Disney with a broken arm

horror of all horrors, i fell about 3 weeks ago and broke my arm. originally i thought 4-6 weeks casted, no big deal for our trip in mid september.

well i have been splinted for 3 weeks, 3 trips back to the ortho surgeon and still ? surgery. No cast, just a huge splint and brace. i am beginning to lose hope that i will be back to normal by our trip.

So, here is the question -- obviously i can go on easy rides, shows, and plenty of food -- but will the cm's not let me on other rides (like my fav ToT) just trying to prepare myself.

Please give me good news -- or ideas for what else i can do while DH goes on rides!

I'd ask your ortho what he thinks. If he thinks itwont do any more damage I'd go and have fun. But you wouldn't want to have him tell you no, go and ride, then find out you did more damage and do have to have surgery. I hope it all works out well.

You will be allowed on any attraction as long as there is no chance of your injuring someone else and that, if there are restraints, that you can fit properly in the seat with the restraint.

However, you may not want to ride anything where your arms are flung around, or where you have to firmly grip a bar with your hands.

Also, be aware that some of the bumpier rides, which you might normally be fine on, could aggravate your arm. Things like the safari ride in AK and Dinosaur are ones that people with injuries don't always think about avoiding, but for some injuries they could do you more damage than a straight-forward roller-coaster. If you're unsure about any rides, you could always have someone else in your group 'test-drive' the ride for you, or you can ask the CM at the entrance questions about the ride.

As you don't have a cast, I'm guessing you don't have to worry so much about getting it wet? If this is the case, it will make life a bit easier for you (though it won't make it inordinately difficult if you can't).

Other than that, it is pretty much all down to your judgment. If you think you can hold on to a roller-coaster with one hand (or no hands ;)), without doing yourself any damage, then nobody will try and stop you. I think the idea of talking to your Ortho is a good one, just to make sure they don't have any ride-related concerns.

Hope you have a great trip, and wishing you a speedy recovery! :thumbsup2

Watch youtube of rides to see which ones are violent and send you bouncing or veering to one side or another. CMs will not stop you from riding a ride unless they feel you could be hurt, could hurt someone, impede in the operation of the ride, or if something might come flying off. Primeval Whirl is one ride to avoid as you do get slung around a bit.

Talk to the orthopedist to find out how fragile the arm is. Is it a minor hairline break or somethng worse? You could use a sling to keep the arm in place on some rides. I seen one that straps to the body. Chiin up and hope for the best.
