Disney World gift card?

A question for the Disney gurus out there.

My parents are headed to the World sans-kids for the first time since 1974, and my siblings and I wanted to buy them a gift to mark the occasion. We were hoping to get them a gift card that they could use at on-site restaurants (my dad, being the original Frugally McFrugalpants, is unlikely to go for anything other than counter service on his own...we were hoping this way, they might be able to eat someplace nice, too. ) I found information elsewhere on this website about such a card, but I am unable to find a list of participating restaurants/stores...just a vague "accepted at select stores/restaurants" sort of blurb. So my question is...does anyone know how widely accepted these things are? Are they accepted at the sit-down places or just the counter services? Or should I give up on the gift card idea and just hand them cash? (sniff but there are no mickeys on cash sniff sniff) Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

They seem to be brand new, just started Aug. 1, according to this article on allearsnet.com:

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Walt Disney World Resort is introducing a Shopping & Dining Gift Card that allows guests to conveniently treat gift-recipients to Disney dining and shopping experiences.

The cards can be purchased with $5 to $1,500 of value -- for use at select Walt Disney World merchandise and food and beverage locations. The cards are available at select merchandise and food and beverage locations throughout Walt Disney World Resort beginning Aug 1.

You may have to wait a few weeks to get some consumer feedback. I wonder if you e-mailed Disney about it, whether they could give you more info?

You could always go to your local Disney Store and get them Disney Dollars. They have characters on them, depending on the dollar value. And they are very cute. I bought some for our last trip, and I didn't want to spend them b/c they looked so awesome!

We have purchased Disney Gift Cards at the Disney Store(you decide value 5-1500) it says Shop, Dine and Play at WDW and DL, also can be used at DisneyShopping online and Disney Store in US, dine at select Downtown Disney restaurants and for on DCL.
