Disney with DD and DDBF are you Crazy Nuts: Leaving and Final Thoughts

Soaring is boring???? I think not. I like Soaring; the ride gives me time to relax.

QUOTE]

Oops, I just reread my quote, It sounds :snooty:, I was teasing you about Soaring. I do like the ride but I am so laid back that boring is my style. :goodvibes

Not snooty at all. Tease away, others have. I know I am in the minority and can take it. Some people do not like Mission Space which is my favorite ride in all of WDW.

Great updates! The Poly pool seems kind of small - I'd like to try it out someday though, when the kids are older. EWWWW about those kids in the lake - don't they have signs posted saying not to get in the lake?
Another Soarin fan here - the technology and innovation of that ride are incredible to me, not at all borin'!

The Poly pool is kind of small but DD & BF had fun especially on the slide. It was just a little too crowded for me. I was not supposed to get water in my ears and there were a lot of kids splashing around (including my own). No unruly behavior just having fun. We wanted to say we did all of the monorail pools (the reason they stood in the Contemporary’s pool) but skipped the Grand Floridian. Maybe next time. Never thought much of the pool hopping thing but it was interesting to camp out at another resort.

There were signs posted about staying out of the lakes but I forgot to take a picture of one. Would have pointed it out but I did not see any parents around.

Soarin is a good ride, I just would rather spend the time required doing other things. Maybe if the Soarin gods let me in again, I will change my opinion.

Wow - I go away for a few days and there's so much to catch up on - and all of it good!

We stayed at the Poly a few years ago and really enjoyed it - it is a lovely resort and a great place to watch the fireworks from.
We also rent the little boats for a trip round the lakes every time we go. They are such fun mostly (I did have one stall on me in right in the path of the (fairly distant-at first) Ferryboat one time :scared: and I just couldn't get it restarted. Eventually got it going just as the rescue boat showed up with the Ferryboat tooting away like crazy:eek:)

Lots of lovely pictures from Epcot as well - I love the one with the monorail in front of the golf ball. Its a shot I keep hoping to get but never do. I have never been on Mission Space yet - not sure if I'll ever do it but I have to disagree with you about Soarin' - I love it! That and the new Spaceship Earth - the little cartoon characters with pasted on head shots are just sooo funny:rotfl2:.

The Ferryboat story is interesting and funny considering it turned out OK. Sounds like something that would happen to us. I did not post the pictures of the cartoon characters with my head shot because they were really bad. I was looking down taking pictures and they looked really goofy. And yes I know, I am probably the only person who does not like Soarin. A burden I have to carry.

See what I mean?

Day 6 Part 2: Sunday, June 14 AKA Bev, Kim and Tink

When we exited the land on our way to TT, DD innocently asks, “Why don’t we go Club Cool so BF can try some of the drinks there?” I forgot about it but this was part of an evil plot she decided on when we first planed the trip. DDBF must try BEVERLEY! Sneaky kid. Don’t know where she gets that from. A couple of the machines were not dispensing Bev so we had to hunt around for one. She pours Bev for both of them and I asked them to wait so I could get a picture.

DDBF looked more confused then grossed out
IMG_5545-1.jpg

Go ahead take a bigger sip. Gotcha.
IMG_5544-1.jpg

It was fast pass time for Test Track so we headed over there. When we got there, I was a little surprised that wait times were still not bad. About 35 minutes. Overall, crowds were not overpowering today.

Another ride on TT
IMG_5546-1.jpg

All that hair prep time gone to waste
IMG_5547-1.jpg

These next pictures scare me to death. DD has threatened to take the written exam for her restricted driver’s license. You can now take the test online and I told her it was her responsibility to study and take it. I was not getting involved other than paying for the test. So far she has not taken it yet. Yippee, although I know it is only a matter of time.

IMG_5549-1.jpg

Earlier while they were riding Soarin, I went to the kiosk that dispensed the Kim Possible reservation times and got us a pass. The CM there explained the game and it seemed pretty simple. I hesitated because I was not sure when we would get over there but knew it would be after the reserved time. He told me it was OK to go anytime after the time on the ticket.

Exiting TT, we were going to head over to Norway and pick up the Kimmunicator. They instead wanted to head to Animal Kingdom. I bid them happy travels and told them to just stay in touch. After making my way to the stand near Norway, I gave the CM my pass. I let him know there were supposed to be three of us but the two kids backed out. He said, “Yea, I hear that all the time from the adults who want to play.” “No really, they were supposed to be here but they backed out.” He was right though. They were my cover because I really wanted to try this.

He punches some things on the computer and says that my mission will be in China which is one of his favorite places. He hands over the Kimmunicator, tells me how it works and sends me on my way. It is kind of neat. You are sent on clues to foil the evil monkeys or something like that. The clues are somewhat easy but I did get lost a couple of times. One was not my fault because the place was covered by a tarp. The goal is to go to the right spot, push the button and not to spoil anything, “things happen” that lead you to the next step.

It was good that I was assigned China because I never go there. I do not shop and hate to stand around with anyone who wants to shop so there was not much reason to go into the stores here. But I have to admit there are some neat things to see.

No, I was not tempted to do the falling dominos thing here. OK, I was but didn’t.

IMG_5552-1.jpg

So I complete my mission and drop off the phone. Now what to do? It was hot. Let me restate that. IT WAS HOT! Did I mention that the heat index was over 100 every day we were there? Stumbled my way to the International Gateway and saw the United Kingdom down the hill. Thinking why not, I went to the Rose and Crown Pub. Believe it or not, this is the first time I stepped foot into here. Nice place. Not too crowded, the AC was pumping and the guests looked like they were having a good time.

Glanced at the menu but wasn’t really hungry. Thought about having a cocktail because I do not drink good beers, only their watered down versions. Decided against it and left to go back in the heat. Not before taking a couple of pictures though.

IMG_5556-1.jpg

Really neat bar. It is now on my to do list.

IMG_5558-1.jpg

Since I was heading to BCV and not BW, I didn’t think to detour over to ESPN. I love that place but did not make it this trip. Next time. Back at the room, I found two intruders. Instead of heading directly to Animal Kingdom, the kids were taking a break and having a snack in the room. They left a little while after I got back so I was left alone to chill out.

Read, relaxed but did not nap. Call from the kids and they were having a fun time. Wait times were bad but they did do Cali and Everest. I also think they did Safari. There was a debate on waiting for them at the hotel or meeting them in the MK. Finally decided to wait for them.

When they got back to the room it did not take them FOREVER to get ready to go to the MK. It was Extra Magic Hours so we had time. When we got there, I thought about trying the Plaza Restaurant but they were closing down. I tried to bribe the CM at the host station with a dollar to let us in. He laughed. Noticed that he had a Mickey sparkly thing on his cheek and asked if DD and BF could have one. Sure.

The one thing I wanted to do was wishes. What did DD want to do? Goofy’s Barnstormer. Huh? Against all of my park touring knowledge we went there and had a 30 minute wait. You know if you do this later in the night you can walk on and probably ride it over and over again. Well we did it anyway.

Wow, what a thrill ride. I have to admit that it was fun. But if we did it later, it would be a walk on!
IMG_5426.jpg

The two of them being Goofy on Goofy (Notice the Mickey on DD’s face. It made it through the ride)
IMG_5424.jpg

Since we were in Toon Town we visited Minnie and Mickey’s places

Do not know why she had the need to go to Toon Town but what the heck. It was getting close to Wishes time so we moved over to Main Street. It was crowded but we were able to get a good spot close to the Castle. Behind us was packed but this area was pretty open. We were even able to sit on the ground and have an unobstructed view. My thinking was that the rest of the masses staked out further back so they could exit the parks as soon as it was over.

Wishes is my all time favorite fireworks show. Just love it. Tink flew just to the right of us. The picture was all blurry so I did not post it. The castle zip line would be a fun thing to do at least once.

IMG_5510.jpg

Sitting there with DD and DDBF was nice. No, my eyes did not get misty, it was smoke from the fireworks. Yea, that is what it was.

From there we headed to Tomorrow Land. Buzz was a 40 minute wait and while I wanted to do it, I wasn’t going to wait. Next was a quick bite to eat at Cosmic Rays. I love the chicken here and they had fries ($15.94). DD was eyeing my mashed potatoes so I gave what was left of them to her. After a ridiculous time in the bathroom (them not me) I was then headed for Frontier Land to ride Splash and Big Thunder. I assumed they were on the same track but we pass Dumbo and everything comes to a halt.

Dumbo was a 35 minute wait and to me it wasn’t worth it. Me: “In an hour there will be no one in line.” Must have been because they were shut out last time that DD responded zombie like: “Must ride Dumbo.” Me: “Have you forgotten everything I taught you?” DD: “Must ride Dumbo.” So Dumbo it was. For them.

We split up at that point. Telling them to keep in touch, I headed to Haunted Mansion then Splash and Big Thunder. All were good. The final ride for me was the Jungle Cruise. The skipper was OK. From there it was out of the park and on the bus.

I got back to the resort 1ish and they got back after 2:00. Their final ride was also JC. They said they had a good captain but the rest of the group was blah so the two of them became animated. When asked for a response they hooped and hollered while the other people acted like they were at a golf tournament (quiet). They had a good time at the MK and I had a good time.

All in all a good day. Seems I cannot get into commando mode and was content to see what I wanted then chill. They were a little more ambitious. One thing that I forgot to mention was on the way out of the MK I bought a citrus swirl ($3.08). Mmmmm. Love these things. Reminds me of creamsicles when I was a kid.

UP Next: Water Park? OK, by now you know we bagged that idea and did something else.

Loved tonight's installment, the girls look so happy.:thumbsup2 And I have to say that I absolutely LOVE that your DD is saving and wearing all her SAB wristbands!!:cool1: What a fantastic idea, please tell her that I loved seeing them.:) Can't wait for more!

You guys packed a lot into that day! I love that your DD still has some little girl in her, wanting to go on Dumbo. Awwww.
I have always fantasized about going down the Tink zipline too! Everytime I have seen wishes, I've thought about how that girl has the best job!

They were having fun but how could you not at Disney? She did the wristband thing last year with the Extra Magic Hours (when they had wristbands). She kept them on until soccer started and they made her take them off. This year she had to take them off sooner because of soccer camp. I will tell her you like the look. She can't wait to get more.

They got in even more than I did. It was a fun day. She does like the classics. On a recent trip the one ride we had to do was Peter Pan. She even made us watch the movie before we left. DD would quit school and move to Orlando if they hired her for the Tink job. When we were in NY the camp she went to had a zip line and she was the only one who would do it backwards.

As an aside, years ago when I was at Disneyland I took the Walking in Walt’s Footsteps tour. The guide told us about their Tink. According to him, she was an elderly lady that had the job for years and would not give it up. To end the flight she would land in a bunch of mattresses. Don’t know how true that is but it was a funny story.

Loving your TR! Sounds like your commando days are behind you! Looks like you all had fun! Can't wait to see what happened in place of the waterpark.

Three parks in one day! That's something we've never tried but sounds like the girls had a lot of fun - good for them. We've never had a Beverley yet either although I have been on the lookout for Club Cool the past couple of trips I haven't found it yet - but then again not been trying that much really;)

I never knew it was a real person that did that!! I always thought it was just a stuffed dummy that they pushed off the castle!:lmao:

Yea, I'm caught up!!! Having traveling with my DD and DDGF's in the past I feel your pain!! I think I am enjoying your TR so much b/c it is happening to someone else and not me. On year DD brought a GF and after 3 days I was ready to ship her home:headache: At the time they were the age of your DD and DDBF. I wish I could say, "Hang in there it gets better!!!" It might take another 10 years before it gets better.... I just recently started liking my DD again and she is 22!!

You are right, even though I can still do commando (puffing out my chest) if I want to, I don't want to or need to any more. It was fun trip. Next segment maybe up later tonight or tomorrow morning. To give you a hint it involves the scariest thing for a family outing with me. Shopping.

Your Tink reference was pretty funny. I am laughing thinking about them throwing out a stuffed dummy. What if an appendage fell off?

My goal is to do all four parks in one day but then take a few days off to recover. They were troopers considering the heat. I do not know if it was cooler for your trip but it was one of the hottest trips I have experienced.

You need to try Beverly at least once but make sure there are no family members or cameras around. It comes from Italy, is very bitter and is supposed to be “an aperitif to enhance the appetite.” Bull. Bev has become a running joke with DD and me. Every trip to EPCOT she says she won’t do it but I talk her into it. She could not wait to have BF try it.

You are too funny. DDGF (I like this better than BF) was not the problem. She is always polite and if I asked her to do something it got done. In other words, she did everything to get invited back. Just like I am sure DD acts at their house. DD was sometimes the pain. Then again so was I at times. I am hanging in there. Don't have a choice.

The Sleeping Beauties were still sleeping when I woke up at about 6:30. Go figure. This was our bonus day. If it was not for Sunny, we would be packing to leave. It was decided last night not to burn a water park pass day but do something else. What? I don’t know.

While they were sleeping I decided to take some pictures.

Our back yard a few doors down from us

I saw a lot of rabbits back here. One thing that amuses me was the number of them I have seen all over WDW. It always made me wonder how did they control the population? I mean rabbits are rabbits right? Could this be a way? Curious minds want to know.
IMG_5523.jpg

After a while they stirred and got ready to leave. So what did I decide to do? Shop. The girls gasped. Yes dad was willing to go shopping. Well there was reason to my apparent madness. Paradiso 37 just opened at Downtown Disney and I wanted to try it. Plus DD needed to buy stuff for some friends.

We were on the way to the car but first we need some pictures with Ariel.

IMG_5528.jpg

By the time we parked near the Marketplace it was close to lunch time so we went to eat.

Outside the place
IMG_5533.jpg

The girls deciding what to eat. What do you want? I don’t know what do you want?
IMG_5535.jpg

While we were waiting, I called Member Services again to extend our stay to Tuesday and Wednesday. Since I got lucky and was able to add today, I got greedy and kept checking at both the front desk and Member Services to see about 2 more days. Why not? I have internet and if work needs to get done, I can do it from the room. DDBF’s parents are still in France and I still have some points. Plus I do not want the vacation to be over.

The CM on the line checked and said she could add a member rate for Tuesday and points for Wednesday. Sure, do it. Whoopee! She then said Oops and can you hold. I knew then that it was not going to happen. After a while she came back and apologized but said she made a mistake and nothing was available. Oh well. I knew it was a long shot. We went on with lunch.

We started out with chips and salsa. Tasty.

The place is well themed and laid out

IMG_5538.jpg

They have an outside seating area to people watch. It was too hot so we stayed in the AC.
IMG_5540.jpg

They split the South American Crazy Corn and the Mac & Cheese Bites. Both were good. The corn was roasted with plenty of butter.
IMG_5545.jpg

IMG_5546.jpg

I had the Tres Tacos with chicken, pork and steak. Also good but the steak was the best.
IMG_5547.jpg

No desert because we had plans for later. The total came to $57.39 without tip and no discount. This is a good addition to Downtown Disney. The food was good, the server was attentive and the décor was inviting. No, it does not replace the Comedy or Adventurers Clubs but a good addition.

From there it was shopping time. Oh goody. On the way to the World of Disney we bowed our heads in remembrance of the two PI icons previously mentioned. When I heard they were closing last year, a quick trip was planned so we could say our proper goodbyes. That is how BF got invited to join us. They are both into drama and loved the improve skills of the cast at the CW.

The balloon again. Both times we were there it was not operating because of winds.
IMG_5554.jpg

I don’t know how big of a hit this is going to be
IMG_5555.jpg

That Mecca of Disney shopping
IMG_5548.jpg

DD was on a budget but was able to get gifts for everyone and not break the bank. Plus they both finished in a reasonable time so I did not go ballistic. Can’t add any more pictures so the next part will come later.

Up Next: The rest of Downtown Disney and the last night’s activities

You guys packed a lot into that day! I love that your DD still has some little girl in her, wanting to go on Dumbo. Awwww.
I have always fantasized about going down the Tink zipline too! Everytime I have seen wishes, I've thought about how that girl has the best job!

Tink at MK is actually a Chinese man.

Enjoying your TR and pics

IMG_5523.jpg

A question from one of your groupies, what is that strange box? A trap of sorts? Or is it just a common container for something and I am seeing it at the wrong angle?

We stayed in the "resort" in the Badlands in May and there were rabbits EVERYWHERE.

More nice photos and Paradiso looks interesting - must try it next time we go to DTD

We saw the balloon when we went and I was tempted to try it out - but later when we saw how high it went I was so glad I didn't!
