Disney World Before or After Cruise

I think we are going to aim to go to the park before the cruise this time.

Typically, what time can you leave the resort to arrive at the port?

If you're traveling via DCL transfers, the busses generally pick up at the resorts sometime in the 10:45-12:30 window, arriving at the port between 12:00-3:00.

If you're driving yourself, or using private transfers, the port opens at 10:30. It takes about an hour from WDW to port.

If you are taking the DCL transfers which are $35 pp each way they typically leave anywhere from 11:30 to about 1:00 depending on the resort and how many people are getting on the bus at each resort. They they can pick up from more than one resort. You will receive a letter telling you the time to have your luggage ready to go (about 8:00 am) and when/where to meet the bus.

Or, you can do a one way car rental and arrive anytime after the port opens (11:00 am) or another option is a towncar service.

We seem to be in the minority, since regardless of cruise length, we try to do at least 3 or 4 days at the parks before & after (depending on our schedules) with our cruise in the middle. Kinda of like a "Cruise Sandwich". Since we have an 11 hour drive , it work best for us.

This is what we are doing.

2 nights at Disney - 4 night cruise - 2 more nights at Disney

WDW first, no question. WDW first is great cause everyone's pumped up and read for vacation & the go go go. After WDW you start feeling the need of space from the family, you need to relax, you're sick of paying... & going on the cruise fixes all of that. On the cruise you can have alone time, family time, date night, etc. You leave for home much more relaxed & not ready to KILL your entire family. Or is that just me???

This year we are doing 4 nights before cruise for mnsshp & DC, cruise 7 days, then 2 more days at wdw for mvmcp. I can't wait!!!

I chose to do 4 days at WDW and then 3 days at universal AFTER our 7 day western Caribbean cruise this Oct/Nov! I couldn't see spending all that money to fly from Canada, and not slip a visit in to my favourite place in the world!! I am glad I booked for after because now I'll still have something to look forward to after I leave the ship! ( it's our first cruise and just DH and I celebrating our 25 anniversary). I couldn't imagine the depression and sadness I'd feel if I knew we where flying home right after disembarkation! I want to make the magic last and this way by the time we are done we may just be READY to leave after 2 weeks of Disney!

We are doing 3 days at the parks beforehand and then a 4 night cruise. Since we did the main parks (MK, Epcot, HS) last year, this time we are focusing on spending time at the resort (AKL), Blizzard Beach and maybe one casual day at MK.

Personally I like to visit WDW before my cruise when catching a cruise out of Port Canaveral. Although I always enjoy my time at WDW I feel I get more attention and feel more special on a cruise so I like to savor that feeling instead of reversing it (hopefully this makes sense).

I cannot find this topic on the boards, so I was wondering what people's opinions were about going to Disney World... Before or After cruise.

My family and I have always gone on the Disney cruise and then went to Disney World for the rest of the weekend. Last time, I noticed that my parents were a bit tired at Disney World.

Any opinions?

WDW first have done it both ways and will never do WDW after a cruise again.

We like to go to WDW for a few days before our cruise, and then a couple days after. I can see how an entire week at WDW could tire you out, but a couple extra days there make getting off the ship so much easier!

Ditto. We've been on three cruises out of Port Canaveral, and have always gone to WDW before and afterwards.

Our reason for going before is because I don't like to fly in too close to the cruise in case of travel delays. (For instance, on our first cruise, our flight was canceled, and we had didn't arrive until the next day. Fortunately, we had a couple of days of cushion, and only lost a day at WDW.)

Our reason for going afterwards is that I couldn't bear the thought being in Florida on a Thursday morning (for the 4-night cruises) or a Saturday morning (for the 7-night cruises), and just flying home when I can go to WDW for a few days. Also, it helps lessen the post-cruise blues.

We live near Disneyland in California and we go to the parks there all the time and all the walking is pretty tiring! I figured Disney World would be just as tiring, maybe more! So I planned the cruise after so we can kick back and relax after the WDW excitement.

WDW before, definitely. But an extra night after the cruise as a half way between cruising and being back in the real world is ideal for us.

WAY more tiring/walking, but you will have a blast!

We always do WDW second due to schedule, but I think WDW first is a better idea. You get tired doing WDW and can relax on the cruise.
