Disneyland ½ Marathon Weekend~2012 Check-in!

Thanks for sending it to me, Kim :) I never get the emails for some reason. Glad to know I'm not the only one, lol.

In the email they sent out they mentioned purchasing DL tickets for a discount. Does anyone know how much of a discount it is?

I like the pin for the race.

:dance3:The course is up!! The course is up!!! :dance3: Looks like a little more in DCA. Not as much as I hoped, but looks like we get Cars Land. I'll play w/ uploading the map, in a little bit, right now I could only get the Adobe. But here's the link:

Will the necklace look similar, do you think? I ordered that and wasn't going to get the pin but now I don't know…that pin is pretty cute.

This is the 1st year. I think the Tink one had a charm of the medal and one other small charm with the date.

Can you send me the email...I never get the emails. Thanks!

Send it out in a few for you!!

No worries!:goodvibes Their email system is always weird! :rotfl2:

They vary from $71 to $220 for a 6 day tix.

I looked on You tube out of curiosity. There are a couple. But in looking at the map for this year, it looks like less DL and we go in through the castle backwards into Fantasyland vs the past year's where it was Fantasyland through the castle. They did that w/ Tink this year and wasn't really a fan. I liked the other way b/c the were better photo ops, oh well.

This one is the Disney overview from last year w/ a few highlights.

HAHA, looking at that course map we'll be running right by the street I'm currently living on. Pretty funny. At least I like to think so. I'm looking forward to running by the Honda Center (even if I hate the Ducks) and my cousin is gonna be so jealous about running through Angels Stadium.

I'm getting more excited about this. :)

Angels Stadium was incredible. One of the best parts of the course. And I haven't been an Angels fan in years. I liked them for a few years growing up, but between moving to the Bay Area and my favorite Angels player leaving the team, it's been all Giants ever since.

My friend and I are coming from Canada to run this race. I am so excited. It will really be a dream come true. Now that we are under the 100 day mark I am hoping some of you experts will help me with all my questions. My first couple of questions relate to spectators. My family would like to watch at the Angel's stadium. Will they be able to do this? Also, is there bleacher type stands at the finish that are not part of the cheer squad. Even though we live in Canada we purchased annual passes this year as we are doing 3 trips and it was worth the money. My family really wants the bleacher seating at the finish but we do not need the park pass that it comes with. Thanks in advance.
I'm really excited to get to know more of you as this event gets closer!!!!

Thanks, I got it! When I emailed runDisney they said my email was fine in their system and to check my spam folder, but it wasn't there either. :confused3

It does look pretty similar to the 2010 course.

I think the bleachers are only for people who purchase the Chear Squad packages, but yes, they can watch at the Stadium. Only thing is they may have to get there really early due to the streets being closed for the race and I'm not sure if they would make it back in time to see you finish.

Talk about perfect training runs! :goodvibes How's your new job going?

The big question is in '02, were you a Giants fan or an Angels fan? :rotfl2:

My family would like to watch at the Angel's stadium. Will they be able to do this? Also, is there bleacher type stands at the finish that are not part of the cheer squad. I can't remember if it was up last year, but I remember there being a set of bleachers on the DTD side before ESPN Zone and the crossover from the DLH, by the old coffee shop. I don't know whether or not those were chear squads, but there weren't a lot of people sitting in them. (Saw my family there in '10 and they didn't pay for it.) If you don't need the tix, I wouldn't get the chear package. There are spots b/w the ESPN Zone, which is right next to the finish, and along DTD where they can stand and cheer for you. Like Sarah said, it'll be hard to get from the Stadium to the finish in time b/c of the roads closed and backed up traffic.

If anybody's wondeirng about MM for their family, don't know if their doing it on Sunday this year. I signed up for the AP MM this morning and the 1st 1 available that weekend was Monday for DL. There weren't any Fri-Sun, but that could've been just for the APs.

i didn't even think about that, lol. I may have to get on that. And the job is going swimmingly :goodvibes Definitely made the right move in coming down here for this, that's for sure. Many exciting things right now.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't even think about road closures. As we wouldn't have a car, they would have to take a cab and that would be even more challenging. If they could somehow see us around the finish that would be great. This is my first Disney race and I am imagining hoards of people and never being able to find each other.

The best part of the race is running through Angels stadium and seeing yourself on the Jumbotron....kinda wierd really! I am disappointed I am unable to run this year, but for sure 2013.

Another thing your family can do is watch you in the beginning as well as towards the end and at the end. We run along Katella next to the back of the park, turning onto Harbor and they can watch on the sidewalk. That's the 1st mile or so. The next part towards the end is Disney Way, the street that is perpendicular to the parks and dead ends at Harbor, where the old entrance to the parking lot is. That's right before mile 12. Make sure they're on the parks side vs. the Katella side and from there, depending on how fast you run, they can watch near the finish. The end of the race is on the service road from behind PP, past the DLH and to the finish. (It's the road you cross over if you stay at the DLH to get to DTD and the parks) So they have that big stretch of road they can watch you.

In the finish area after you get your drop bag, there are stations set up for family reunions so you can meet there. Make sure they know what you're wearing also, it'll be easier for them to find you during and after the race. Also, don't wear the race shirt ~ a lot of people wear them and it'll be hard for your fam to pick you out.

Thanks so much Kim. We are staying at the Best Western Park Place Inn on harbor so your viewing strategy seems very doable!

That's where I'm staying! Watching you should be super easy. They can cross right at the crosswalk and keep going left own Harbor to the old parking lot entrance to see you near the start and over by the finish.

Figured out a costume/theme!!! :woohoo: Was playing around online and found these:

Armed w/ those choices went all around this morning and figured the Cinderella theme is going to be easier than Eeyore. At Party City they had some nail stickers for kids and rubberbands w/ plastic Cinderellas on them. I also found some curly cue ribbons for a package in that color blue w/ some green strands for Dis/Wish that I can put in my ponytail!! princess: And at Michaels, they had these great disney princess themed stickers that I can try to attach to my running shirt. My luck semi-continued at Sports Authority w/ a running shirt. They a cheap Cinderella blue men's shirt and an Under Amour Women's shirt, but not in my size. Hopefully I can find the UA shirt in my size, b/c not only was it blue, but it had a lime green little 1/2 circle on the back right at the collar of the shirt. Don't really get the purpose of that, but it's green so I can still have a little dis/wish going on.

That was easy! Now all I need is race weekend to hurry up and get here. :hyper: Well, that and the 5k course map. :rotfl:

Kim- hopefully we will see each other!!

We have just finalized our race outfits. We are going to be "Sparkily Canadian Chicks". So far we have red tutus with rhinestones and shirts with the Canadian Nathional Anthem printed on a maple leaf on the shirt. We still need to get black running tanks and shorts and Canada flag bows for our hair.

We also have "costumes" for our families. Our husbands have Canada hockey-type jerseys and ball caps that say "eh". For the two young girls and baby boy we have Canada Shirts. The baby one says "Made in Canada" ( I think. I'll take some pictures later this week and post) We also got the kids headbands with antennae. On the antennaes there are Canada flags.

Love the shirt for the baby!! That's hilarious.

They posted a pic for the necklace on facebook. Looks nice and simple.

I saw that necklace on Facebook today too!!! Love it!!! I'm going to have to really control myself on this trip. As this is my first Disney race, and I'm a Disney freak, I'm sure I'll want to purchase everything that says Disney / running / Mickey etc. I already ordered two pins when I did my registration.

I love the costume ideas! I'm such a beginner that I'm afraid I would be distracted by a costume and it would throw me totally off. I gotta finish! :)

I like the necklace, too. I had already pre-ordered it without even seeing it. I guess it will be good to spread out the expenses.

I have another question that maybe some of you veterans dis-runners can answer. I try to think outloud to my dh and he just rolls his eyes at me  that I would have such a discussion 95 days in advance. :rotfl:

My kids LOVE LOVE Goofy's Kitchen. I was thinking we could go there after the race. I figure I'll be starving! Given that I've never raced, will be slow, and will probably lay down and cry happy tears right after...what time should I think about scheduling brunch? I'll probably want to run up and shower, too. AND...that will be our first day going into the parks so I'm also not sure if we'd rather skip the big meal and head to DL? Decisions, decisions!

How's everyone's training go? I'm feeling pretty good! Starting this weekend, it'll be 100 + degrees so we'll see how that goes ALL summer long!

:goodvibes
