Do you this there will be any classes during December? We are traveling to Disney 12-5 -- 12-11. I'd love to enroll our DS(12) in a class while we are there and, of course, take advantage of the tickets. Can more than one adult attend a class with a child? Looking forward to a possible December class opening!!!!

I received a prompt email back from Heidi at the YES program regarding the possibility of additional dates for Aug 14-22. The response was that at this time they do not have plans to add additional classes. But the class she stated is running then is not the one I received in a previous email shcedule. Hopefully if enough people request it, they may reconsider.

Also received a response from someonelse stating you could use Disney rewards card for payment when picked up tickets-I am not sure on this so I will call tomorrw to verify-I think they may be confusing this with the regular Visa.

Will update tomorrow after I speak with them.

I would love additional info. My DH made a rash decision/purchase and ended up with p.h for too many days. We still want to go the class, but would love to adjust the tickets. I think I saw somewhere in this thread that tickets are refundable, but not changeable. I would like to use rewards as well. Not much info on the website.

I'm hoping for January too! Is there a class already scheduled for the 25th? I saw the earlier post about classes at AK that week, but it didn't look like it was officially scheduled yet. We'll be there Jan 22-Feb 1st and I'm really hoping that at least my 7 yo can participate and we can get discounted tickets!

I received an email this morning with Aug/Sept/Oct Open Enrollment dates. :yay:

I have Properties of Motion reserved for Nov. 12th.

Could you tell me a little about what to expect?
I'm worried since I have my 12 & my 8 yo in there. Do you think I should move the 8yo to the younger group?

No,. I think it would be good for both actually. We did some small experiments (which were interesting actually) and then filled out some paperwork (like a small worksheet, always done as a group (I was with my ds) and we rode and went UNDER/behind Haunted Mansion ride, so interesting....also STitches Great Escape (which I always avoid, LOL) and Mickeys Philharmagic, and then discussed different things both before and after. We really enjoyed it and Learned too, if only all kids had the opportunity to learn this way. Seriously, it was a wonderful experience and I enjoyed having some time, just me and my son. Our group had 3 other families, all working on our own groups. I think it would be really nice to have the two kids together, they'll prob really like it. :wizard:

I am registering for a class on October 2. Will the tickets still be valid on Octo 9th? I know they are good 7 days before and 7 days after but is that a total of 15 days or 14?

Good Question! The class I want is on the 25th and I arrive on the 18th!

We arrived in Orlando on June 16th and came home on June 25th. Our tickets were good from June 9th-July 2nd. These tickets don't follow the good for 14 days after first use rule.

Properties of Motion - July 14, 2010

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My family attended the Properties of Motion class on July 14, 2010.

We are me, DW, DD (17 yo), and DSs (8, 9, 10 y/o).

We arrived at the TTC at 7am. Parking lot open and trams running, but no attendants. Got the best parking spot I'm ever going to get. Walked to a building just to the right of the ticket booths. There had been no mention of where the YES group was supposed to meet, but this was the only visible non-CM group at the TTC, so they were easy to find.

The class had about 36 students and perhaps 24 parents (60 in all). We were broken into three groups. Our group had twelve students. Most looked to be 7th-10th graders, but my kids were older and younger than this.

Class was supposed to start at 7:15am, but we had to wait for one student. Turns out they were waiting in another part of the TTC. It was quite muggy and 82 degrees out, making outside activities mildly uncomfortable.

We were supposed to start the class on the monorail, but the monorails were undergoing a safety check, so we all boarded a bus to the MK.

Once at the MK, our teacher, Ned (27ish, part time chemistry teacher from Boston) began the class, near the Seven Seas lagoon. He brought out a Mickey head ornament hanging on a string and asked students to name some of its properties. Eventually got around to a discussion of inertia. Discussed the difference between speed and velocity, acceleration and Newton's 2nd law.

Ned mixed in lots of Disney stuff into the class. Whenever some part of the park disrupted his discussion, such as the railroad whistle or a character walked by, he would say something like, "Well, there's part of that Disney magic!" and continued on. He also brought in the movie Hercules. We had to slap our heads and shout "Oh, Herc!", which was actually O-H-E-R-C, which are letters that represent the scientific process (Observation, Hypothesis, Experimentation, Recording, Conclusion).

Ned was quite patient. Certain members of our group were very high maintainance. One student did not participate in anything. Another kept asking what rides we were going on and for free ice cream, but had little interest in the class. Others needed bathroom breaks at bad times and another parent determined that she couldn't make the walking and needed a scooter. Ben managed these quite well so that the class was not disrupted.

Walked into the park at 7:50 am (after a bag check and running tickets through the reader). Main Street was far from empty, but it was not mobbed.

Walked to Tommorrowland. Took lots of video on the way, but at Tommorrowland, there was a rope across the entrance, just past the bridge. At that point we were instructed to stop taking pictures.

Walked to an area just to the right of Space Mountain. He had set up three small roller coaster like tracks that used marbles instead of cars. One had a loop, the next a simple curve, the next a simple hump. Ned explained the concepts of potential and kinetic energy, first by bouncing a golf ball and then by having the students (broken into three groups of four) try out the mini roller coasters. Students made measurements of how high the marble had to start to complete each roller coaster.

Then we rode on Space Mountain. First with the lights on, then with the lights off. Really cool to see. However, with the lights on, Space Mountain is a real lame ride. Good thing its done in the dark.

We were supposed to estimate (1) max speed, (2) max height, (3) height of largest drop, (4) length of ride. These guesses were made after riding with the lights on, the off, then he gave the answer.

Then we learned about pneumatics and hydraulics. He had a Lego toy to show this.

Then we went to Buzz Lightyear, just as the park was opening. Got to see the mad rush to Space Moutain. People dragging frightened children by the hand to be first in line to Space Mountain look really silly from the side.

We rode Buzz Lightyear to find examples of pneumatics and hydraulics. And wrote them down after.

Then we walked across the park and stopped in front of the Liberty Tree Tavern for a lecture on centriputal force. Learned about F=mv2/r. He had a picture of Mickey Mouse riding on a curvy road and each group of kids were asked to pick out F, m, v and r in the picture. Also learned about g-forces and lateral forces.

Then we all rode BTMRR to experience g-forces and lateral forces.

Had a brief discussion of the experience afterwards. Then class ended around 10 am.

Excellent class and teacher. It would have been worth it just for the parking spot. But also got early entry into MK and got to ride SM with lights on. And a fantastic phyisics class. Well worth it.

The class is applicable for a wide range of ages. For the younger kids, its a great introduction to physics.

I sent an email and asked about the tickets and from what I understand they r good 7 days prior to your arrival date and 7 days after the departure date you give them. So we arrive on october 1st and leave on the 10th so they are good Sept 23-Oct 17. I'm off to register and order our tickets now:woohoo:

I just spoke with Heidi at the YES program and at this point it does not look like they will be adding other classes for the week of Aug 14-22.

Can not pay with a Disney Visa rewards card (earned rewards), it must be a Visa. I have a 1,000 disney dollars, and everything is pretty much paid for except tickets-what to do.

Can you pay for them with the Rewards card if you pick them up at guest services? I know you have to use a credit card if you pay online.

Are you paying for the DDP? Maybe you could remove it from your reservation and get a refund to your CC, then add it again when you arrive and use your rewards points to pay for it?

Or maybe use it for souvenirs and all the Christmas presents for everyone in your family?

Appreciate the suggestions. Heidi told me they have to be paid for when signing up and that their registration system only accepts VISA.

This is a budget trip compared to our others, so we are staying at our time share and going to Universal, so will not spend that much on food and no real shopping either. I guess I will load it with 500 for food and I can add if I need to. The savings on the tickets probably will balance everything out.

Thanks

That's right, you do have to pay when you register. I guess it is picking up you can do at guest services.

All our trips are budget, LOL. We stayed offsite the last two years and really enjoyed it.

So you haven't loaded it yet? That's good; I don't think the time starts ticking on them expiring until you load the money. Maybe it will be a jumpstart towards saving for your next trip.:goodvibes

Oh, one last idea. Are you getting a Photopass CD? That website accepts the Disney Rewards card as a from of payment. I used the tiny bit left on mine to pay for the shipping(I did the preorder). That is the one non-budget thing we did so we could have pictures of both of us together.

Marsha

Looking for a group 2/15/11-2/28/11. Any advice. I have 3 children to attend, 5th, 8th and 11th grade.
