Disney with 2 month old and 3 year old?

We're scheduled to go to Orlando at the end of May/beginning of June. It wasn't my choice but the in-laws want everyone to meet up their for their 50th anniversary. (And they don't know I'm currently pregnant). The drive is 7.5 hours for us without kids. DS doesn't travel that great so it will be a lot longer. I'm due with our second child in March. (Even if I get another 42 weeker, I'll give birth in March).

Any suggestions for doing Disney with a baby so young and a VERY active toddler? I'll be breastfeeding, so bottles aren't an issue. (My 26 month old DS still breastfeeds twice a day even!) I'll plan on using a sling since strollers can be a pain and DS hated strollers. I'm concerned about the heat and also wondering what I'll be up to. DS was a much more difficult baby than most and I can't help but think of that. If it wasn't for my in-laws 50th, I definately would not go.

Am I doomed for an awful drive followed by several days being stuck in the condo? Or is there a chance this trip will actually be fun for me? I'm sure DS and DH will have a great time, but I'm dreading it for me and the new baby.

I took both my daughters at two months. The first one was in January and it just happened to be freezing! I remember being cold way more than I remember having a two month old. She wasn't the easiest baby, but it was still OK. The second time I went with a 19 month old and a 2 month old. We took a double stroller and a Baby Bjorn soft baby carrier. It was one of my favorite Disney trips ever. I too breastfeed and had no problems finding comfy, semi-private seats to do so while others stood in line, then we would baby swap & I would ride. It was wonderful. Both girls took naps every day in the stoller. We drove down (14 hours!) We left at 4 am and brought a DVD player for our 19 month old. She immediately threw up (lovely) and then fell asleep until 8 am. We stopped, I nursed, we drove until lunch (Blue's Clues playing the entire time.) I nursed. We drove till 3 pm and stopped at a hotel. The next am we got up at 6 am and were in Orlando by 11 am. We did not go to the parks that day. I grocery shopped, napped, and swam at the pool. The next day we began and it was wonderful.

I think you can have a great time! I would suggest a stroller from home though, i too am all about carring my baby in a sling ( i own about 10 of them differant kinds). Naps would be nice to lay him in the stroller plus the 3 y/o will more then likely get tired and want to sit this would be nice to have the comfy stroller for him too!
I also wanted to say how AWSOME it is that you have bf you ds for this long ! I hope i make it to atleast 2 y/o with my dd this time around!

I would plan on going and just pace yourself. Plan on only a couple hours a day and hang out in the baby care centers alot to refresh yourself.

Also, will you be pumping? If you are, you could plan a night out to yourself and your DH since there would be others there to help out for a few hours.

Also for your DS, bring along one of those portable DVD/VCR players for the car. They are very cheap now. That will help. We drove 16 hours when my DD was 2 1/2 and it was a life saver --- now the whole potty business was another story, but at least she was entertained.

Finally, RE: Strollers, bring your stroller and you'll probably be pleasently surprised that your DS will ride in it by then. My DD (at the same age) REFUSED her stroller, now almost 3, she happily hops in when I ask. I've heard the same story from almost all my friends regarding their kids and strollers at age 2.

My MIL did the same thing to us. I had myself so worked up about traveling with a 3 month old and a crazy (in a good way) 3 year old, I have since calmed down and plan to just go with the flow. We are leaving in 6 days (yeah). I will let you know how we make out!!! I plan to have the stroller & baby bjorn. My oldest wasn't a stroller baby but this one is totally different!!!! Good Luck

We went with a four year old and a four month old and had a great time! Just take it easy as you go. As for the stroller I agree with the above posters to bring a stroller too, our smallest DD rode quite a bit in our stroller that layed flat, it gave us a chance to hook a small fan on to keep her cool while she napped.

Don't stress out to much, enjoy your pregnancy. Congratulations!

The first time we took our kids, the older one was 2 years and the baby was 4 months. We brought our own stroller and lots of diapers. I spent some time in the baby care center, but the baby was the easier than the 2 year old. You do need 2 parents to be there, so one can nurse and the other can take the older one on a ride. The baby just slept and looked around was just good baby. I nursed everywhere without any problems, especially on all of the boat rides and shows. We all had a great time.

I'm still not so sure about the stroller. I really don't see DS sitting in one. We've brought a stroller to the zoo and walked on and on - and DS still refused the stroller! However, I guess there really is a chance that this baby will tolerate them. I keep expecting another child like my first - which means that it won't be any more work than I expect. DS wouldn't even nap not on me until 11 months old!

We're buying a portable DVD player in the next couple weeks since I have to fly with DS, and not DH soon. I'll probably also invest in one of those toddler harnesses so I can handle DS in the airports on that trip. Will one of those be needed for Disney?

Family can only help so much. MIL is blind and FIL is from an era where the women changed all the diapers and did everything that was child-related. I'm sure my 18 year old niece would love to help with DS.

*I likely won't be pumping at all. Our relatives live far away and I really don't want to leave a 2 month old with someone they really don't know. Heck, when DS was 2 months old, I couldn't even leave him with DH due to frequent breastfeeding - and only the breast would ever calm him down.

I think you will have a great time!!! We are headed in Nov with two DS's - 3.5 and 6mos.

I just posted this on another thread, too, but I have a close friend who was giving me her best disney tips (they go at least once a year!) When it's time to nurse in MK (where I think we will be spending at least half our time!!!), head for Tomorrowland. The baby & I can ride the transit to nurse (it's about 20 min & it will be a little more exciting for Mommy than just sitting on a bench) and DH & DS can go on Buzz lightyear or the Speedway.

I was also shocked to learn that the baby can go on most rides - except for the ones with height restrictions!!! I know that probably sounds ridiculous but it makes me so excited for this trip. I have a sling that I use now & will be bringing with me but I read about the Ergo carrier on one of the posts here. I think I'm going to get one - it looks like it is very back friendly!
