Hello to everyone in this group. I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Monica and I live in Mazatlan, Sinaloa Mexico. For anyone on a future Disney cruise to the Mexican Riviera, I am pleased to make myself available to you for any questions about the city of Mazatlan or country of Mexico.

As for myself, I am a resident of both the United States and of Mexico. I speak both English and Spanish fluently and I have sailed on DCL numerous times and have been a lifelong fan of Disney. Let me say right upfront, I am NOT selling anything nor am I affiliated with any business or tour company. I am only here to help and give honest information and opinions in an attempt to make your time in Mazatlan or Mexico a positive experience.

I hope that everyone will welcome me to the discussion and that I can be of assistance to anyone who has a question about my city or country. I will attempt to check the boards once per day, but should I miss a question, please do not hesitate to send me a private message. I look forward to getting to know everyone!

If you do that research I'd be interested in hearing what you find out. I can't imagine anyone would know yet what a "good spot" is going to be, because no one has ever seen it before. You can try and imagine while you're there, but there's just no way to know. It's also going to be CRAZY as far as "seating" goes - considering there isn't any "seating"! Just like DL's Fantasmic, you get to sit on the ground. I've heard that only about 7,000 people can fit in the area to see the show at once (and I've seen the area, it doesn't look big enough to me to even hold that many!). I don't know, but considering Disneyland could average a good 40K to 50K people in one day (and people from that park will undoubtedly go over to DCA to see World of Color), it's hard to imagine only allowing 7K people into the viewing area. This is one thing I just don't know about. It will be interesting to see how it all works out - that's for sure.

A tip, if I may. California Adventure is doing the meal package with VIP seating for World of Color (just like the mean and VIP package for Disney World's Fantasmic). I would HIGHLY recommend you do this. If you're going in a few weeks, I would call Disney Dining tomorrow [(714) 781-DINE] and make your reservation now! My recommendation is the Trattoria, food is good. I think it's about $30 per person, but you get an appetizer, drink, entree, and dessert per each person plus the VIP seating. At least with this package you know you'll get a descent seat for the show. (Ariel's Grotto also has a package which is $39 per person, which I might ad is normal price so they are not charging more for the VIP seating). Anyway, just a thought. I would highly recommend it though!

So we are all signed up for World of Color priority seating on June 20th! I'm VERY excited. We've eaten at Trattoria before, so we made the reservation at Ariel's Grotto. The cast member who took my reservation said that they don't know exactly where they are going to seat us for the show (they won't know until June 11th when the actual show begins), but she's heard that the seating will be near the Jumpin' Jellyfish attraction. She said I could always call back after the show officially kicks off to ask a cast member where the seating is. Anyone going before then? If not, I'll let you guys know how it blew my mind.

We'll let you know about the snorkeling. If we go snorkeling we'd love to do the same excursion as you guys! Hey, is there anywhere he in Cali where we could all go snorkeling on a weekend sometime?? I haven't watched the video yet, but I'll watch it in a few minutes!

We've heard of snorkeling in Catalina, Santa Barbara and La Jolla. Sergio and I would love to go to La Jolla for snorkeling and swim with the sharks: http://www.sandiegobikeandkayaktours.com/snorkeling.html. What do you guys think?

Yanira - I completely agree - I think you and Sergio are SO MUCH like Ryan and me! It's insane how much we have in common! We just may have found friends for life!

Yanira - Hi, nice to finally "meet" you! I hope we get to chat a lot more. You sound like a fun couple. We are going to be in L.A. September 3-12. We'd love to meet up with any fellow cruisers while there. Be sure to check out the forums on CruiseCritic.com for snorkeling advice. The folks there should be able to recommend the best spots.

We just got back from our camping trip. We had a really good time. Emma had a blast feeding the goats there, playing mini-golf, swimming, making smores, and helping set up the tent trailer. It was a comedy of errors though as we had numerous things go wrong that will require some repair on my part but it was fun. We had our Mickey FE hung up by the door to use for our keys, sunglasses, etc. No, no one put anything fun into it while we were away though.

Amy and I ran together in a 5K race on Sunday while I pushed Emma in the jogger. Just before that, Emma ran her first 1K race. She was so proud to strut across the finish line in her little pink running outfit and collect her medal. We are so proud of her!

Let's see how quickly I can get caught up here...

Jessica - We've never done an excursion apart either and I don't know that we would anytime soon. Most of our plans now are to find something that is kid-friendly which isn't very easy on cruises. Especially with excursions booked through the cruiseline, nearly everything is for older kids or teens. From what I remember about our last cruise, pretty much the only things she could do were city tours which don't really appeal to us or beach excursions. If I just wanted to go to the beach, I'd rather save $$$ and take a cab there myself which is what we did in St. Thomas and Cozumel.

We would leap at the chance to go snorkeling again but Emma is still too young and since we don't know of any good spots off the west coast, we won't be in any hurry to snorkel again unless we do so from the Caribbean or Hawaii.

I think we are pretty much 95% sold on doing the canopy tour in Puerta Vallarta. With any extra time at the end of the day, we will probably either wander around town or just enjoy the ship.

We still have no idea of what to do in Mazatlan or Cabo. I think we will most likely pass on the dolphin thing in Cabo because I don't know if Emma will get as much out of it at her age and may actually be freaked out by it. I think we will do a better job of getting our money's worth if we wait a few years. Has anyone done this at SeaWorld's Discovery Cove in Orlando?

Congrats on your first three A's. Good luck with your last two and especially math.

We used Oriental Trading Company for our last cruise. They do have a great variety of things for a cheap price. We still have no idea what we are going to do for all of you. It will probably come down to how many people we have to buy/make for.

What is my favorite Disney movie and character? Hmm, live action would definitely have to be Pirates of the Caribbean - The Curse of the Black Pearl. I LOVED the first movie. My favorite animated film changes quite a bit as I get sick of Emma watching them over and over. Right now I'd have to say Lion King. My favorite Disney character has always been Baloo.

Emma's favorite Disney anything is Cinderella. Cindy is her favorite Princess but she is really loving Tiana right now too. I'll let Amy post her favorites.

Sue - I hope Alec is feeling much better now. That is too bad you had to miss out on Yosemite but you aren't too far so you can hopefully go before long. I will have to pick your brain for a good place to stay there as I've never been and want to get out there next summer. I hope the pool is ready soon so you can get a lot of use out of it this summer.

Kirsten - We love Washington state. The climate and scenery of coastal Washington is very similar to where we live so we feel right at home there. We have been up there a couple of times and have friends there. We are planning a two week road trip next July and will spend some time in Oregon, Washington and B.C. The last time we went was before Emma was born and I really want her to see the great zoos and animal parks there. Yanira - Awesome video! Sergio looked like a kid in a candy shop when he saw it. Do you usually take snorkeling excursions from boats or just find a nice place from shore? If from shore, you wouldn't have to twist our arms too hard to take a dip in Mexico assuming it wasn't freezing. We just don't know of any good spots and didn't have the best experience there before. If Amy and I did one on this cruise, it would have to be at a place where Emma can play at the beach while we took turns. It would probably be too hard but we really love snorkeling too. Her swim classes are going really well so maybe we can take her by the time she is six or seven.

Great job on your FE. It looks amazing. It's so much better than we could come up with as we aren't creative at all. We just have our basic Mickey FE that was given to us.

I grew up in CA and I gotta say, Washington/Oregon weather is better for my skin! (I'm pretty fair.) We love the Portland Zoo (called Oregon Zoo) but I think the Seattle one, Woodland Park, is better. I haven't been to the one in BC, but I hear it's fabulous! And I've never been to ID, we'll have to do that one day.

We're also wondering what we'll do for shore excursions. The girls will be six and not swimming all that well yet. I'll have to keep up with what you all are doing and steal some ideas from you! It's our first cruise and we're all really excited!

Hello from the east coast.

Dave and I went to Ocean City Maryland on Sunday and the water temp was 59. burrr.
There were tons of people in the ocean(mostly kids) I could only go up to my knees . What temp do you think the water will be in mexico in Jan?

You can tell by my name that my fav is Tigger, I just love him. Very sad that he in not on the ship. The first Pirate movie is my fav as well. I just love watching the movie on deck on pirate party night.

I finished our FE last Friday, I will post a a picture as soon as I figure out how. I might just email it to Jessia and she can post it on our web site.

Dave really wants to go fishing, we might go with Mazatlan Frank, not sure yet. I think we might just go into town at Cabo. We have been there before and the bars and stores are calling our names.( Dave and Cathy come on in for a jello shooter)

Yeah - that's exactly what I was trying to say with my earlier post. I don't think there will be info out there because not even the cast members have any info yet. We were talking to someone the other day while we were at DCA and they said the same thing - the reservations agent had 0 information! If the cast members don't know, how will anyone else?

I'm glad to hear you're taking advantage of the VIP dining package though, that will be a good way to see World of Color!

Just chiming in on World Of Color since it is a little over a week away and I just read an update on it about an hour ago. The plan is to distribute "fastpasses" to provide entry into the main viewing area. The number that I saw was around 2,000 passes for each of the first two shows of the day, no passes for the third shows (when they occur). It also sounds like you won't be able to save a seat in the main (good) viewing area by showing up early since they plan on clearing everyone out a few hours before the show to allow for fastpass and dinner package seating. Apparently it is going to be standing room only (no ground sitting like Fantasmic) and the show was more or less designed for the new viewing area, so other areas will be so-so. The original numbers that I saw were a capacity of around 9,000 for the show, but since then I have read the estimated capacity is 7,000 or less which sounds like a big problem. It will be interesting to see how much their procedure for this show changes after the first few nights. It seems a little ridiculous to require that you run to the fastpass area within 10 minutes of park opening if you want to see a show that won't start until 12 hours later.

So weird with Alec, it has turned into just a little stuffed up nose. Maybe 2 separate issues but either way, weird weekend with him. Don't know what was going on but it can't be too bad as he continues to grow like a weed! He has always been a pretty hardy kid over the years!
Steve- pick away about Yosemite. I love the place. My only warning is the summers are CROWDED!!! Especially if you want to stay in the valley, those ressies book up as soon as they go on sale. We were actually going to try and stay in Merced but gave up when they were asking $300 a room at what looked like a Super 8 motel this last weekend!!! We just got an annual pass there this last October. I love the place almost as much as Disneyland or any where with an Ocean and warm!

Ariel's looked a little more along Alec's taste preferences. It is so maddening that Alec has to pay adult price now that he is 10. But then I complained bitterly when he turned 3, too. but he eats so little when we go out to eat. Oh well. I am hoping he is ok for the World of Color as he is real sensitive to loud noise. The dolphin experience was awesome! I really really love dolphins, so it was nice to swim, interact with and touch them. The only reason why I wouldn't do it again is because I've already have and I want to try something new. It is DEFINITELY worth the money though.

I finally got around to watching the video, how fun! What island did you go to? It made me remember the last time we went was Maui & I have a feeling, other than visiting the DVC resort, that is THE island for our family. When we went we made a diving trip reservation. 2 dives for the morning. My little sis did something to her knee and the fins were really bothering it. So they allowed us to snorkel instead (I'm such a good sis that I kept her company) and one of the places was Turtle cove (breeding grounds?) or something like that. We must have swam with about 20+ turtles off the shore of Maui! One day I want to swim with Mantas but that will have to wait.
Sorry for OT but I had to share.

Maliboomer is definitely on the wrong side of the show. A viewing area there would be looking at the rear of the show. Maybe it will be by the Jumping Jellyfish? It sounds like the viewing areas are pretty limited. I've seen and walked around the new viewing area they constructed and it just isn't that big

We've never gone to Ariel's Grotto, but we used to go to Wine Country Trattoria alot. It was pretty good and the prices were reasonable. From what I have read it looks like their menu is changing (getting more expensive) which isn't a good sign.

Hey everyone,

OK - I think we're all like family now so I'll share...

My math final was tonight and it did not go so well. I got a 66% (D) on the final. My overall grade in the class is a 75.

I guess it's good news in that I passed the class, so I don't have to take it again. What's sad is that this is the lowest (single and overall class grade) I've gotten in college I worked so hard to keep a high GPA, and now that's about shot! Also...I have to take the next level up in order to get my Bachelors - what's a girl to do?!?!

The additional good news is that this only affects my Associates GPA. Since this class doesn't transfer it won't affect my GPA for CalState (Bachelors) when I transfer.

I'm just glad this semester is over!

That aside, only 235 more days until our cruise!

Good luck with World of Color (to everyone that's going)! There's no way I'm going to battle the crowds in the dead of summer, especially since it doesn't sound like it will run very smoothly for a while. I think Ryan and I will wait to go when the crowds and temps lessen, probably in October! But, whoever goes to see it please let us know all about it, we'd love to hear!

I don't remember who was talking about Maui, but I will agree - Maui is the BEST! I was super sad when I found out that the DVC property was being built on Oahu. But, at least it will be there! Maybe I will FINALLY get Ryan to take me to Hawaii! (He has never been)

Also, I asked who everyone's favorite character/movie is/are but I didn't share mine. My favorite character is probably Elliott! As far as my favorite movie, well, that's impossible to say because I have SO MANY! I truly love the stuff from my childhood: Little Mermaid, Lion King, Aladdin; Rescuers, etc. but I also LOVE a lot of the older movies: Pete's Dragon, Bed-knobs and Broomsticks, Swiss Family Robinson, Happiest Millionaire, Pollyanna, Mary Poppins, and others. I don't know, it's impossible to choose! I will say though that I HATE tinker bell ! I really don't like that witch!

Kirsten - We liked the Oregon Zoo but really loved the Woodland Park Zoo. It's easily one of my favorites anywhere. It's a must-do the next time we are there. We also went to Pt. Defiance in WA which was okay. We also really liked Northwest Trek (I think it was called?) that was like a safari through the forest. We saw a lot of animals there too. There is a neat little drive-through place in central Oregon but the name is escaping me.

I don't know if there is more than one zoo in Vancouver but we went to one there that wasn't very good. It looked like someone threw up some cyclones fences in a dry field. They did have a nice aquarium in Stanley Park though.

Cathy - I've read great things about Mazatlan Frank on CC. He's been on there for a while and has a good following.

Sue - Thanks for the tips about Yosemite. Since we don't live more than a day's drive, we are flexible enough to go at a non-peak time, maybe before the kids get out of school or before they go back. We only have one more year before Emma goes to Kindergarten and will lose some flexibility.

More fans of Maui here! It's the only island we've visited but we fell in love with it. We stayed in a co-worker's condo in Kihei but spent almost every day in Lahaina or Ka'anapali (sp?). Our first time ever snorkeling was right there on the beach at Black Rock. What a great trip!

I hear ya about eating like a bird. It killed us to pay all that $$$ for Emma to take two bites and then focus all her attention on the characters. At restaurants with regular menus, we always just have her eat off our plates. I can't imagine how it must be to pay adult price. I guess we are still a little lucky for another 5-6 years.

Ryan - I'm looking at a map and am wondering if the best viewing area might be between the old Golden Dreams and Golden Zephyr. That seems pretty much centered on the bay. We will have a little time to wait and read the reviews but our 60-day window for booking dining for our September trip will be here before we know it.

I wonder how many people will be lined up at DCA for opening, make a dash for fast passes, and then maybe take a quick spin on Toy Story before heading to Disneyland for the day until their WOC passes are good. If we don't get a dining package, we might just have to do that one day.

Jessica - Congratulations on getting through your math final. At least you can breathe a sign of relief now. I've had semesters where I would have given anything for a 75%!

Very cool cake. Emma loves Tinkerbell but she only really knows her from the new DVDs. I was a little caught off guard at what a snot Tink was in the original Peter Pan movie. You know, you make me feel like an old man when you say you love movies from your childhood like Little Mermaid, Lion King and Aladdin!

On another note, our new DCL DVD just came in the mail. I can't wait to watch it. Hopefully it is a little different than last year's. I also noticed on Netflix, they have a Disney Cruise DVD. It's from 2010 and appears to be different than the Travel Channel special. Has anyone seen this? I'm bummed that it isn't available for watching live.

This is the part where you all stone me. I'm not really a Disney fan I love their Pixar movies, but the regular Disney movies never did much for me. I've got a few that I enjoyed quite a lot (Alladin), but generally speaking, they weren't my cup of tea. But I DO love how family-fied Disney cruises seem and I think it'll be a great match for us. (I don't dislike Disney, and I don't have anything against them, I just never really got into them : ) My kids, who are about to turn six next week, love Disney, but have limited knowledge of them.

This is the part where you all stone me. I'm not really a Disney fan I love their Pixar movies, but the regular Disney movies never did much for me. I've got a few that I enjoyed quite a lot (Alladin), but generally speaking, they weren't my cup of tea. But I DO love how family-fied Disney cruises seem and I think it'll be a great match for us. (I don't dislike Disney, and I don't have anything against them, I just never really got into them : ) My kids, who are about to turn six next week, love Disney, but have limited knowledge of them.

No stoning from us , but I will admit that I was shocked to read that! How could someone not totally love Disney?!? Whether you're a Disney fanatic or not though, you'll love the cruise. I know many people who don't have kids and/or don't even like Disney, but they won't sail with anyone else. I will also admit that it's a little strange to be on a Disney message board if you don't like Disney, kind of ironic! Either way though, you're more than welcome here! We Disney fanatics are nice people!

Jessica - Congratulations on getting through your math final. At least you can breathe a sign of relief now. I've had semesters where I would have given anything for a 75%!

Very cool cake. Emma loves Tinkerbell but she only really knows her from the new DVDs. I was a little caught off guard at what a snot Tink was in the original Peter Pan movie. You know, you make me feel like an old man when you say you love movies from your childhood like Little Mermaid, Lion King and Aladdin!

I HATE Tinker Bell, for that very reason! Anytime a cast member says something about tinker bell I go into a tirade about how horrible she is and that she's an attempted murderess! It's TRUE! In the first Peter Pan movie (her original film), she tried to kill Wendy! Then, I'm told, int he 2nd one she tried to kill Wendy's daughter! That's not cool! I don't understand how she made it on the good/princess list - she should be on the villain list!

Thanks, I liked the cake. Well, I liked the image and the dots, but it didn't taste very good. (Sugar free. Ryan's tasted much better). Here's a pic of his. It has haunted mansion wallpaper on the sides, and the hatbox ghost on the top.

Now, the Elliott and Haunted Mansion cakes were with just the two of us for our Disneyland birthday trips. Last year was Ryan's 30th birthday and we had a party at his mom's house. I made the cake, and this is it! (yes, I made the cake AND hand-piped the face on from scratch with no stencil)!

Jessica-You are amazing! The Mickey Cake looks better to me (at least more edible) than the other 2. I used to love making cakes with my Mom when I was younger. I even remember a cut-out cake book. You would take regular cakes, cut them up and create things with them. We made some crazy stuff! But yours is great!!

OK, I did it. I made our ressies for dinner @ Ariel's and got a bit of inside info. I'm sure I should post this somewhere else but I thought I would share it with all of you. The CM's that make ressies haven't gotten the full scoop but they have a meeting about it tomorrow and then they will "experience" the whole fast pass and viewing of WOC on Monday & Tuesday.
The other info she gave me was the order in which people will get viewing. The people who purchase the Ariel's Grotto or the Trattoria dinner's will get "premium viewing", then the people who purchase the box "picnic" meals will get the next best area, then the people with fast passes. She said that from what she gathered that the fast pass area will probably be off to the side a bit. Now this is all what she told me from what little bit of info she had.

Yarina was it you that had ressies, too? Jeff wanted to go for Father's Day, which is the 20th, is that the same day as yours? It wasn't planned as I wanted to go weekday so it would be less crowded but it is Father's Day after all.
