hi all,
im hoping someone can give us some advice plz,

we are due to go to disney in feb 04,this is our first time out of the UK and too be honest we can not really look forward to it as theres somethings that we are a little nervous about.

driving over there, they drive on the wrong side of the road too us,my husband too be is the one thats not looking forward to this(its our honeymoon with our 5 year old daughters) is it hard or do you pick it up quite quickly?

we have been told that theres places in the area that we should not go been tourists, but we were not told where the places were, can anyone shed some light on this?

we will be coming in2 sanford,we have also been told hat we could be waiting to get out of the airport for up to 3 hours if its busy, due to customs ect?

sorry its all a bit of a moan,
other than that we can not wait,we are worse than the kids for been excited.

Vicky,

Hopefully we can put and end to your worries.

1. Driving. It's a doddle. Yes it feels a little weird at first, but the cars are all automatic, so just point it and press the pedal. Everything is sign posted really well around WDW. Speeds/agression is usually much lower than on UK roads.

2. No go zones. Well, I've never heard of any. If you stay within the tourist areas (WDW and I-Drive) I'm sure you will be fine. Of course there will always be tales of people having bad experiences, but you get those here too.

3. Sanford. This is a great airport. It's sole purpose is to welcome UK tourists to the US. Immigration, baggage collection and car rental are all speedy and efficient. I think we were on the road within 40 minutes last August. Personally, I've never heard of anyone taking 3 hours.

The whole experience of going to Florida is a joy. People there are courteous, and customer service is fantastic.

It is a truly magical place, but it will spoil you for all future holidays. Nowhere else can measure up!!!

I hope that has put your mind at ease. I'm sure others here, who have more experience of Florida will be along to add more comments (hopefully of the same theme).

Relax, get planning, and look forward to a stunning holiday.

Cheers

Hi Vicky,

I can only reiterate what Craig's already said....

1) Driving really IS a doddle, I was 21 the first time I went and terrified of driving abroad (it was also my first time abroad) and found it to be a huge relief, I'd spent months mentally planning how I was going to cope with being on the wrong side of the road, and it was all in vain. There are no roundabouts, the roads are huge and it's all VERY easy. The only thing that catches me out, is remembering that it's ok to turn right on a red light!!! Just seems so wrong!

2) The only no-go zones I've heard of are in Downtown Miami (which is 200 miles away from Orlando), I really wouldn't worry about that, signposting is fine and you'll be hard pushed to wander off the beaten track.

3) I've never flown into Sanford personally, but have heard of lots of people who have and can't think of any horror stories there...... Can tell you lots about Greece though!!! In comparison to Europe the US is very easy and customer friendly.

You're going to have the time of your life :)
