Our family will be taking a Family Vacation to Disney World the week of June 16 - 22, 2013. We have 6 adults and 8 children ranging in age from 15 - 3 months. We have reservations at the Art of Animation already secured. I want to make this the Family Vacation of a Lifetime. Any suggestions? Any ideas? I know there is a ton of things to do, but if anyone has any suggestions on how to make this memorable and magical, I would love to hear from you! Ten of our party of 14 have never been before! :dance3:

What is the makeup of your party?

I had a party of 9 one time and frankly it was a disaster. That included me and my husband, my two sisters with their husbands, and their 3 kids.

The big thing is that the newbies don't understand.

I tried to set ADRs and my family assumed I had an unhealthy obsession with food. I couldn't get to step B because they refused to get past step A. Plus, I was too set in my ways to skip step A (ADRs).

The biggest tip is to make sure that their trip is to their liking. In hindsight, we should have all had our own trips where we met for dinner every night at a counter service restaurant, off property, or at a hastily made last minute ADR.

Also, BEWARE they may have a thing for going OFF PROPERTY. :confused3

With that said, one of my sisters swore never to return to WDW, while the other sister now really enjoys taking her kids to Disney and are very happy we showed them the ropes.

We took my brother and his partner during Christmas and New Years week!

My brother who is extremely OCD/ADD didn't think "planning" was necessary and laughed at me and my itinerary and reservations. However, after the first day in the park they got the picture fast!

Within days 4 of the 7 got the flu and one-by-one dropped like flies. Having said that, everyone carried on without the sicklies until they got back into their groove. The nice thing about Disney is even in your room your are in Magic Land!!! The resort restaurant brought chicken noodle soup, sprite, medicines, etc. If someone got better while the others were out....they just phoned us up and met us at the park. That's the great thing about Disney transportation, security, service, etc. On some vacations that would have stopped everyone in their tracks!!!

We all had a great time, if a group wanted to split up we do. Use your plans and then adjust it as you go. We had great reservations at themed restaurants and everyone loved the atmosphere and food so don't sweat it.

If someone wants to party poop, let them go their poopee way :dance3:

I have been with groups of around 20 (all family) we found it easiest to make reservations together, and we would just meet up for meals, and break up into groups (usually by family) for most of the day, we always started the day together, and did the first couple of attractions together, and would just end up separating after a couple. It can become hard to do a lot of things while trying to please everyone in the group.

I just returned from a trip with 14. We had some blow ups but also some really great times. We're already planning for next year.
Before you go you should all get together and decide where you want to eat and plan what days to visit what park. Keep in mind when with a large group everything takes longer. We decided next year we would plan an individual family day when we go to MK and meet up for lunch. MK was hard with a big group.
