Disney to build Hawaii resort

Luxury family resort planned for Ko Olina Resort & Marina on the island of Oahu.

BURBANK, Calif., October 3, 2007 - Walt Disney Parks & Resorts has announced that the company has finalized plans to purchase 21 acres of oceanfront property on Hawaii's island of Oahu.

The property, located on the island's western side in the picturesque Ko Olina Resort & Marina, Honolulu's premier resort destination, will be home to Disney's first mixed-use family resort outside of its theme park developments. The expansive resort, scheduled to open in 2011, is planned to have more than 800 units, including hotel rooms and Disney Vacation Club villas.*

"This resort hotel will give our Guests another way to visit an exciting part of the world with a brand they trust," said Jay Rasulo, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts. "In fact, Hawaii has been among our most requested Disney Vacation Club getaway locations beyond our Theme Parks. We are looking forward to building a special family resort that honors the cultural diversity of Hawaii and reflects the spirit of aloha that makes this location so unique."

Consistently ranked as one of the top family destinations in the world, Hawaii's natural beauty and extensive offering of family activities make it an ideal location for a Disney resort.

"Disney and Hawaii have something special in common, and that is the recognition of the importance of 'ohana," said Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle. "Not only does Disney provide wonderful family vacations, but as a media company, it also touches people worldwide with its entertainment offerings. The new Disney hotel will be a great addition to Oahu, and I am pleased to welcome a company that can also bring the world of new media and digital technology to Hawaii, opening new opportunities for innovative partnerships in non-tourism related sectors."

Ko Olina

The new resort hotel will be the latest addition to the Ko Olina development, known for its sweeping ocean views, picture-postcard white sand beaches and tranquil crystal blue lagoons.

Jeff Stone, President of The Resort Group and master developer of Ko Olina, has been working closely with Disney on the land acquisition and project.

"Ko Olina means 'place of joy,' and I can't imagine a more perfect fit here than a Disney resort that will bring joy to people from around the world," Stone said. "For many years, it has been our vision to continue to expand Ko Olina as a premier vacation destination for families and business travelers, and this new Disney resort hotel is making that vision a wonderful reality."

That was my thought exactly, Vicki!

...I had lunch with my parents today (first time I've seen them since August!) and they spent a week in September in Paris. (Their first european adventure..)

Anyway, the end result was my mother felt horribly guilty for allowing me to spent two weeks in Europe last year with so little cash (i relied on credit cards for my meals and stuff I wanted to buy because they backed out on their initial offer of helping me pay for the trip) that her and my father decided that we're doing a family trip to GREECE the *right* way...

Woohoo!
Doesn't someone here have family in Greece? (Lisa?)
Anyone been? where would you go?
They're letting me plan!

YAY Patsy! Yup, my inlaws own a home in Greece. They go several times a year. DH hasn't been there since 1975 so we're not much help on where to go/what to see. Maybe some day my family will actually get to go, but I am certainly not holding my breath. Keep us posted on your plans. If I ever have the occasion to speak to the inlaws, I'll see what they say.

AND
One of the new ships is due to be done in 2011. I WONDER if there will be a link somehow ?????????????

Patsy--sounds like your relationship with your parents is going well these days. Photos of the WDW trip are very cute! Thanks for sharing.

We are home for nearly a week. Trip was RESTFUL--one sea-day we had rain and wind so on-deck was not fun. We watched movies on the stateroom TV, in Buena Vista Theater and the stage show in Walt Disney Theater. We figure we entertained our brains and rested our bodies. We spent two days at Disney's Vero Beach Resort and got home Monday. We had lovely dinner companions and enjoyed the whole trip.

Could be!:confused3
Your trip sounds nice!!!

Yes, we had a really nice time. It's always great to be on a Disney ship. We sailed on the MAGIC three times (1999, 2000, 2002) before a two year famine of no cruises and then two cruises on the WONDER (2005, 2006) so this was like going HOME.

Any of you have a Wii or played one yet? Addicting!

I LOVE the Wii! I love the bowling on Wii Sports. We also have Super Swing Golf, which is really really fun (even if you don't like golf, like me). You HAVE to get Rayman's Raving Rabbids of you don't already have it, or at least rent it from Blockbuster. BWWAAAAAAHHHHH! (My rabbid impression). :happytv:

Between the Wii and the XBox 360, we are the nerdiest couple on the block.

..question.. if you put your child in some sort of day care would you be irritated with the day care person taking them to the grocery store and buying SIX CASES OF BEER?! I think that's crazy and I'm getting crap for saying something to that effect on the budget board! :confused3 :confused3

Hey everyone:yay:
Wow Vicki you are doing so well. You must feel soooo great:banana:

Well I've been subbing for almost a month now. I have gotten called to work every day since I was hired and was actually offered (and accepted:cheer2: )a permanent part time position. I was called to the office by the principal of the school I was working in today:scared1: and she offered me the position. I am so excited. I can still volunteer in my girls classrooms and get them off the bus everyday:woohoo: I am not in their school but I actually like this other building better:rolleyes1
