My wife and I are in our sixtys and have been taking our children and grandchildren to disney world all of their lives. We live in louisiana and with the childrens schedules and the grandchildrens school schedules we fly down to orlando,fl. We have stayed on disney world grounds many times and booked two rooms to accommodate our family and really needed three rooms. Our two daughters and three grandchildren are the members of our family that travels with my wife and I to Disney World. Our daughters husbands have not been able over the years to get away and travel with their familys because of job and buisness situations. Our daughters husbands work many hours and days to keep their homes running. All of our family loves Disney World and this why we do our best to make it a family vacation. Today my wife ask me, why don't Disney World give grandparents some kind of a discount for bringing their children and grandchildren to Disney World. I must say that was a real good question, but I just didnot have an answer. That evening I sat at my desk and started running some figures down with the cost of our vacation to Disney World this november 2010. Our Disney World vacation cost in nov,2010 was at $ 8,775 dollars and no souvenirs or toys added. This is flights, rental home, tickets, food and rental van. I believe in my heart that there is someway that Disney World could give all of us grandparents that take their children and grandchildren to Disney World a discount of some kind. I ask all of the grandparents out there that feel the way my wife and I do about Discounts for Grandparents to email back and support us and just maybe a little magic dust may fall. Are you getting a room only discount or the free dining promotion? If not, call and see if the free dining promotion can be applied to your reservation or see if you have a PIN code attached to your name. I would expect a room only discount to become available for fall dates sometime soon.

As for a discount just for grandparents, I'm not sure that I understand why you think WDW should give just grandparents discounts? Lots of families could use a discount. And there are discounts available often. You just have to look for them.:goodvibes

It seems they might as well run discounts for blonde-hair OR people who drive Fords OR people who drink Diet Coke. Honestly, I'd much rather have general discounts for all. Disney frequently offers discounts through PIN codes and to the general public.

I really don't know what is so special about "Grandparents". (I love mine, but COME ON!)

Sorry, Charlie! I'm not seeing that one!:rotfl:

Respectfully, Disney is offering some very good discounts for EVERYONE this fall. I am not sure why Grandparents should be singled out for discounts as every "group" would like a discount and it sounds like WDW has answered that call. Right now they are offering free dining for those that book packages onsite. I also saw some discounts for those that live in neighboring states. If it is other discounts you are looking for perhaps signing up for a newsletter like mousesavers would help you.

Here is a link to current Disney specials for everyone. If if works out better to get a place onsite instead of renting a home, Free Dining is offered.

For arrival dates from 8/15-10/7/10, 10/22-10/28/10, 11/12-11/18/10, 11/27-12/2/10, and 12/10-12/21/10.

Perhaps there might be something available for your trip timeline. I'm not sure if any free dining packages would be available for them, but it seems the Family Suites at All Star Music might be a good option. It seems it will be 4 adults and 3 kids? Or perhaps even two hotel rooms at a moderate?

The other discounts seem to end October 2nd, but keep checking the page, never know when another might come out or get extended.

Also, if you stay onsite, you may not need the rental van. You can use Disney's Magical Express free to and from the airport (if flying into MCO...Orlando).

If Disney offers a grandparent discount, then I think they should also offer a single mom discount.:woohoo:

How much of that $8,775 is going to Disney? You're staying off site and renting a van. So the only money that Disney gets will be tickets, some meals and some souvenirs.

When we go to WDW, We spend all of our time and money there. (Stay on site, eat all meals on site, fully loaded tickets, all souvenir shopping is done on site) I believe in my heart that there is someway that Disney World could give all of us single parents (and pepsi drinkers) that take their children to Disney World a discount of some kind.:laughing:

If they offer a Single Mom Discount... then they have to offer a Single Daddy Discount!

How about people who take their grandparents to WDW???? We are taking (paying for) our whole family next year: 4 generations of people! It's going to cost a fortune, but I'm going to try to use every discount I can find! lol.

I do think that they offer enough discounts to accomodate all families. I do not think that grandparents need a "special" discount. My mom takes me, my sister and our children to WDW every year without our spouses. I am sure that she would love a discount, but then she would not be able to use the discount with the other discounts, which actually work out better. If you stay on site you would not have to pay for a rental van. There is magical express. We usually do rent a van so I know how costly they can be. That right there could be your discount. If you stayed at a value resort during the value season, well you would be saving a bundle there. Those resorts do cost less than some non property hotels. If you get the deal with the free dining, then you would also be saving on food.

How would they be able to distinguish if someone was actually a grandparent?

Thanks for the feedback on discounts for grandparents. I truly didnot want to single out grandparents over anyone else for discounts to Disney World. Please excuse me if I did. What we were trying to relay in this message was all of the grandparents we have spoken to at Disney World that was there with their grandchildren. Some of these grandparents were with their grandchildren because of a death of a parent or parents. Another reason we have been told by grandparents they were taking the grandchildren and children to to Disney World is the expense. Some young parents just don't have the money to afford a vacation to Disney World, so thank god this is where the Grandparents come in. I donot in any way think grandparents should get any better deal than anyone else, but lets be honest large numbers of children and grandchildren would never have the dream of visiting Disney World without the financial help of the Grandparents. Lets not forget some Grandparents are on fixed incomes and are having hardtimes to make ends meet. So this is why maybe a little Disney magic dust may fall on the Grandparents. LOL - this has got to be either a joke, or a troll.

MANY kids go to WDW without the help of grandparents. I have been about 20 times and all 4 of my grandparents had passed away by the time I was born. I should get a discount for the fact that I never had any grandparents who took me to WDW.:lmao:

I bet their are just as many single parents visiting WDW as their are grandparents.

Let's not forget some single parents are on fixed incomes and are having a hard time making ends meet.

Not visiting WDW as a child isn't the end of the world. I was 33 when I took my first trip to WDW.

Many many people are struggling to make ends meet right now. Not just grandparents. My state of Michigan is the bottom of the economic barrel right now. Should we all get a discount?

Sorry to sound so harsh, but please remember going to Disney World is not a right, it is a luxury. I think most of us who go give up something somewhere else to be able to afford it.

Disney releases many discounts. Grandparents are more than welcome to take advantage of any of the general public discounts. But I don't think they deserve one of their very own. Sorry.

Um YA, my parents have the money to take us adult children and their grandchildren to disney... But ya thats not gonna happen!:lmao::confused: I would never even ask! They did their duty...they took me as a kid, now I am taking my own kids... and they've been alot. Of course the grandparents could go with us if they want, but they still aren't going to pay our way! :confused3 I would never expect or ask for it. Disney offers everything from super deluxe to value... Grandparents being the only reason people go to disney? Please... Don't pat yourself on the back... We have worked very hard as most of this board does to get our kids to disney,

OP--The only thing you purchased from Disney for your last trip was tickets and some food I would think. The rental home was not Disney, neither were the airline tickets or the rental car. Did any of those businesses give you a grandparent discount? Most likely not.

I don't understand why you singled Disney out for your wrath.

My mom paid for 2 Disney trips for my family in the past, and I paid for 1 of hers - and neither one of us could have afforded those trips except we sacrificed other things to be able to go. My mom is 70 years old and still works 30 hours a week. She could have retired and lived on her fixed income, but has chosen to remain in the workforce because she wants to be able to responsibly afford the things she wants to do.

I think Disney should give her a free trip because she just asked if she could pay for DD19's MIT tuition this semester! Actually, she wants to take us all to WDW soon, but DD19 doesn't have the same time off as we do, except Christmas week which is crazy expensive and crazy crowded.

dude, youre not even staying on disney property. so what do you want a discount on?
