Hello, please forgive me if this has already been asked. I just read on another website that DW is getting rid of the Value, Moderate and Deluxe labels and pricing and are going to convert the pricing to things such as distance to the parks. Has anyone heard anything about this? I’m planning a honeymoon trip in 2020 and would like to stay at Port Orleans FQ, if I can still afford it...
Thanks!!

Mods, feel free to move this to the news and rumor page.

Yes, I have been hearing this for a while now. Once the refurbishments at Pop, All Stars, and the Skyliner are complete the current categories will go away. They will change to location based categories.

Thanks for the reply. I’m not sure if it’s going to be worth staying on site

If the prices are raised to the point where there is no such thing as a value or moderately priced resort.

I don't think the names of the categories or whether or not the categories exist will directly impact prices. Disney will charge whatever the market will bear, and All Star is still going to cost less than Contemporary (as an example) no matter what the categories are called. I think this is more about the distinction between what those three categories means is getting more blurry and less meaningful, and will continue to as transportation options evolve.

Because of change in the category names? :confused3

I think it's more "we are going to charge whatever for whatever and that will be that" more than "location based."

I think we will see the prices go up just like we've already seen some high rates for POP this year.

I think they are going to throw out there the location like they do now, Monorail resorts, Epcot resorts and "the amenities" and play up some things that are extras. Values now have queens. CBR, POP and AOA now have a gondola. If they build the rumored TS in the middle of Allstars that will be their plus. CSR getting the rooftop dining on the new tower plus all their other dining options. POR and POFQ have the boat to Disney Springs and you can swim at either pool. AKL has all the animals. And so on ........... They will try to make all these things special amenities to each resort and push the rate to the highest point they feel will be paid. We won't know them as categories, which will essentially mean we will know them by their bestest amenity .... and the room rates may vary much more than they do now without the "levels".

I think the values will be a good bit more than they have been once each resort is complete including amenity. :sad1:

I have been hearing this rumor for a while now, makes sense especially with the skyliner.

I’m afraid you are right. But in spite of value pluses it’s still a value resort, tiny rooms, not the same landscaping or nice pools of other resort categories. And same ugly buildings. As another poster said, you can put lipstick on it but it still is what it is. And Disney is taking any excuse to raise price of anything they can.

YUP. As is the case with all the Disney resorts if you go dollar for dollar in the real world. Disney spends money on the grounds, the landscape, sometimes the lobby, the main pools, maybe dining ................ but the rooms are never up to par with their cost. So when POP is just under $200 and I compare it to what I can get just a couple miles away or even around the corner ............... if I'm going to spend that much I won't be at POP.

I just picked dates the weekend before 4th of July ... POP $189 vs Embassy Suites SOUTH $184 but it is a two room nicely decorated suite almost twice the size of a POP room, two queen beds, sofabed in living room, microwave and fridge in kitchenette, interior door, huge hot breakfast buffet that is excellent even cooked to order omelets and eggs, evening reception with beer, wine, mixed drinks and snacks. If I leave a park at closing I can be back to my hotel before I can get a bus and be back to POP. Disney is making this very easy for me with the prices.

I think they've been moving this way for a while, in the sense that the resorts are increasingly individually priced rather than having relatively level pricing across the value and moderate tiers. And if you think about it deluxe pricing was always location-based - Wilderness Lodge has never cost what the monorail MK resorts cost, and Animal Kingdom Lodge has always been cheaper than the monorail and Boardwalk resorts. And it was bound to happen - they're not going to keep Pop or CBR pricing on par with the All Stars or POR once the Skyliner is complete and gives those resorts easier access to the parks.

One good thing about the new Resort "classifications"(I think it is when, not if)is the term "Value Resort" will finally go away!

"Value Resort" just gives the "impression" to many that they are of the quality of a Motel 6,etc. which has never been the case.

Aren’t they kinda priced by distance now? Obviously room size etc has some to do with it, but the resorts closest to MK are by far the most expensive and the two nearest Epcot are right under the MK resorts in price.

In all reality. We can complain till we are blue in the face about the raise in prices etc., but we, myself included, keep going. Why would they stop raising prices when they have people like us still paying and going?

Isn't that basically happening right now? If you look at the location of the deluxe resorts they tend to be located in "prime" spots that allow you to get to some parks fairly easily (just by walking in many cases). The moderates are a bit more spread out and the values are on the periphery of property. The deluxe that are more distant to most parks (AKL and SSR) are typically priced less than the other deluxe resorts.
