2. HOLIDAY WEEKEND TRAVEL WARNING

Okay, Not that I think Labor Day is as big as 4th of july in terms of travel but I wanted to share this:

DS was suppose to fly out of Charlotte direct to St Loius on Saturday 7/1 to visit his dad. His flight left at 10:45am. Traffic was much worse than I anticipated and we got there with less time than I wanted 45 minutes until takeoff. (yes I know not good) however Charlotte is not a big airport at all. Anyway, we stand in this ridiculous line and by the time I get to the counter it's 26 minutes until takeoff. They say the bag can't go, I say fine I can mail it Monday and throw some stuff into his backpack. She calls down to try and get the bag on and the next thing I know I'm told we are too late to board the plane and we have to leave the next day on the same flight. I was too late. I was like :confused3 the guy ahead of us is on the same flight and you let him on :confused3 :furious: :duck: She just kept saying "too late" and shoved another ticket for Sunday into my hand. My DS7 has a complete meltdown and start crying because how could I been such a horrible mother to let this happen? DS hasn't seen his dad in 8 months.

Next day is Sunday 7/2. We end up taking DS on Sat to a local theme park and staying overnight in Charlotte at a hotel. Get there with 1 hr and 15 min until deprture. All is well. Except the flight takes off 20 minutes late. When I ask the gate attendant what's up? she explains that all flights that weekend were overbooked and they were negotiating with passengers to get them to voluntarily bump. Offering incentives and such. So I tell her my story and low and behold, we were bumped. Figured they could blame me and not give me any perk for bumping. I thought it was weird that I was late and it was "my fault he couldn't go" and there was no charge for missing my flight and changing the ticket.

Long story summation: when you come to FL for the cruise, get to the airport at least 1 hr and 15 minutes in advance. The airline industry is going to take advantage of holiday travel and do not care if they bump you.

Sorry so long. Just wanted to warn you.
Ugggh! How awful for your son! They stink for doing that to a kid! Jeez!

I hope he ends up having an awesome time in spite of the mixup! Thanks for the travel warning, you just never know!

Luv to travel- very well said we all have something and I'm usually just thanking God that I don't have it as bad as someone else!!! :sunny: On that note.... When my 8 year old was in the hospital we saw some really sick kids several with no hair and my 2 oldest dd's decided to groe their hair out to donate to locks of love. The 11 year old did it in Jan. and yesterday the 8 year old (with diabetes) donated 14 inches of her hair :goodvibes I am so proud of them :)

And... how fun you will be getting eaten by sharks er I mean doing the banana boat with my family :cool1: ;)

Boy, we are a cool group of people aren't we  :cheer2:

I think it's a great feature that Disney added this. Although (for the record) it is an ugly boat. I guess it's supposed to be :confused3

I have not seen POC 1 however I get the feeling DBF will force me to see POC 2. Maybe then I will be excited about seeing the movie prop. :rolleyes1

I suppose to a certain extent, hype is lost on me.

Now let me go and get my flame retardant suit on before you start posting

No flames here. I am not a big movie person at all, but I did enjoy POC, and am anxiously awaiting #2...thus my prior Johnny Depp comments. One of my best friends (GASP) hates him/POC. Such is life! :teeth:

does absolutely nothing for me. But then again, I'm 5'11" and probably outweigh him by 10lbs.

Maybe that's my problem :rotfl:

:lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao:

Kerry - so sorry about your aggravation at the airport. :sad2: Hope your and your son's holiday weekend turns out okay.

And I have to comment that Johnny Depp doesn't do to much for me either, but Jack Sparrow does! ;) pirate: :teeth: POC is my all time favorite movie (for now) and I can't wait to see POC II. Also can't wait to see the ship, even though it really is an ugly little thing.

Last Comment - I love the way NJBill ignores all of the warm & fuzzy comments and keeps the testosterone (sp?) flowing in our little thread! ;) :teeth: :lmao: I guess someone has to keep us on topic. :teeth: ;)

We ended up making the most of it and we had a blast at Carrowinds Theme Park. That's what I love most about my DBF. He finds a way to make everything better

Bill is a great addition to us crazy women

Kerry
So sorry about what the airlines did to your son :confused3 That is really unbelievable :furious: I'm so glad you were able to turn it all around and have a good time. :grouphug:

Ihave to admit I haven't seen poc 1 either. We own the movie and my dh loves it so maybe I'll watch it this week. Sorry but Johnny Depp doesn't do much for me either :guilty: I do think it's cool though that the movie ship is at cc.

Suzanne

I have POC also and still have not watched it. My DD loves it. Everytime I turn it on I just cant get into it. Oh well, we can't all like eveything. We are a pretty loyal Disney family anyways. I have a question for you guys. Is it hard to change a Palo reservation from 2 people to 4 when you get on the ship? I got my DH and myself a reservation but could not get a table for 4 for our friends. I went ahead and booked the table for two because we are taking the Disney bus from the resort and I am afraid we will get there to late for Palo. Anyone have any idea?

You know, the scars, the needles, the skin conditions, the fluffiness (pooh sized) that we've been expressing concerns over probably would have never really been noticed (at least not by my family). But it is comforting and helpful to know about others concerns so that I will be mindful that everyone has their own difficulties in life (usually much worse than mine) and that I should be an encouragement to others and stress less over my own worries. :grouphug: Did that come out right? Do you know what I mean?

You said it well, we understand and probably all agree. :grouphug:

The Flying Dutchman is supposed to have been on the bottom of the sea I think and it looks it.

I suggest you rent POC--Black Pearl so you know the start of the story. POC II is the continuation.

Two girls I know will be extras in the wedding scene. They are both "into" theater and have a cousin who is a casting agent. When they filmed the wedding last summer in California, their Dad had to meet with his missionary agency then also, so they made it a family trip. He is a missionary to Manhattan. When he went there after 9-11 he was amazed at the street kids who had no hope in anything and it became very clear to him that he could be a missionary to them. He, wife and daughter #2 moved in a few months from northwest Indiana and daughter #1 came a few months later.

All that to say--I am looking forward to POC II because I want to look for Sarah and Elizabeth! And Captain Jack is SO FUNNY! And Elizabeth is such a great heroine--not a fluffy weak woman, but a fighter. And Will--ahhhhh.......
Nice love story. But the love story started in POC I so that is why you want to see it before DBF takes you to POC II.

Did DS get some door signs made for the cruise?

Magic Kingdom was PACKED last night.

We hopped on one of the boats that take you around the lagoon in Epcot.. and they've got one of the boats they used for the POTC movies parked in front of the U.S.A... it's a little one, and we weren't sure what it was used for.. but pretty nifty nonetheless.

HAPPY FOURTH!!!!!!!!

I'll be at work :sad2:

bummer. But can you say, holiday pay???

O.k., my kids will be missing school for the first time this year for the cruise. How do you all plan on selling the cruise absences to your kids teachers? I need all the excused absences I can get this year.

Yea thats nice. Wasnt too busy either. ANd my favorite Doc was working.

I wrote a letter telling them that she is going and I would like all the work she misses. I didnt ask if it was ok. Here it is:

I am writing this letter to both of you, to let you know that Amanda will be absent from school for a couple of days.
We are going on a cruise. We are leaving Friday Sept 1, 2006 and returning Thursday Sept 7, 2006. Amanda will be in school Friday Sept 1 till 1 pm, unfortunately our flight was changed to 3:35pm. So she will need an early dismissal that day, I didn’t want her to miss another day and had our original flight leaving at 6pm. She will be in school on Friday Sept 8.
If it is at all possible can you give her whatever work she will miss on Sept 1st, if not please give it to her when she returns and we will make sure she finishes it all.
My husband will have his computer with him; his email address is at the bottom.

Thank you. Any questions please do not hesitate to call or email
