I am going to hunt down my MIL and lay into her.
Seriously. If she didn't live an hour away and it wasn't pouring down snow, we'd be having words. And it wouldn't end pretty.
She is trying to have a birthday party for Tom's grandmother on Thursday (I'll be gone- so I have no part in anything to do with this party, I've never been mentioned or ANYTHING)
She wants to have it at 2:30, an hour and a half from here. Tom works 8 hours a day. He's not willing to take last minute leave for a party that could easily be schedule in the evening so he could attend. He told his mom even if he got up at 4am to walk Rink and got to work he wouldn't get out until 2:30 in the afternoon and it'd still take him 1.5 hours to get there (weather permitting)
So she's PISSED pretty much and says "Just bring the dog with you and we'll chain him up in the backyard."
Tom said "No, mom. I'm not bringing the dog." (Rightly so- Rink doesn't know these people and it's SNOWING. He's a temperature sensitive breed and cannot be left in the snow-- besides, that is just CRUEL! My dad also offered to drive a half hour here to walk Rink that night so Tom could leave after work, so my family is at least TRYING to help out!)
So she goes "Well, why not?" He said "He's tempermental mom, that's not right to do."
She goes
"LIKE YOUR WIFE."

WHO does this woman think she is?? That is clearly uncalled for, as I was not even a part of this conversation!!
And WHAT makes her think that I would ever trust her with my child? If she can say horrible things like that to my husband, who clearly loves me and chose to be with me, why would I trust her not to say stupid crap like that to my KID? Hearing that upsets Tom almost as much as it PISSES ME OFF.
Oh.I.Am.So.Done.With.Her.
SOOO DONE!![]()
Phew.
It felt good to vent, haha.
Also, gave me a perfect way to set my parents up....
My brother is surprising everyone (but me, as I made the travel arrangements) by coming up for Christmas. He'll fly in Christmas Eve and is leaving that Sunday back to Orlando.
Well.. originally Mom and Dad were going to do *our* Christmas dinner on Sunday night so Tom and I could spend it with his family out in the country.
Now, I'm not going. Psh, she'll be lucky if I ever go back.
So I called my mom and said I wasn't going and I'd like to use Sunday to be lazy so I'd prefer to have dinner on Christmas if she could plan it that way.
Now she'll have a meal prepared and planned out and be super surprised when my brother shows up on Christmas Eve! Worked out perfectly!!
Well, I'm off to pack! Columbus to shop tomorrow, Miami on Sunday and the cruise on Monday.
Have a wonderful week, ladies!
Wow Patsy I have no words. I heard mother-in-laws were like that but WOW!!! That is terrible for her to say! I don't even know what grounds she has to say that on. Has anything ever happened to lead you to be even the slightest bit tempermental? (Not saying you are or that you sound like...but did she at least have even the tiniest reason for something like that!?) Girls are just too much drama...I'm soooo sorry Patsy!!! Just ignore her...you always sound like a sweet person!

I asked Tom and said "I Want to know the truth, I can handle it- have I done ANYTHING to deserve all the crap she is giving me?"
His reply: "No. The only thing she has against you is that your family has money/education and you grew up that way."![]()
So somehow it's my fault I have an incredibly intelligenet (PITA) father who makes a decent living?

Sounds like you are an anchor for Tom--giving him stability and a purpose--I sure would thank you for that if he were my son !I just don't understand hating your daughter in law because she took your son who was coasting along and created the "American" family with him.
We got married (she told him was a big mistake to get married at all, not just a mistake to marry me) bought a house (they never owned their own home) and we're having a baby (she would prefer him have had babies out of wedlock)
Poor Tom--how hard this must be for himSo I asked him then if he thought what I was saying (that as long as she says crap like that, my child will NOT be around her- it will not hear those things about their mother [especially unfounded!]) and he said "Yes, I completley agree"
And then sighed.

I know I got really upset over something that is not that big of a deal... but c'mon lady!!![]()
You have every right to feel that way. My MIL pushes all my buttons all the time, I get it!
I asked Tom and said "I Want to know the truth, I can handle it- have I done ANYTHING to deserve all the crap she is giving me?"

She thinks I am *better* than them and that I think that I am and so I will never fit in there. (She never even bothered to graduate high school/get a GED and never worked a REAL job in her life)
So somehow it's my fault I have an incredibly intelligenet (PITA) father who makes a decent living?
And raised his kids RIGHT? (I like to think despite my parental crap they did a pretty good job with me.. I'll eventually get a degree (hehe) and I can support myself!)

i don't think she realizes how much stress it causes him. It's not fair to me and it's not fair to him to have to hear that stuff. Stupid lady. Stupid, stupid lady.![]()
...okay. I'm really leaving!
She wanted her son to have kids out of wedlock?? This woman sounds like a nutjob!![]()
I say keep the baby away...she's a little crazy sounding to me. Poor Tom.

Then we wonder what's wrong with these guys when we get them! Holy cow, talk about emotional baggage. Mine came with way too much, too so I can once again, totally relate. The sad part is, as you've already seen Patsy, we're the ones who end up having to deal with the repercussions from what they've done to their kids.![]()
