Disneyland 1/2 Marathon Weekend ** September 2-4, 2011 ** Check-In

Crazy? no way!!!.....I'm crazy!!!...I'm not a runner and I will be running the Disneyland 1/2 in September. Then in January I will be running the WDW 1/2 on Saturday and the full on Sunday. Then turn around and run the Tinkerbell a couple weeks after that. Havent even started to train yet. Im over weight so I have a long way to go...lol....I need to quit being lazy

Yea, I would get started. I would look at Jeff Galloway W&D plans on the Run Disney Web Site. You could start this week and Jump to the optional DL half in Week 14. Jeff should be coming out with the plans for the January races fairly soon. Last year he had a "bridge" program from either W&D or DL to the January Marathon. Good luck and get out there.

Yeah, that was the medal for the 5k last year. I don't know if the medals are the same for the kids and the 5k though.

It said 5k and kids medal. I'm hoping they are different. Thanks for answering.

It's officially training time!! 12 week 1/2 training is officially starting. I'm so excited. More for DL than the 1/2, but it's still my fave 1/2. :yay:

On a non-running note, I was looking at the picture updates on Miceage at the construction in DCA. I know that a lot of it will be finished this summer, but I was trying to remember the last time that I was there and there were no construction walls up somewhere. It's been going on for at least 2 years, maybe three right???

You're right, they do. I looked at all my past 5K medallions and they all say "5k and Kid's Races".

It's definitely been going on for what feels like ages! I love seeing everything come along though and I can't wait until it's done.

Heck, it reminds me of work, haha. Our store is getting a remodel and we've got walls up in random places. Maybe if I close my eyes I can pretend I'm at DCA or something.

I've slacked off in my 'training' lately but I'm really going to start getting back into it tomorrow. I'm only doing the 5K in September but I want to get my butt in gear. And be sure that I'm ready for the 1/2 in January!

Just wanted to pop by and say hi :wave2:. Let me know if you would like me to post a meet on the September board.

So did everyone see today that the 5k is Star Tours themed this year? The kids are way excited

Hmmm a Star Tours theme ruins my idea of dressing up like AC Slater from Saved by the Bell. On the other hand, it will be a lot easier to put this costume into my luggage than an elaborate Star Tours-themed costume.

I'm actually a little bummed by the Star Tours themed 5K. I am brining my DD down as a surprise for her 10th birthday to run the 5K together and I am not sure that a Star Tours medal will be a big thrill for her...

I'm also really hoping there is a different medal for the kids races. Many of the younger kids won't even know what Star Wars is ... not to mention that a lot of them are too small to even able to ride Star Tours.

I am disappointed by the SW's theme because SW isn't Disney to me. :confused3 Don't get me wrong I love the original 3 movies but I was hoping for a theme based on Disney and or Disney/Pixar characters.

Hey everyone!! I know that this thread is for the DL, but since a lot of us are doing Tinkerbell in Jan, thought I would post this to use as our inspiration while we're training in the winter. It was on their facebook today.

On a DL note, I know it's early but I was looking around the webpage today and they posted the race weekend program if you want to check it out. Less than 3 months!!

I saw that on FB a bit ago. I love it!! And I'm so excited I get to be a part of the inaugural race.

I like that it is Star Tours since it was such a big thing at both parks this year. My sons and DH will all love having that medal. My youngest son will be slightly disappointed if he gets the same medal for running the kids race though so I hope it is different this year.

For me, training was going well. On June 13th I was up to 9 miles. Last week though I developed something in hip area. I should have cut last Monday's run short but I didn't. It's been improving but not very quickly. After this Monday I'm taking a week off to hopefully let it finish fully heal.

Long run of 6 miles postponed a few days...knee is sore. I did 5 miles no issues last week. Training is going better than it did for me for the WDW half I completed in January. Due to being my dad's caregiver, and then his passing in November, I had almost no training for the WDW half...still completed in 3:19:07. I run/walk, and managed to maintain a 15:00 pace with a bathroom break and taking pictures. I figure any training I get in ahead of DL, I am better off. I don't want to get injured, so taking the cue from my body to take this week as a light one...a walk tonight, may be a shorter run tomorrow.
