Disney World while Pregnant

Congrats Renda and DWhittles !

I just found out that I am 4 weeks pg, too. As you can see by the ticker...we are going down in a month and I was getting a bit worried about what I can and can't do. My DH will be at a conference every morning and my DS (age 4) and I will be on our own to do the parks.

Now mind you, I do not do thrill rides ever. I am the one that handles the spinning ones like the tea-cups and DH does the coasters. DS will want to ride anything he is tall enough to get on.

I've been reading this thread trying to determine what to go on with him and what to wait for DH.

I went to WDW in my second trimester during my 1st and 3rd pregnancies. I didn't go on ANY rides. I like to shop, so I browsed a lot while DH enjoyed the rides. My 2nd pregnancy, I miscarried at 10 weeks. I had not done anything risky at all, and it was determined that the baby had a chromosome abnormality, but if I HAD done anything risky, I would probably be blaming myself to this day, and it's been 6 years. I'm also and OB nurse, so I've seen all the problems that pregnancy can bring. I'm not trying to sound rude, but if you love your baby, you can forgo the rides on this one vacation just to be on the safe side. The magic of disney is in the environment, not the rides. You can enjoy yourself just as much by just being there, and look forward to your next trip when you can take your baby on the rides.

sskem96, I am very sorry for your loss. I know that can be very difficult. However I think you are taking an extreme view on this that can be hurtful to others. Women can love their unborn children and go on the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and Dumbo, HM, and many many other rides with out the guilt and worring about hurting them.

I agree, don't take unnessasry risks, but minor rides at WDW are not risky. With this view, don't fly, drive in a car or even leave your house for that mater. The best thing to do is talk with your Dr. and follow his advice. Don't do anything that you are not comfortable with. As my Dr. said, pregnancy is not an illness.

I can see how being an OB nurse can make you overly careful. Seeing what can happen when thing go wrong is terrible. I am a clinical social worker, and belive me I have seen the good and lots of the bad with familes and children. (for years I worked as a suppervisor with families with specail need children, I aslo speicalize in working with people who are deaf.) That made me concerned with having children of my own, but I have enough sense to know just because it can happen, doesn't mean it will and to not let myself worry about it.

COngrats! My wife was in her second at Dis...very bieginnings of the second though and she went on most of the safer rides like the kiddie ones (peter pan, small world, pirates, etc...) She enjoyed it immensely...just remember to take an afternoon nap or you'll crash around 5-6pm. That's what happened with us!

I went when I was 4 months pregnant with twins. I couldn't ride the rollercoater rides but video taped my husband and son. I did get discouraged at Animal Kingdom. It got to the point what can I do. I did the Safari (against the warning sign). Like I said there wasn't much I could do. It was the bumpy paths that get to you. I had to sit with my arms holding my butt up from the seat. I was just happy to be experiencing something with my family. I also found myself addicted to the fruit cups. Had to have several a day. Stay hydrated. Good luck on a great trip and a healthy delivery.

First, congratulatons on your wonderful news! I have seen posts like this before and have never responded because I know that every pregnancy is different and I don't want to cast gloom on anyones happy time, however, if the ride says don't go if you are pregnant, please listen. I had a miscarriage at Disney on my first day; I had not gone on any rides, just gone to our room to rest and then had a light tea and a short swim at the GF where we were staying. I know you can't live life in a bubble but not going to WDW for my next pregnancy did not seem like such a bad thing, knowing that the next year we could be taking our girl (and we did and it was wonderful and she is wonderful and I am truly blessed!). It was definitely the right decision for us. I always think about our first baby though, especially on his due date, and I feel a little bit like if I had not gone, that he would be here with me today and I know that that pain will never really go away. I'm not saying don't go, just please be careful with your precious little one. (Come on, Spalsh Mountain is seriously overrated! Yeah right - guess what ride we went on first with the baby swap!)
Again, my very best wishes to you for your health and happiness!

Alysa,
I understand where you're coming from. I haven't every had a m/c but my ds was born early. Even though that had nothing to do with our trip to WDW when I was 8 weeks, I know when anything bad happens in your pregnancy, you can't help but think about what you were doing and wonder if you had done things differently if things would be different. I think with this type of experience comes a wisdom that some people will (hopefully) never know.

I'm happy to see you went on to have a healthy pregnancy and have a wonderful dd now. Just wanted to say there is someone who relates.

The trip went great for everyone. I stayed healthy and never experienced any morning sickness. I craved (and still crave) things with tomato sauce so we did a great deal of Italian dining but my son had a blast and we had a great time too. I went on the gentle rides and avoided the roller coaster type stuff.
Thanks guys for all the great advice!
Diana
