Disney World Employees Picket Park

The four seasons franchisees insisted on lower rates in the post 9/11 travel fallout...the company said no - sighting brand erosion and the cut in services that would have to follow with revenue down.

It took them into bankruptcy...but that line in the sand was enough to get Bill Gates and the Saudi involved.

yeah, they've built too many...but when they had the choice of financials over brand...damn the numbers...they picked brand.

So what you are saying is by choosing brand it failed and became a takeover target. Right?

International College Program (ICP's) and regular CP's which are being used to reduce permanent roles with benefits, it could be argued that they are doing something similar they are just not being as transparent and open about it.

Touchdown...

The college program is a complete hoax...it works out to be sub-miniumum wage labor with no benefits...

And the "disney" line on the resume at least gave kids something recognizable and good to perhaps distinguish themselves...

but how much longer will that last? is the word not eventually going to get out? And let's face it: there isn't enough jobs anyway.

Ex-CPs often do what alot of people my age did: move back to orlando, work ridiculous hours and tasks to make ends meet, toil as entry level management or hourly supervisors, get frustrated cause the pay is still too low and there is no hope for advancement or compensation based on performance....and get frustrated and leave.

Not good for business...just the balance sheet

So what you are saying is by choosing brand it failed and became a takeover target. Right?

What i'm saying is that it failed based on bad decisions (overexpansion being one) and from the strain placed on it during the worst travel downturn in the history of travel (because travel only really got to this level fairly recently)

I see your point...there are different things involved...but disney is going too overboard with bucks over brand.

newsflash..i know...but stock price is not a good indicator of where disney stands because in a media company...you can start to lose your footing and not have it immediately impact the advertising, sales, movies, tv, etc...but if the erosion is significant it could cause huge damage that will cost more in the longterm to fix than just putting more value back into the product today.

That's how i see it.

Besides...i weep not for those who buy up chunks of disney then log on everyday to see if they have "made" more (myself included)

We aren't actually earning or working for that money...its just gravy. And buy that i mean that we have become too "investment" oriented and not enough mechanical labor centered....it's going to kill our economy and way of life if we don't start to build again instead of talking on a blackberry and yes...running off to disneyworld all the time.

The reality is Disney needs their CM's and If everyone who was living below the poverty line moved elsewhere to find a better paying job Disney would have to close its gates as there wouldn't be enough people left to run it so obviously the Company and its workers both have the survival of the company in their own interests.

This is the answer, Im very conservative and not the CEO of even a thousand dollar company. I dislike unions and also dislike large corporations. With that qualification I submit.

Let Disney keep exploiting its workers.. thats their perogative Eventually their labor pool will dry up and these workers will either move away or will avoid Disney all together. In this case Disney will either decide that they need to modify their labor relations or close up shop. Its not for an outside group to tell Disney what they can and cannot afford, its none of their business. Let the laws of Supply and Demand work... I swear it does work!
