Disney Wonder Jan 23, 2011

Kris, I think I responded to Ryan in the previous post, nevertheless maybe those of us that are staying on board can meet up.

We'll receive information from DCL to meet at a certain time in one of the lounges to be escorted off the ship and to be "processed." Then ,from what I've read, we'll be able to hang in the Cove Cafe, which is also the only time children are allowed in there.

I probably won't see anyone until the meet to disembark that morning as we'll be saying goodbye to my SIL, her DH, and my two nieces. My DS is quite attached to them, so I hoping the transition goes well. We're using, "They have to go back to school, but look how lucky you are" type of reasoning. Going horseback riding and celebrating his birthday later in the week will probably help, too, but then again he could want them there for that.

I'm glad to see that there are at least a couple of us doing the B2B.

Were you lucky enough to get the same cabin for both sailings or will you have to move?

Kris

Hi Darrcie and Everyone,

My name is Julie and I am very new to this board. Like...15 minutes new. Practically a zygote. I caught wind of you guys from a post on the DCL page on facebook and, though I know we're just a little over a week out, thought I would say hello.

We (me, my husband Tim, Lillian (will turn 10 Feb. 2) and Noah (5) will be on the cruise. Lillian is also very friendly and would love a friend or two onboard, if she's not too young. She's a pretty mature almost 10 - just ask her!

This will be our 3rd cruise - the kids' 2nd - and, needless to say, it's like the night before Christmas AND a trip to Disneyland up in this piece. In other words - going crazy with anticipation! We are SO looking forward to this.

Hope to hear from you!

Julie

Welcome to the party. There's going to be a meet-up in the Promenade Lounge on Embarkation day from 2:30-3:30 if you're interested. Also, if you go to the sailing's webpage in the first post of this thread, you'll see whose cruising and the kids' ages. Mine will be turning 4 on this cruise and I'm sure he'd love to meet and play with Noah if he's interested. I know we have at least one other 4 year old (Emma) and maybe a few others as well.

Love the zygote reference BTW.

Kris

Great!

Hey, I just noticed your previous cruises. We were on the Magic at the same time in September 2009! It really IS a Small World, afterall!

did y'all participate in one of the two FE's on that cruise? Your noah is a little older than our Noah but I betcha they were in Flounders at some point at the same time....

Hi Julie, you joined the right group! I was a latecomer and everyone made me feel right at home - they even had my restraining order cut back to 50 yards! My DD, gonna be 10 on the 27th, is really friendly, and has been making cruise-friends via email and FB. (If you can believe my kid has more facebook friends than me, not depressing or anything.) If you like, send me an email at dpomeranz@gmail.com and maybe we can get our kids introduced by phone or something. It's always good when they have friends. I had selected a few Chargers Cheerleaders to be friends with but my DW was opposed to the idea. I guess with me being voted "Studliest Man on Earth" four years in a row by "Dave Magazine" she has plenty to worry about.

One week to go!

Welcome Julie! :grouphug::dance3::woohoo::cool1:
It looks like we have a number of kids all about the same age. My son is 10 and I am hoping he will make a few friends this cruise. It looks like mainly girls on this cruise but if they don't mind he is an equal opportunity friend. :flower3:

I keep finding more and more things to remember to bring. BTW, thank you for the person who said something about zip ties. I am not sure I will get much sleep between now and then I keep waking up in the middle of the night thinking, "I need to remember...." Note pad by the bed now. :idea:

I hope all of you have a good weekend. If all things go as planned by the end of the weekend, I will have put the finishing touches on the FE map and I will find a way to post them, unless someone has beat me to it. I know I needed to have one. :3dglasses And hopefully I will have all of my FE's organized. :rolleyes1 I am such a procrastinator!

Happy Friday everyone!!!!!:hippie:

No! I had no idea what an FE was until about 6 hours ago! It sounds like fun, but alas - I think that trying to do FEs this late in the game would probably kill me; however, with my kids being "off-track" (we do year-round school in our area of So Cal), it would probably be a great diversion since they've been making me crazy with the "Can we go...can we make...can we buy...can we haves."

My Noah's birthday is in August, so when we were on the Magic, he was 4 and went to kid's club. He'll be there again this time and is REALLY looking forward to it. We had to drag both kids out last time with Noah, who rarely cries, sometimes in tears. He was so exhausted that he fell asleep at dinner probably 5 of the 7 nights, even though we had the main dining. I am hoping that being in our own time zone coupled with the main dining might allow him to have a few more dinners on ths cruise!

Darrcie, I have four daughters ages, 13, 10, 10, and 8. I've sent you a PM with my daughers' emails. :)

Thanks! I got your PM and forwarded your message to Ashlie. I couldn't reply by PM since I haven't posted enough yet. Working on that.

Darrcie

Dude.

"Dave Magazine"? That rag is still in print? :)

My DD has always been the girl who, two minutes after meeting someone, says, "This is my best friend!" No, she's not a stalker. Much. Even at that, though, with so many kids on the ship, and so many continual new faces, it can get a little overwhelming. It would be nice for her to have a connection.

I can't get over that in a little over a week, we'll be sitting pretty and don't even have to fly anywhere!

Score!

One week from tomorrow we're in San Pedro! This is awesome. The DW packed a suitcase and I've got three! I have needs, ya know! She called me a dork and left for Starbucks. Clearly, "dork" is Irish for "loving intelligent male." She's so sweet.

I've got my checklist going:

1. Get permission from parole officer;
2. Get permission from Steve's parole officer (I think there is a prohibition against fraternization);
3. Dehydrate bottled water so it's easier to carry on board;
4. Get patch for behind the ear;
5. Get smoking patch for other ear, in case I want to take up smoking and then quit;
6. Get liquor for the DW in case the kids go to bed early (hey Palo ain't cheap -- if I'm spending $15 I want a kiss goodnight before her cerfew is up!!!);
7. Check with DCL about scoring LSD or PCP in case I need to go MIA after a few days in the same cabin with DW, DD, and DS.
8. Bring pants. Last vacation, there was some.....unpleasantness.

charlenek421 - Charlene - Did I miss it somewhere in a post that you gave us Aaron's age? I don't need an exact but the FE I am making I am making bigger for the little ones. If he has a fav character post that too!
YES, I am still working on the FE's. :sad2:

Dave-in regards to your list....:scared1: :rotfl2:
Later,
Sue
One week from today we will be driving down to MIL's house in So Cal :woohoo:

My husband was thinking of taking my son fishing on an excursion,but the only one I saw was in Cabo and was $199 a person. Has anyone ever done it and was it worth it? Or dos anyone know of a cheaper way to go???
My husband has been out of town, came back yesterday looked at my pile of FE's and said "Are you kidding me?" He blames you for this Tonya. :)

My baby is 3, 4 years old in march. His fav characters are Mickey, Mickey, Mickey! Toy story, goofy and princesses lol he calls them his girls! He is a funny little one! Theres probably not a character he doesn't like. Thanks so much for asking. Those FE are some work now, fun though! I was glad to get mine shipped off to my mom who is picking us up and staying a night with us in San Pedro. I always overpack so one less suitcase at the airport will make my husband happy. I can't believe it's just a week now, time flies!

he and our Noah are nearly the same age. Noah is 3, going to be 4 in May. However, Noah wears a size 5, nearly 6. Mom is 6'1". Great Uncle and Great Grampa are 6'7".

wow, no worries about noah being tall enough for basketball i see! thats so great they are so close in age, and aaron will love his name. his best friend's name is noah! aaron is probably average size for his age wearing 4/5 t but big in personality. luckily his daddy is 6ft but poor little me just 5'3''. he tells me that he is going to be 13 on his birthday because he loves marvel and asks to watch those movies and i tell him to watch pg13 movies he has to be 13, he's a smart little guy! funny no matter how much you tell kids not to be in a hurry to grow up they just dont listen, ok sounding like my mom now lol

Wow, I can barely keep up!

Ryan - Congrats on booking your December trip. Let me guess...AKV? You booked it about two months too late though. We are going for the Wine & Dine Half Marathon the first weekend in October. Our booking window isn't until March so we hope there is something we like and can afford points-wise still available.

Sue - Regarding the gingerbread cookies, you know what they say, don't bring any if you don't bring enough for everyone. I'd still probably try to sneak them on. I'd just hide them as best as you can. Personally, I think they will be a lot more suspicious about any baked goods I may bring on as they know I'm from Humboldt. :hippie:

Cheryl - I LOVE the Giant Dipper! I grew up not far from there so it's always been a sentimental favorite. I haven't been there in about three years though. That trip was actually my daughter's first time at a beach and walking on sand. My big amusement park road trip days are on hiatus right now and will be for a couple of years. Our last big road trip was in 2003. We did 13 parks in 6 states in 8 days. Emma is my little riding buddy so I can't wait until she is tall enough to go on all the big ones. Then we will get out a lot more. Our trips have been almost exclusively Disney since she was born. Yeah, it's not exactly suffering but I really would like to get out more to new parks soon. We'll have to chat on the cruise!

Jessica - What do you mean you are disturbed by me bringing a toothbrush? I'm one of the few people here in the boonies with any teeth left so I try extra hard to take care of both of them. And hey, since our dining is linked, I'll check with Guest Services to see if they can just put our room charges on Ryan's credit card. He's so generous. What a sweetheart he is. You're a lucky girl! :lovestruc

Kris - I don't play an instrument either. Maybe we can call our band Studly Dave & the Talentless Two. Karen would make an awesome manager. We can all get matching tattoos with our logo in Mazatlan. Aah, who am I kidding Kris, with our man cards gone, we are much more likely to knit logo sweaters or start a quilt onboard. (You'll just die when you see my new pattern!)

I used to play guitar a few centuries ago in junior high and high school. I played in a rock band. We were like Spinal Tap in that we couldn't keep band members but ours were bassists. All the decent ones wanted nothing to do with us. I thought we were awesome but looking back, we were pretty bad. My buddy Frank had an epiphany one day: "Hey, I know a drummer...and Steve plays guitar. We'll start a band and I can be the singer!" I love him like a brother but that boy couldn't sing to save his life. His mom was the only person who thought he had a voice. His dog didn't even want to be in the room. His mom's praise was enough motivation for him. We kept threatening to ditch him once we found a guy who could actually sing. We really wouldn't have ditched him though as he was the only one of us with a car and any $$$ to help buy equipment. Aah, those were the days.

Let's see, the weirdest thing we ever packed??? Besides a kid (why would anyone want to spoil a cruise by bringing a child?), the first thing that comes to mind is we brought a foot bath on our honeymoon to WDW. In our heavier days, our feet used to KILL us after a couple of days in the parks. This was our first trip of any real length and we were (okay, I was) convinced that there was no way we could survive 13 days in Orlando without pampering our feet. We bought a giant, deluxe foot bath just before the trip and took it with us along with a two-week supply of foot bath salts. That beast took up half a giant suitcase by itself. It's a good thing it was before the airlines were charging for luggage. We ended up only using it once. We put it in the bath tub, filled it up and turned it on. That thing was so loud! I guess we didn't need the model with a hemi after all. I was sure the neighbors below were going to come up and fix a beating on us like you usually only get at Six Flags. That was the only time we used it on the whole trip and actually since we bought it 11 years ago.

Julie - Welcome! I hope you can make it to the Promenade Lounge meet. We'd love to meet you and my DD4 would love to meet Noah.

Dave - Thanks for the reminder but I already asked my parole officer about the trip. He said he would look the other way if I could fill his laundry list of bulk, ahem, "prescriptions" from Mexico. So I may be a little late getting to the Cabo Wabo meet. Maybe I'd better leave my Bob Marley shirt at home if I have any hopes of getting through customs. :rolleyes1

So do I have the record for the longest posts or what?

-steve

Yesterday and/or the day before there were several things/people I wanted to reply to, but I'm sorry that I can't remember and I'm too tired to go back and look.

Thank you to everyone who gave a horse riding suggestion. Good news - I have pants that fit now, woohoo! :woohoo:

Kris - I have no idea how your name got into that post . . . friggin' weird! Maybe you should be paranoid :laughing:

Everyone: Ryan and I have a BUNCH of zip ties, so if anyone needs one we will be handing them out at at the meet the day we board. :thumbsup2

Hi, all
I will be there with my DH, DD3, DD5, DD7.

Is there any girls around my daughter age here?

Nice to meet you all. see you in 8 Days :)

Of course AKV. I think that is my favorite part about WDW.

Do you already have your home resort booked as a backup? Food & Wine is a hard time to get either of the EPCOT resorts, but AKV, OKW & SSR will probably have something.

We were there for the food and wine festival and the Halloween party a few years ago and it was a blast. There are a lot of people stumbling around EPCOT on the weekends though......
