Where do you guys live, anyway?

My mom's best friend used to live in Annapolis and we'd go visit all the time.
How I miss that, sooo beautiful. She lived a block from the Bay, you could see it from her house.

Then she moved to Hebron.. but I was older and haven't been up there. No clue where it is, lol.

We live in the small town of Damascus. It's in Montgomery County. It's like...45 mintues to an hour away from Annapolis.

Hm.
Well okay then.
If i'm ever there I'm make sure to stop and think "This is where Holly and Heidi live."
or something? Haha.

If you're ever in WV.... I'm sorry..

Oh hey Dawn, how did you change the color of the text under your username?

Hee hee...I didn't. I got tagged by the Tag Fairy. Watch out, she gets ya when you make comments that you don't expect to live with for the rest of your DIS life. :rotfl:

Hahaha I can't spell..

I don't know who they are but they're people who take funny things you've said and put it under your username in color??

I've never been tagged but I know lots of people try tos ay clever things on here in the hopes of a tag fairy spotting it!

As you can tell, neither of my comments were particularly clever. :rotfl: One was telling someone how much I talk--it's a quote from my father, who used to say that my mouth runneth over. The other is (obviously) how I feel about the pool at the Disneyland Hotel. :teeth:

I've got a question for you to think about.
Would you rather have your kids remember a first trip with a parent who was using an ECV and was able to do things and be fun or remember seeing their parent in pain?

Maybe you would do the same things anyway, but the end result with the ECV would be doing them in comfort. Walking around in pain is just going to create more pain. My kids are older, but some of their early memories of WDW include watching their grandpa hobble around the parks, icing his knees after a day in the parks and sitting on a bench in a central place and not be able to enjoy the park with them. The last few trips before he died include memories of him using an ECV and really being included in the fun.

My youngest DD can't walk at all and her first wheelchair was a freedom machine for her. I know some other parents of kids like her felt like the wheelchair was a depressing thing for them. It never was for us. We looked at it the same way as glasses - a way to do things that she would not otherwise be able to do. I might have a different perspective because without glasses, I can see clearly only about 5 inches away from my face (I even put my glasses on at night to get up in the dark). But, at least to me, ECVs and wheelchairs are glasses for the body.

Thank you for the insight. I think the hardest part for me is that I can really handle normal, everyday walking because I can pace myself. It's just the added stress of being on my feet *all* day and standing in line that I can't handle, and I feel like such a faker if I use a wheelchair. I also feel guilty because I know there are people who have to use a wheelchair and I feel like I'm taking something away from them. I know I saw teenagers using wheelchairs at Disneyland, and I had to wonder if they were just trying to line-jump. I feel like I'm cheating if I use a wheelchair, if that makes any sense. :teeth:

However, I've been discussing this with my husband, and we finally came to the conclusion that I might be able to handle the walking for the first day, but I'd be in more pain on the second. Even if I could handle the pain on the second day, each subsequent day would build to the point where I would potentially be in substantial enough pain that I couldn't join my family. And since this is a family trip, and the thing we value most about Disney is how it brings our family together, it's better not to take a chance. I'll try to subdue the guilty feelings.

Don't feel guilty. Do what you have to do.
Most of the regular lines are wheelchair and ECV accessible, so the only 'advantage' you will have is having a place to sit while you wait. There are people who assume that wheelchair users go to the front of the lines, but that is not the case. There are a few lines that are not accessible and have an alternate access for people using wheelchairs. Most of the lines are Mainstream Access and everyone waits in the same (accessible) lines.
If you want information on which lines are accessible, you can find links in the disABILITIES FAQs thread located near the top of the disABILITIES Board.

What some people in your situation do is use a wheelchair or ECV to get from place to place, then get out, park it with the strollers and stand in line. That way, you can cut your walking down tremendously.

So I ordered (on 7/18) the create your own tees that were on sale. Well, they didn't approve the slogan I put on the tee. They charged my Amex but never sent me notification that they were denying my design. I called guest services and they said they would not honor the original prices even though I explained that I never received the e-mail.

I am so furious :furious: They always like to brag about service and what not.

It won't ruin my trip but I am disappointed. I reallly do not have the time now to make t-shirts. We are out of town every weekend between now and the cruise and it's just not possible for me to do during the week.

I am going to watch e-bay for some cute matching shirts. I found one I like but she didn't have 5 in the sizes I needed :guilty:

I agree. We have purchased stuff from there and the customer service is terrible..not close to "disney" standards.

Ker-Bear, my wife ordered from here once

In my second year of college, I stayed in a hall with NINE OTHER GIRLS. We each had our own tiny little room, but we shared two showers, two toilets and one very small kitchen.
By the end of the year, I think I still liked one of them. But that was it!

my roommate from my freshman year is my absolute best friend in the whole wide world. freshman year we lived in the dorms. it was 2 to a room with a sink in the room and a bathroom with a toilet and shower that connected to the room next door. so it was kind of a suite. we lived in probably the newest dorm building at the time, they were building new ones that year that opened the next fall that were really nice. anyways i'm not sure what any of the other halls looked like inside as i never went to them. but we had to live in that specific hall because it was designated as the 'athlete' hall. all the other dorm halls would close over christmas and wouldn't open again until classes started the end of january. but being a swimmer we had to be there during 'winter-mester' for practice and meets. then our campus had apartments on campus that we lived in the last 3 years. me and my best friend and then 2 other girls. it was never the same 2 girls, well except junior and senior year one of the girls was the same. and we all were swimmers too. so we were around each other all the time. i only ever had one 'bad' roommate, i don't think she really cared for me and i didn't really care for her. but as soon as we weren't living together anymore we got along great. (she was too controlling for me...)

Hi Holly! I'm here but leaving in a few minutes to take DD to school. I had to go to the high school at 6:30 a.m. today and get schedule issues straightened out.

I'll be back soon. :sunny:
