Disney World while Pregnant

Congrats!!! I went to DW and rode dinosaur and the safari ride (and held my belly the whole time) I was 6 months pregnant!!! We also had a 2 year old with us and no stroller!!!!!!!!! I even carried him through the parks!!!!!!!!! Have fun!!!!!!!!:teeth:

You rode the dino ride? I thought that was off limits for mommies to be?
That ride would be too much for my sweetie pie to handle I think. We are going to stick to the easy stuff this trip around. If we go to AK we will do the Conservation Station and the Tigers and Bats and go to Camp Minnie Mickey but I think we might avoid the safari and the like...

You know, come to think of it, I rode the dino ride when I was pregnant the 1st time, only about 3 months or so. But I did ride the safari ride when I was 6 months preggie. My babies are fine, BTW.

Congratulations! I've been at both 10-12 weeks and 6 months. I was sick with all 3 of my babies. I was lucky in that both trips were during Food & Wine Fest so I could "pick" my way around WS and not have to try to sit down to a dinner. You really can eat well at Disney if you want-lots of fruit available at those stands..... I did take afternoon breaks with both pregnancies and needed them-especially the break from the heat! I didn't go to AK on the trip I was 6 months but did ride safari on the other trip. And my DD 11 months on last trip loved that ride. Fell asleep the first time on it.

beautybelle-as someone who went through infertility I would start trying now or maybe wait just a month or 2 if you can't change the dates of your trip. It took me YEARS (and medical help) to get pregnant with DD(5 1/2) and 6 months (without help) for both DS(3 1/2) and DD(will be 20 months next Tueday-we celebrate our 20th anniversary next Wednesday-her older sister was 16 months to the day on our 16th-as an analyst I just love those numbers.....). Of course you're a lot younger than me! That 6 month trip was great but I don't think I could have gone much later. But she was my 3rd baby in 3 1/2 years and I carried her really low and she was sitting on my siatic (sp?) nerve. Good luck!

We went on a Disney trip when I was about 8 weeks pregnant with my first. I was sick every morning. When it came time to eat, I'd think I was starving and order a full meal. As soon as I saw it, I'd get sick again. At those food prices, dh wasn't happy with me!

Other than that and being tired, we did everything but at a relaxed pace. That's up to your doctor and you, of course. We did have a wonderful trip!

Beth

Congrats!!!! I will be 20wks during our Dec trip this year so I can't offer any great words of wisdom just enjoy!

Thanks everyone for the good wishes!
I'm reading how you all tell me I should rest and take a nap and I'm laughing becuase I've been blessed with the most wonderful even tempered happy go lucky baby who never sleeps.
I couldn't ask for a more amazing son than my Patrick but the kid doesn't think sleep is really that necessary. He naps maybe 3 hours a day and at night sleeps maybe 5 or 6 hours. The Ped. says he's healthy so his sleep patterns work for him and I shouldn't worry but I don't get to sleep or nap at all during the day.
I think my down time with him will be going for a swim in the pool with him. He loves to be in the water and I do too so that will be nice for both of us.

I had three babies who didn't know the meaning of the word sleep. They were happy while they were up, but they certainly didn't like to sleep. I always laughed when I read that babies sleep between 18 and 20 hours a day!

They are now three very healthy kids at 5, 11, and 13!

I like your idea of scheduling down time in the pool. Just make it a very relaxed vacation. If your son can stay happy through a leisurely lunch (and you can stand the sight of food), add some into your schedule.

He is so adorable! My 5 year old and 11 year old are in love with his picture.

Have a great trip!

My 20 month old thinks he reaching out just to her! She's not a napper either-will take a 20-30 minute "power nap" in her high chair but she did nap in her stroller at WDW in Jan but she was just shy of 1. Hoping she'll nap a bit this next trip so she won't get too cranky.

My daughter hates sleep too, but I've slowly been getting her to take longer naps, and it's been so helpful for me (and her too). She used to do 1, maybe 2, naps a day, about 45 minutes each at the longest. Now sometimes they'll be as long as an hour each. The only good thing though was that since she sleeps in our bed, I'd lay down with her at naptime until she'd fall asleep and sometimes I'd end up napping with her. Of course, I never got anything done, but when you're on vacation it doesn't matter. So try to nap with your son in WDW during the 3 hours he does nap. I really needed it when I was on vacation while pregnant (at 6, 20 and 28 weeks). Some time in the pool will be relaxing, but I found that even on the days that I was in the pool, I still needed a nap.

I too went on the safari ride at 20 weeks, 3 times, but if you go, ask for the front row, even if you have to wait for it, cause it's much less bumpy. I still asked for the front row when my daughter rode with us at almost 3 and almost 4 months, and she loved the ride too-like riding in a car without being in that restraining carseat!

By the way, people always tell me my daughter doesn't sleep enough (less than 2 hours napping and about 6 hours at night) and to put her to bed earlier. Well I tried that, but then she woke up after 45 minutes like it was a nap and was then up forever, or she'd wake in the middle of the night thinking it was time to be up for the day and play. So we too have accepted the fact that she'll never be a sleeper.

I was down there in my first trimester with my last pregnancy - It was awful only because I had such bad m/s. We took it easy and skipped alot of things because I just wasn't up to it. But you might be different! Congratulations! Be sure to drink plenty of fluid & rest often.

He probabaly would be if he met her. My son LOVES the ladies and he's a HUGE flirt. Especially with older women! He's also a **** man who loves to pull down women's tops. Crazy kid!

Thanks again everyone! You guys are the very very very best and I honestly don't know what I'd do without you!

I went to the Dr. today and he drew blood and I'll know Thursday for sure about if I really truly am pregnant or not. (I'm quite sure that I am)
He put my due date at May 13th which means I'm actually 5 weeks along and not the 2 that I thought!

Congratulations! I have also recently found out I am pregnant with a due date of May 13th. And it looks like we will be at disney the same time. I am excited to be pregnant however we were hoping it wouldnt happen until after Disney. I havent talked to my doctor yet about rides. I am wondering if this early on, we dont need to be as concerned with the thrill rides. I would be interested in hearing what your doctor says. My doctor tends to be more cautious so I know she will tell me to stay off the thrill rides. However, every doctor has different opinions. I always think that if there are some doctors that say it is ok, than it cant really be that bad for you.

I wake up every day praying that the morning sickness will hold off for a couple more weeks. So far so good. With my last 2 pregnancy's, I got pretty sick by about 8 weeks. I should be between weeks 7 and 8 while at disney. Sickness or not, it will definitely be a tough trip with my 1 and 3 year olds to chase around all week.

Renda,
that's great news! Congrats! Funny that we have the same due date!
We will both have to come back and post our reports of our experiences at Disney World while Pregnant!

Congrats both of you! ( renda460 and OP)

I have been to WDW twince while pregnant (and once to VB too.l) Any our last trip Jan 2004 I was 8 weeks pregnant. I saw my Dr. the week before and as my morning sickness was bad already and I had it really bad my 1st pregnancy my Dr. took pitty on me and gave me a new medicaiton called Zofran. It really helped. However the whole time I was at WDW I was feeling good enought that I didn't need it (at home was another story.)

BTW that baby is now almost 7 weeks old and consequently I don't sleep much lately either! Both the medication and the rides at WDW didn't hurt her at all. (the med was good because I was able to eat some and keep some food down, allowing the baby to grow too.)

On the same trip my dear friend who was coming with us found out she was 4 weeks pregnant on the day the left to join us! We are all going again this March 2005, but we will have a 6 month old and a 7 month old along for the ride this time!

At 8 weeks (and all of the 1st trimester) my Dr. said I could do anything I felt up to and ride any ride I wanted to. That trip I did mission space (hey I was already throwing up all the time anyway, but I didn't get sick) and Dinosouar and safari ride. We had a great trip. My key to avoiding m/s is to never let your tummy be empty.

Best of luck

DisneyPHD,
congrats on the new addition! Aren't they amazing?
I think I'll still be staying away from the swoopy rides like Rockin Rollercoaster...I wouldn't have a good time on it not to mention I'd have a VERY angry husband who would tell me that I'm "disruptin' the peanut"
I don't get morning sickness. What I have now is what I had my last pregnancy. I don't want to eat anything. Not because I'm sick, but because nothing appeals to me. I know I have to eat but I just don't want to.
Today all I ate was 1/2 an egg sandwich from Dunkin Donuts 1/4 of a turkey sandwich with nothing but turkey and bread and a slice of pizza for dinner.

You may not need to be as concerned with thrill rides really early on, but if your dr says no, why take that chance? Even if other doctors say it's okay, they are saying that to a specific patient, not to everyone. What might be okay for one pregnant woman may not be the best for another. I did go on the safari ride when I was 20 weeks and the 1st ride we sat in the front row and I was fine, the 2nd time they gave us the back row and it was so bumpy I was holding my belly the whole time and so nervous something would happen. We rode again but asked for the front row since it wasn't a bad ride up there and again I was fine. Had I known that the back was so bumpy I never would have ridden there. That experience was enough to make me stay away from all the other restricted rides. So renda460, I would definitely listen to your own doctor as I'm sure she has her reasons for telling you yes or no to thrill rides. They'll still be there on your next trip, so do what your doctor tells you to, it's the best for the baby.

Thanks DWhittles. I had that a lot with my pregnancy sickness.. Food adversons (to almost everything.) It has the plus side of not gaining massive amounts while pregnant (15 pounds total, but the baby was 7 lbs 6 oz). Belive it or not the Zofran helped with that too. It also helped the other times, genreal nausia and when throwing up was a problem. I am a strange cookie, once I start I can't stop and that was the only thing that would keep me from doing it again and again.

I also found sweet and sour things (lemon drops) helped. My also pregnant friend and I found mayo based things were good comfort food for us (kind of crazy I know!) There was so much good food at WDW we were always eating and could always find something that sounded good while I was there.

I also didn't want to risk it it Rocking Roller coster, TofT or space montain. I might of considered splash montain or even big thunder, but always took DD on something else when other rode those. Mission space is a rather smooth ride, since I had rode it pre-pregnant I knew what to expect and just sat back and enjoyed the ride.

Best of luck I can't imagine being pregnant again when you have a young baby. My DD is now 3 1/2 and the hard part right now isn't the baby, it is the older child. She is pleased as punch to have a baby sister, but the tranistion is hard. The good news is your kids will be very close and always have a playmate.

BTW water rides slides where you enter the water feet first are to be avoided at all stages of the pregnancy. Not because of the ride, but then entery into the water, can fource water in causing problems (to avoid details). I did the mini kiddy slide at vero beach holding DD because she was scared when I was 26 weeks pregnant. I hit the ground with a thud and the baby kicked me back for the next hour. I wasn't thinking about being pregnant, just about my 1st DD wanting me to hold her because she was scared.

Best of luck I can't imagine being pregnant again when you have a young baby.

Quite frankly, NEITHER CAN I!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know I'm in for a bumpier ride than any roller coaster or thrill ride can give me.
I'm excited too though. (I think)
