD stores. The DLH and the the parks had the Vault collection, but WOD said they can't put it out until later in the week. There is also a Castle collection that is in the parks that wasn't in DTD yesterday. sandra_la55 and disney.kid.at.heart shared videos of those collections on their Instagram.

Reservations for MK are booked all week. There were intermittent openings for today so maybe some of the merchandise followers were able to snag a reservation.

While I was looking for merchandise pictures, I saw this posted on Instagram.

I think the new Walt & Mickey are backwards. Previously, the front view of the castle was when you exited Disneyland and looked towards DCA. I wonder if they will turn the Partners statue around.

Disneyeats just shared a clip of the Mickey popcorn bucket. Mickey blinks, moves and speaks! Rumored price is over $50.

They may have done more than that. I flipped the photo to match an earlier closeup in this thread, and Walt looks (appropriately) thinner in the new one. I hope that's the case. But it's hard to tell with two photos that might have been taken at slightly different angles.

Anyway, the main thing was the extremely inaccurate hair, and they've definitely fixed that.

I just saw they added a little booth to Fronterland and you can scan your ticket and get a free little card the three cards I've seen are for the Disneyland railroad, Mark Twin and Golden Horseshoe
