Disney Won't Let Me Reschedule

I just called to push out trip back a day (we are supposed to arrive on the 7th). We are driving from NJ and I am concerned about driving into an unsafe situation with the flooding expecting in FL. I thought by pushing our trip back a day that it would be safer for us and free up a much needed room in Disney for someone else. It would also keep one more car out of the area while others are trying to get home.

Disney says NO. They are not allowed to move my trip but they would not penalize us if we could not make it until Wed. (no offer of a refund for the 1st night which includes UPHs).

I understand that there are greater worries than a vacation (we have family in Cocoa and Cape Coral) but I am trying to do what little I can to help and keep my family safe. The CM was annoyed at me because I couldn't understand the reasoning of this (yes I was very polite). She even suggested that we drive straight through to make our Tues. ressies. I know some of you do this but with the uncertainty of the weather we don't feel this is a wise choice.

I know others who said Disney was very helpful and rescheduled with no problem - should I call and talk to someone else?

Please don't flame me for worrying over a vacation while others lives are in the balance. I just want to do what's best for all concerned.

I would call back and talk to someone else, ask for a supervisor if they will not help.

I second DebbieB's response, I would call back and ask for a supervisor.

Suspect WDW expects the weather (and situation) to improve significantly by Monday/Tuesday so are limiting the cancellation policy to the time they think the storm will be directly affecting the area. If things change in the next few days, you may see Disney stretching the time their current "no cost cancellation/change" policy covers. And who knows, by Monday when you're scheduled to leave, things in Florida may be much better! (we can only hope:D ) I'd play things by ear and plan as if the weather WILL improve and you can leave as planned. Take another look at things Sunday night/Monday morning and check again with them if at that time you feel it's not safe to go. It's a bit early now to say that Tuesday will be a problem..... although it may be in the end (BUT WE HOPE NOT!!!)
Hope you get to go and have fun!

Thanks for the replies - I needed to vent. I will call back a little later but I can't wait to see what happens Sunday. We are driving from NJ and need to leave Sunday morning if we have to be there by Tuesday!

When you call back, don't mention you've talked to someone else. Just start over. Good luck!

I would also be concerned about being able to get gasoline for the car if youre driving in... mention it to the cm and see what the response is...

You might want to explain that just because it will be out of Florida you will stil have to drive through it as it makes its way north.

Just to give you an update. I called Disney again. They are now routing their calls to Texas - people are alot less frassled there. They were able to push my ressies back one day with no problem and no penalties.

Can't believe what a difference. Now I am just concerned that I will get lost in all the changes people are making. I might call back later just to confirm the changes.

Thanks everyone.

THat sounds more like the answer I would have expected you to hear. I hope things have calmed down by Wednesday and you can have a good trip

No flames--call back and ask for a Supervisor--one day out of their current relaxed schedule is not enough time. You will also be driving back with all the evacuees.

Also--keep in mind--the airports will take several days to catch up their schedules--what would they do if MCO was still closed due to damage? Certainly not tell people they can't get a partial refund.

Good luck!

Thanks "Lisa Loves Pooh" (by the way this "Lisa Loves Eeyore"). They told me it would be the same confirmation number. I'm just a little nervous going down their with no paperwork to confirm the change. I am feeling better about the trip but I am still very concerned for all the people who will be hurt by this storm.

We all need to say a prayer that Frances moves along (preferably out to sea!).

Lisa, This is the forecast for Frances. If she travels along this path I think you will be fine driving down. Except for the traffic. Wishing you a safe and great trip. We'll be there next Monday (fingers crossed).

Just sitting here watching tree limbs break and trees come down. But otherwise we are safe. We still have power (thank god) though my parents don't.

Wishing Frances would hurry up and get out of here. She is a slow walker. Praying everything and everyone stays safe.

We drove down to WDW last month, leaving the Saturday morning (3:30 AM!) after Charley hit Florida that Friday night. We met up with Charley near Raleigh, NC. Make sure you have local radio stations on in your vehicle as you drive down. It made all the difference in the world to us - we had to head west at one point because they were predicting tornadoes on I95 and eastward Saturday.

Have a safe drive, and a great time at WDW! By the time we got down there (Sunday evening) all of WDW was cleaned up, except for two trees at MGM that were near the sorcerer's hat - they were down, but cut up, with just the stumps half stuck in the soil. Everything else was picture perfect! Hopefully WDW, Orlando (and the rest of Florida) make it through safely this time.

Schmeck, keeping everyone involved in my thoughts and prayers tonight!
