Disney Wonder Sept 3-7,2006 Part 2

My mother apparently asked Tom if he had any other pictures from Vegas (I already gave her mine, for a slideshow for the reception)

He gave her this one! And thinks its funny (as does she)!

Am I the only one who thinks its totally unfair to use a picture of a bride where she looks like she can't find her way out of the veil??:rotfl:

Yep! Have you ever sailed with them before??

Nope...just 4 Disney cruises and 1 Norwegian cruise.
(I do NOT recommend Norwegian...to ANYONE! I'd rather go on no cruise at all than be on THAT cruise line again!!!:rotfl: )
Can you tell I love my Disney??

I'm sure that'll be my thing afterwards but we're just going to go and have a great time! She never gets to go anywhere (unless, oddly, I find a great deal and call her up!) because she's single and hates to go alone...

I'm sure it'll be a blast!

Well. We're dealing with more issues than just his death (that have pretty much come out to me the last two days). My FIL was JUST bothering to get to know Tom. He denied that Tom was his son until he joined the Marine Corps. Then he only owned up to him when he was drunk and Tom, in his uniform, showed up at the bar to get him.
He was alcoholic, abusive and a miserable man. That, maybe the last 6 months?, was just starting to bother with Tom. He DID come to our family cook-out in June and did take Tom to dinner/breakfast a few times when he came to town. They were just starting out.
I was just starting to get to know him, too. When Tom moved in with me his dad told him he was making the biggest mistake of his life by being "monogamous" and at that point Tom told his dad to never come near me because he didn't want me tainted by him. It wasn't until he straightened up that Tom let him near me.

It's been hard. He has fits of anger where he goes off about how horrible the man was. I've learned more about his childhood in these fits of anger than I knew before because he never went there, he blocked it out. Apparently his dad tried to shoot his mom one night, but missed and almost hit him and his brother. Tom tried to get his dad off their mom and broke his leg.
Crappy, crazy stuff that I can't imagine going through.

He's re-living it all now in a mix of relief that the man is gone, hate that he feels so numb and disappointment that he was just really starting to get to know the man sans-the alcoholic abusive crappiness that made up his childhood.

I let him talk because I think I need to know that this is where he came from, but it's so hard. He makes me cry and I just want to hug him and take away the pain but he's so angry...

 Tom is so blessed to have YOU::yes::

Sounds like your instincts are GREAT! Show Tom the LOVE and ACCEPTANCE he did not get as a kid and help heal his heart.

I wonder if his childhood is part of why he does not want to go to WDW--he does not know how to be a kid.

You may need to teach him that!

 Jan

Nope! :sad2: I'm with you on that. Any way to sneak it away from your Mom? Or sneak in a retaliation photo of Tom? Or just suck it up and be a good sport!

Jan :)

Aw, thanks.

I wonder if I can get him to agree with you. He needs WDW in his life. Pronto!

He did do sports in high school. He lived 8 miles from the high school-- and I'm talking COUNTRY the only thing around for miles is cows. And crazy country roads that go up mountains, down mountains, around mountains.

Crazy kid RODE HIS BIKE TO FOOTBALL PRACTICE 8 MILES THERE and then went to practice and RODE HIS BIKE BACK HOME 8 MILES!

I drive those roads and I'm like-- "there is NO way I would have ridden a bike that far, crazy boy!" (not to mention I probably couldn't get up the first hill let alone all the rest and definitely not after a football practice!)

His answer is always "It was better than being at home." And he makes me wanna hold him all over again.

Knowing he rode that (which obviously put him in quite good shape) and hearing him complain about how crappy bootcamp was-- I KNOW I would have never made it in the military! :rotfl:

Again I say, what a blessing you are to Tom!!

Has he been to WDW ever? :confused3 Could you get him to go for a short visit?

Or have the focus be on a "visit" to your brother and then "what shall we do today?" take a drive and end up at EPCOT? :thumbsup2 Do you think he would be more receptive if he thinks it is 'educational"?

Didn't you say a while ago that he agreed to go on a cruise? :ship: When will that be?

I am glad you are taking a trip with your friend with the inheritance, :sail: but sure wish Tom would get some of OUR kind of vacation with some of that money too. ::yes::

What is the latest on the house? jobs? mourning?

Have a great day all!!

Jan :)

He's been once but he was 2 years old and other than the pictures, doesn't remember.

He's not receptive because he doesn't *enjoy* vacations. He is content to sit at home and play X-Box 360- a vacation where you go, go, go! is not up his alley. Which is why I finally talked him into a cruise because he can sit around and I told him I'd be good and I'd sit around with him and read and relax. It would be a compromise- he agreed I could have one day at one of the ports of call to go, go, go and he'd go with me... as long as we spent the rest doing absolutely nothing! :rotfl:

I asked him if he'd go on this one with me before I invited my friend and he said no. He just doesn't enjoy normal things. ;)
He knows that her and I have similar vacation styles so he's sending me off. I think we're going to Vegas over Spring Break next year. I get to pick Vegas, Portland, or San Jose because each have one of his three best friends living there.

Jobs are alright. I have to go through corporate training again and I'm missing two tests and pile that on all the other stuff I missed from the services-- I've got a teacher threatening to drop me. Not good. :scared1:

Vicki.

We've got two extra tickets to Kennywood for Saturday's "Military Appreciation Day"
Know anyone that would be interested?

We hate to waste them.

That's terrible Patsy! What difference does it make if you're there or not as long as you can learn the material and pass the class??:confused3 Sometimes I just don't understand... College is supposed to be more on us to learn the material but some professors.:sad2: I was shocked to find some actually take attendance! Sheesh! You'd think having to PAY for it was enough incentive to come to class every now and then...

I'll send some hugs! your way and hope that professor fixes the screws that are loose in her head!:rotfl:

It's an education course, we basically go to talk about all the crap we have to do outside the class (volunteer hours, tests, student observations) and my college has a policy that if you miss more classes than the number you meet per week, they drop you a letter grade.
Most teachers don't actually follow it.. but apparently this guy is going to.

So basically, it meets 1x per week-- we're only allowed to miss one and keep our grade!

But don't they have a policy about deaths in the family?:confused3 Usually most places are understanding about that...
That's rough Patsy. Ours, if they take attendance, tell you how many classes you're allowed to miss. Although usually it's just 3, but at least the professor gets to set how many you can miss. But I can see how missing that particular class could matter more, but I mean...you had a family emergency. You'd think they'd understand that.:confused3

Did you guys read the DCL rumors????

The Mediterannean! (forgive my spelling I'm excited!)
Lets go!

...except, how do we get there cheaply??:headache:
