Disney YES Program Open to non-groups

How many kids does it take to get a group together for a YES program?

I'm going the above dates, but couldn't get a group. I'll have six kids with already ages 3 - 12. I noticed today that they also have Disney Adventures theme park tickets for groups of 10 or more ages 3 - 22.

Anybody intersted? I don't think I can get enough to get into the education program. I need more grandkids!

I can't do those dates, but what exactly is the Disney Adventures?

The YES website lists Jan 24-25 as open enrollment dates at AK. It seems kind of obscure and out of place where it's listed though, so maybe it's a mistake? This will work for some, but not all, of our party, so I hope they add more dates!

Does anyone have one during August 20-29 with room for my 12 year old DD? If so, I am very interested. Please PM me :thumbsup2

I looked on the site and didn't see those dates? Could it have been 2010 dates? My DD did the AK open enrollment in Jan 2010 and that was the week we were there. I got an email from Sarah just a couple of days ago saying that they had not announced January dates yet.

I'm interested in the program for January, too. Does anyone know when they officially announced the January dates for last year? I'm waiting to book flights and lodging until I know for certain about Jan. 24 & 25th. I've seen that these are Homeschool Days also, so maybe this has something to do with open enrollment being offered these days?

I talked to Heidi with the YES program on Friday. She told me that they didn't have any dates set for sure for the open enrollment but to check back with her in September. I asked her if they were planning on doing it again like they did last year around the same time as the homeschoolers. She didn't want to say yes but I got the feeling that it would be about the same time. Guess I'll just have to check back later in the year.

Hmmm.... I wonder what's up with the discrepancy between what people are being told, and what's posted on their site.

Yes, me too. The January 2011 dates are obviously posted on the website. They are within the same time frame as the January 2010 dates. That only Animal Kingdom is mentioned seems a bit odd, but I thought they might just be narrowing the options for next year rather than offering classes at all the parks. :confused3

I was thinking it is because only the homeschool days have been set. The rest may not be scheduled. I thought it was originally opened so that homeschoolers who don't run in packs as often as school groups would have the opportunity to participate. I could be wrong about it, though.

I was wondering if anyone knows what parents are allowed to do if they aren't chaperoning the group and the class starts before the park opens?

Haha! If only my 12 year old could get there by herself, that would be a perfect idea! :lmao:

Oh- it's my understanding that one parent must stay with the child taking the class.

Only during Open Enrollment.
All other times of the year, there is a min of 1 - max 2 chaperon to 10 kids.
Unless the parent is one of the 2 chaperons, they are not allowed to attend, (even if they wanted to pay the $26 extra course fee).
I asked.

The course my DS is interested in meets at the TTC at 7:15am. & lasts 3 hours. I guess the parents would meet at a prearranged spot at 10am in MK. But since the class is best on a non EMH day that would mean hanging out at a resort till 9am. Plenty of time to do breakfast.

My teen and I attended World of Physics, energy and waves last week. He is a HS'er. (didn't want to go alone and glad I went!!) The group was three families and we were thus three "teams" that worked together to discover about Physics of Energy and Waves. The kids were middle school age to Hs. We noticed that two other groups also went out, they both had younger children. I think that is a good idea to "gear" it towards what ages the kids are. The groups all met at MK, signed in, given name tags and off we went with Steve of Washington Dc as our "teacher". He was personable, informative, well prepped and we both thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It was quick paced, interactive with "little experiments" and activities, lots of questions and answers and even some trivia tossed in. What a great way to learn...what could be better! A plus to this particular class was the opportunity to go behind and under, yes I said Under (haunted mansion) as part of the learning experience!
So, we'd do more classes if they are available to us again for our next Disney trip. We'd recommend this. And "hats off" to Steve, Way to go!! :cheer2: And good luck with that "stilt" thing, LOL!!!
