Looking to travel in the less busy/less expensive fall time. I am hoping for October of next year, but have a concern. My family visited there a few years ago in October and it was very crowded due to school breaks from the southern states. Can anyone give me any directions? If I stay away from Columbus Day am I ok?

Thanks for your help.

We were there the third weekend of Oct 07 and the crowds weren't really bad at all. If you do go in Oct I highly recommend the MNSSHP!

I'm looking at my school district's calendar for 08-09 (my kids go to School in SC) and nope--they have school on Columbus Day.

I can't remember ever having that day off, so it must be a Fla thing.

We're going in October, too. Have fun!

We are thinking of going October 18 - 27. Is that during hurricane season? Can you October experts tell me what to expect for weather and crowds?

TIA

were going october 31- november 8 my mom said its nice weather and not to crowed cause thats when there setting up for the christmas fun:santa:

I am going Oct 23-29th and am figuring on the crowds being pretty low. I know that some schools get a fall break but I would think that would be around Columbus Day/ the 2nd week or so of the month.

I think if you plan for the very beginning or the end of the month you will be fine, with the exception of the 31st which may be busy.

And if you are there the 23-29th look for a crazy lady wearing a pink tiara and recklessly driving a scooter with several other crazy DIS ladies!:dance3:

i was there for heri. wilma, it was a cat 3 by the time it got to us. it was no big deal. we were at okw and they close the parks at 9pm and were told to bring in the furn. on the patio and it blew in over night, and by 11am the next day the sun was out and the parks were open. there hotels are built of cement and steel, your about as safe as anywere. we go in october evey other year, its warm, not to humid and the crowds arent bad. we will be there this year from the 7th to the 18th. :thumbsup2

OK Florida ressie here-hurricane season is June - November FYI. It is most severe Sept - Nov.....October is a funny month-especially now with the free dining given out in the fall. It gets crowded especially weekends. There is school breaks and MNSSHP which is very popular. If you can hold off-wait til the 1st week in November-crowds are less and the weather very pleasant. If you cant hold off book early in October. The later the month-the closer to halloween. Columbus day here is not a day off for public schools-that is a northern thing. But we do have 2 days in October for teacher conferences. Each district down here has a different date. Good Luck hope this helped.

We are heading there in October for the first time as well!

I can't wait!

I would like to hear all of your thoughts as well!

I love October @ WDW. Last year, we had a little rain (don't forget to hit the Dollar Store and stock up on cheapie ponchos and you'll be all set). The Halloween/Harvest decorations were well done (of course:goodvibes ). We just followed the suggestion of TGM and the UG for help on which park to visit which day and had a grand ol' time.:hippie: Enjoy planning and enjoy your trip!

I'm so glad I came across this thread. We just got back from WDW on 5/7 and it was a great time to go. Low crowds and awesome weather. Did the P&PP on 5/2. We used TGM as well and knew which parks to hit on which days so that helped. Anyway, we are planning on going back for the MNSSHP of October 2009. I would think this is a good time to go as far as weather. Not too worried about crowds as long as I follow TGM or UG advice.

We went October 5-10 in 2005. Our only problem was the humidity! It was awful. There would be women hiding in the restrooms just to be in air-conditioning :rotfl2: We always go late-November, early-December and LOVE the weather. We were worried about going in April just now, but it was wonderful. We want to go back in Oct. for our anniversary (20th!!!), but the humidity is frightening us away.

My family and I are going October 15th-22nd!! :cool1: Although we've never been to Disney World around this time, we were told (by seasoned Disney travelers!) that it's generally a good time to go as far as crowds and weather. I hope they were right!

We will be there the 12-18. I'll be looking for ya!:wave2:

I always love October! Crowds aren't bad and weather is usually great. We'll be there the 11th - 18th. I can't wait.....:cool1:

I'm going 10/13 - 10/18. Here is my question. Disney doesn't consider that as a low-crowd week, which I'm assuming is because Columbus Day is that Monday, 10/13. But just because people have that 3-day weekend, should the whole week be crowded?

MK is open until 11PM that Friday night... Should I expect a huge crowd there that day?

I just would have never though a random week in the middle of October would be so busy...

Cause of work, we went on '01, '05 & '06 in October. In '03 we went in Nov. Best was Nov. But October was not bad at all...

Crowd wise, all trips were Sunday thru Friday. No problem at all. Low crowds all the time. Last trip on Sunday I took my DS to Universal (he wanted to see the BTTF ride). It was DEAD. 2nd in line. When I asked why, they said most locals go to church on Sunday morning... At noon it picked up there...

DW was with younger DS at MK and they also had a great time...

Of course, if the weather is nice, locals go to the parks on weekends...

We went on our first family trip 10/21-10/26 of 2006. Weather was unseasonably cold--60's daytime and 40's at night. We were soooo not prepared for that. But crowds were very light except for MNSSHP. This year we went 4/1-4/7 --rain, rain, and more rain. Crowds were horrendous. I don't mean to sound like I'm complaining--it's really what you make of it. We had a GREAT trip both times. We might try Christmas next year.

We usually go in October or the first week of November in order to beat the crowds and enjoy the Food & Wine Festival. It's a great time to go to the World.
