I don't know if anyone else bought the Disney Yearbook when it was released, but I just got this e-mail today:

"Dear Yearbook Purchaser,

We'd like to inform you that your 2005 Disney Insider Yearbook, featuring Disneyland's 50th Anniversary Celebration, will be the only edition of the Yearbook produced. Because of its limited production, the Yearbook is truly a Disney collector's treasure. For those who signed up for the annual Yearbook subscription, there will be no further charges to your credit card, as the 2005 edition will be the only edition produced."

I am pretty disappointed since I thought it was a really neat thing and was looking forward to getting it every year, does anyone have any idea why they would decide to not continue it. I thought there was a high level of interest and enough people would buy it to make it profitable.

I received the e-mail and was surprised too. :confused3
The price was steep. But so are all coffee table type books. It was loaded with color photos. Once I saw the book I realized why the cost. The "litho" in the book is a joke. But the book is very well done.

Really, what else could they do? Disney Yearbook 2006: Capt. Jack Sparrow Edition? Why subscribe to a book of advertisements? Start releasing them from the EARLY days, like an encyclopedia of sorts...

Yea, sounds like another Disney bomb.....We bought one when it came out. There was so much fan fare about "each year" now, kaput. Well, maybe the one issue will be come a collectors item like they said....oh, round' about when our DVC membership expires, probably. I'll go seal mine in a time capsule "til then....... :teeth:

I don't think there was anything wrong with the concept. It was designed to be a snapshot-in-time review of what happened at all things Disney over the past year. The '05 edition covered the likes of Chicken Little, Narnia, Happiest Celebration, etc. This year's edition would likely have been more focused on Cars, Pirates, Year of a Million Dreams, Pixar acquisition, Tarzan on Broadway, etc.

The bigest surprise to me was the volume of noteworthy contributors--people like Jason Surrell, Jeff Kurtti and Bruce Gordon.

The only thing I didn't like about it personally was that it seemed to look an awful lot toward the future given the "Yearbook" format. Instead of focusing entirely on '05, I felt there was too much coverage of things coming in '06. Still I was disappointed to hear it will not be returning.

I saw it for sale at mousesurplus when we were there on 9/29. I didn't notice how much it was, but I'm sure it was greatly reduced. I did fan through the book. It looked like a very high quality production.

I felt the same way. I mainly got the Yearbook because it dealt with the 50th in DL and my DW and I took our first trip to DL in Aug of '05. But I was surprised on how much '06 events were in the book.
