Any recommendations? Would the new Disney universe game be appropriate for a 6 year old girl? How about Epic Mickey? Any others? We have a princess game and she likes it okay...but looking more for games she and DH may enjoy playing together.
Does it have to be Disney? My kids love Super Mario Brothers and Mario Kart. With Super Mario Bros., they can go through the levels together and if it gets too difficult for DD, she can "bubble" and float through a section while DH completes it.
We bought Epic Mickey last year (more for us than DD ) She was just barely 5 at the time and was able to navigate through some parts of the levels. She loved playing it, although some parts were too difficult for her. I should also mention that we are not a big video game family. We play maybe an hour a week average so DD is not as game savy as other kids her age. I think a 6 year old that can play other games without much assistance would probably enjoy Epic Mickey and be able to enjoy it more as their skills grew. I did notice that in Walmart's Black Friday ad they have Epic Mickey as one of their $19.99 games.
I have been considering Disney Universe. It does look like it would be easier and geared towards younger kids, but entertaining enough for older kids and adult kids. Epic Mickey is kind of dark, and some parts could possibly scare younger kids. Plus Disney Universe has a multi player mode where Epic Mickey does not. DD turns 6 a few weeks after Christmas and I'm thinking this might be a good game for us all to enjoy. I just wish it was going to be on sale for $19.99.
I can't believe I almost forgot about TSM for the Wii. It looks like it is just like the TSM ride at HS, plus a few extras. Comes with 2 pairs of 3-d glasses (cheap paper ones) and can have up to 4 players I believe? It would be a great game for a 6 year old. DD's grandparents have already purchased this game for her for Christmas. I anticipate the glasses falling apart soon after we start playing and I was able to find 4 pairs of hard plastic 3-d type glasses on ebay for 10 cents each with free shipping. The glasses aren't the high tech ones, they are the one lens blue and one red variety so replacement glasses should be easy and cheap to find, especially on ebay. I believe this game is only $19.99 as well and it really does look like a ton of fun!
We have the Wii TSM and Epic Mickey. DD7 enjoys TSM (more than I do).
Epic Mickey was a gift for me. It seems pretty good, but I wound up not getting very far in it yet. I found it rather confusing/difficult, and while I'm sure I can work through that, it's hard to do with a 7 year old screaming that Epic Mickey scares her. And I've not gotten around to doing it during the school hours.
So, if your DD is not the sort to like dark rides and scary stuff, I would not suggest that game.
DD6 really likes Disney Sing It. She got it for Christmas last year plays it more than any other wii game, I think. The most surprising thing is that DH likes to play it with her, too! I didn't think he'd sing along, but he really belts out those Mary Poppins tunes!
Disney's Think Fast. My sister got it at DTD on our last vacation. We always play it, it is a Disney trivia game. I am looking for it for Christmas this year. I have seen it online but was hoping to pick it up at a store. It is great for a varied age group. My little 3yr old DN will get some of the answers before us adults.
I second Think Fast. My kids (5 & 7) love it! They also like Toy Story Mania and Dance Dance Revolution Disney. I have to admit, I like the DDR Disney probably more than they do!
We've rented a number of games based on Disney movies and they were good ones to rent, but not to have. There wasn't enough in the game to keep the kids interested long-term.
Some non-Disney games that they like are:
All the Lego games: Star Wars, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean--Jack Sparrow is hilarious on that and he is now DD's favorite character!
Mario Kart
Mario and Sonic at the Olympics
Rio
Carnival games
Guilty Party was a big hit in our house. Epic Mickey IMO would be way too hard for a 6 yr old. We are a big gaming family and every one of us eventually abandoned it. Too hard for the kids to play on their own, and the adults were too annoyed with the design. The angles are akward. Overall.. it was a disappointment in this house.
