I'm not sure if this has been covered in another post, but was wondering if anyone had heard when the new sail date for the Wish is since the Covid delay? Was hoping to do a cruise on it in March '22, but not sure if it will be sailing at that point now.

Nothing official has come from Disney. They still havent mentioned the steel cutting or keel laying which should be with in the next 2 months or so.

With that said, I would probably expect a 5 to 6 month delay at least for the Wish since all of the ships that are in the same time frame are being delayed about that length of time. It's possible that shell be done earlier but I wouldnt hold my breath

The Wish is "supposed" to be finished by the end of 2021 correct? Meaning that she probably won't be sailing until Summer '22?

In theory, assuming everything went to plan, with out the pandemic, she would float out late 21 roughly Octoberish and supposedly according to popular rumor, have a Jan 22 maiden. Disney has been extremely tight lipped about anything with the Wish, including her steel cutting which has come and gone and her pretty imminent keel laying. Most of what i can figure comes from 1 or 2 slips, and watching what the yard and other lines are doing. With the pandemic, and the slow down in the supply chains, my best swag, is roughly a 5 to 6 month delay, as that's what most of the other ships currently in the build cycle are taking.

Wait... Back up. I have been horribly out of touch with DCL lately due to work.

Did the Wish have her Keel Authentication? You said her steel is already cut? Do we know when she is going to get a building hall with a webcam? Just took a quick look and all I can see are the Acosma, Odyssey of the Seas, and Spirit of Adventure.

I did just read this which is depressing, although understandable.

Meyer Werft seeks to stretch construction
In the best case scenario, Meyer Werft will have to adjust its capacity in Papenburg from two large and one small ship per year to one large and one small ship. ‘Since we cannot expect any new building orders until 2023/24, we will try to stretch the current order book at all locations.’ The company is already in talks with its customers to this end. The result would be a cut of work performance by about 40 per cent.

Lol. I know the feeling.

The Wish had her steel cut in March but it was not publicized in anyway shape or form, and no mention of it from Disney. With Oddesey just about ready to float out, AidaCosma will take her place, in the back half of the dock,to finish her build. In the front part of that dock, which will be sectioned off, the Wish will be built. She most likely has several blocks next to Oddesey and Cosma. Just waiting in floor space in the dock itself. Disney has not publically said when her keel will be laid, though it has not happened yet. I would expect in the next 2 to 3 months at most to see that. Whether theres a public ceremony or not remains to be seen.

The actual ceremony is the first block is held over the keel blocks by several feet. Someone from Disney, with MW reps will place the keel coin on the keel block, and the block will be lowered on to the coin. The block will then be relifted and the coin placed somewhere on the ship. Havent found Fantasys yet but Dreams is in the 678 pub. I have a picture somewhere of it.

Personally Disney is doing a very poor pr job with the Wish.

I remember when the Dream and Fantasy were on their way, Disney was promoting and marketing those ships non-stop. So I agree that it is interesting that so little has been said about the Wish. Maybe it has something to do with COVID changing the schedule? Or that they are doing some drastic changes to the guest areas that it's taking them longer to finalize everything? Just pure speculation

Not sure on the why. I know theres been some considerable change at DCL in the last 2 years. Karl Holz retired, and Jeff Vahke took his place, and now Jeff is at the Parks. I forget who his replacement is ow. But that shouldn't stop Disney from using generic terms, like coming soon, or Sea Ya Real soon...... Theres still no excuse as the steel cutting was known well before the pandemic set in.

I think the problem is in this climate, any pr is bad pr because any mention of the travel industry causes people to get anxious or scornful. I thought the recent Disney parks reopening commercial was beautiful--it made me feel excited, hopeful, and joyful. Then I read a news article that panned the commercial and linked multiple online dark-comedy parodies themed around death and disease.

As an illustration, my coworkers on a team meeting call today were all in a tizzy when I said I might still go on my Disney World trip in August--they all just assumed I would cancel and lectured me about it. I think people are part holier-than-thou (I don't question their new haircuts or their maskless appearance at a panera on zoom meetings despite spiraling numbers locally, but they sure felt free laying into me about the risks of Disney World), part angry-jealous (who doesn't want a "real" vacation right now), and part genuinely scared (and for good reason--there is definitely a real risk, but i am hoping antibodies=immunity). But just goes to show you that a lot of people just don't want to hear about vacations right now, and I expect that is a big part of why Disney is keeping mum on the wish.

I just looked at MW Papenburg books. Assuming no line has canceled any ships, they have 6 ships on order, 3 for 22 and 3 for 23. So they should be good. After that is anyones guess. They havent updated their book past 23.

To an extent, I can understand it. But using the first steel, that was back in March prior to the pandemic being declared and theres no reason Disney couldnt have made an announcement in Jan.

As for the vacation/mask thing I can see both sides. Some people will/ are going to do certain things regardless. Some of it is based on specific reasons, some of them correct reasons and some of it is based on falsehoods and misinformation. It's like mine field trying to navigate who's who and why.

Disney is DEFINITELY very cautious about associating their Brand with negative connotations. I used to work in the airline industry, and we had an idea we approached Disney which would ahve made the travel experience in MCO smoother for anyone staying at a Disney resort. I can't give the details, but it involved the TSA lines. Between Disney and my company, we had the combined political clout to bend the TSA and MCO if needed. In the end, Disney decided against it for one reason and one reason only - they didn't want their brand associated with Airport TSA due to the POTENTIAL for bad press. So I could see them shying away from suggestions right now (I think that is part of the reason DCL has been so quiet even though Carnival and RCL are making considerable more noise).

However, I will say that as a fan (truly come the base word Fanatic) of DCL and WDW, I have been frustrated b the lack of hype from Disney Public Relations. If I were in charge, I would have been doing weekly videos of the parks, showing the animals being cared for, talking to the security guards, doing ANYTHING. I don't know... interview the feral cats in DL. :-) Just remind people that the parks are still there and waiting. But I guess Disney doesn't want to show empty parks (bad for pr?).

But short of a few big things (like the family sing a longs which I LOVED), Disney as a whole has been relatively quiet over the course of the pandemic.

I will add as well that I empathize with you. I am going to Disney in October (first time I could get away from work), and I have caught a lot of flack from people about my choice to travel. I won't get into the ins and outs or why I think it's safe. I just feel your frustration. For what it's worth, you got my support. :-)

Thanks, it’s definitely all very complicated right now. I have found some of the blogs have stepped up where disney has been silent in keeping Disney memories alive. I’m glad the parks are reopening and hope it goes well and does not have to go to a closure again.

I have enjoyed watching the penguins and flamingos roam our local zoo on tv. Would be kinda cute to see them looking for people or Mickey. Just dreaming here, but it would be so fun to see an elephant or giraffe walking with Mickey at some of the highly photogenic spots we all remember.
