Disney Wedding without the help of Disney

My girl friend really wants to get married at Disney but think it costs too much. We were talking and thought "why do we need Disney to help us"? We were thinking about just going into the park on her wedding day and me marrying her in line to the haunted mansion. The entire group (20 at most) would just get in line. When we were in front of the tombstones I would just quietly marry them and then say very loudly "I know pronounce you husband and wife, you may now kiss the bride". Then we all ride the Haunted Mansion. We would then just go eat a late lunch at either CP or 1900 Park Fare. She is not planning on wearing a tradition wedding dress. I don't know exactly what she will wear but it is going to be casual.

Do you think we can get away with this?

i doubt it & personally i wouldnt risk it. its againest disney policy to get married on disney property without dftw. you would get kicked out of the park or even your hotel if you got caught. which isnt something i would want to risk on my wedding day or for my guests. also if you tried to pull this off, she couldnt wear a wedding dress inside the park, they wouldnt let her in. reconsider a disney intimate wedding, a swan wedding with justmarry or an offsite location ie leu gardens, one of the chapels in kissimmee, etc. you only get married once make it special.

I totally agree. All weddings on Disney property must go through Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings department, and just as twojo mentioned, you can get asked to leave Disney property if you break the rules. It’s just not a good idea.

I have to agree with twojo21...it's just not worth the risk if you get caught...and just not something one should do. You wouldn't consider walking into a church somewhere and just performing a quick ceremony without anyone knowing, would you?

Has your friend really looked at the price of an Intimate wedding at Disney? We did an intimate wedding there in September and our total costs were about $6k.

I'm not sure what other options your friend is considering for a wedding, but anything under $10k (which would give her A LOT of options/extras for an intimate ceremony) is a BARGAIN in most areas. When I was planning my wedding, I remember reading somewhere that the average wedding costs between $15k and $25k...that's more than what a Disney wedding (or at least an intimate) costs...heck, even a custom wedding at Disney only has a minimum of $10k (for a weekday)...

As twojo21 mentioned, there are other options for a wedding in the Orlando area, with a great Disney honeymoon or dinner options, or even a "grand gathering" for all the guests...

Another option that some couples (especially gay couples looking to have an commitment ceremony which Disney does not do) have done is to have an 'in room' wedding. They rent a suite - like the grand villa at a DVC resort - and hold the wedding in the room, and have Room service 'cater' it. Personally I wouldn't do this, but if you are on a really tight budget, it might be an option. Disney wouldn't stop the wedding from happening in the room, but once you are out in public, the chances of a comando wedding being broken up are pretty high. I wouldn't want my vows being interupted!

if they can come up with $2200~$2500, Swan wedding is a good alternative for intimate wedding w/ 20 guests.
high risk of breaking disney rules on wedding day isn't exactly fun...

suite idea isn't so bad though...one with a balcony perhaps. just don't make it so obvious perhaps?

We did talk a little about getting a MK view room at Cont. She is looking more into an intimate wedding. She wants to get married this July 4th weekend. I hope she can get in.

Once we both realized that we could get kicked out of Disney, we both decided this is not the route to go. We did not think Disney would kick us out. Now we know.

Wow! That's a busy weekend anyway! I hope she can get something at least close to what she wants!! :)

Is there anywhere to find rules such as these about Disneyland?? I never know where to find them.

I know the DFTW people told me I couldnt wear my dress in the park and I couldnt draw attention with a big photo shoot.

there is a website called suite disney. That has all the pics and tours of all the rooms at WDW and DL. We considered having a suite wedding for a moment. There is alot of really big rooms. I was given an idea from someone at WDW to use the Boardwalk Inn Garden Suite and have the cermony outside in the garden of the suite. You could also use the Comtempary suite and do it durning the Wishes fireworks.
But I just wanted to let you know that some of the suites can run 1000+ I even heard of a couple being 1500-2000 so I would look into an intimate then they would take care of everything!
The Garden suite isnt to bad pricewise though!

Disneyland has similar rules. It's just that they are hard to find. Guerilla weddings as they are sometimes refered to do occur but if you draw enough attention to yourselves then the possibility of getting caught is not worth it. At least IMO. Athough if you really wnat to find out the details then you could probably call guest relations, City Hall, or FTW department to find out what the reprocutions would be if caught.

DL FTW got rid of their intimate package years ago and it's a shame as it is what people want. I guess the demand must not have been great enough.

However, if this is the route that you are chosing then I would strongly adhear to what FTW said about not drawing attention to yourselves as there are some cast members who are big sticklers to company policy.

Again, even holding the wedding in the garden of one of the Garden Suites could result in your ceremony being interrupted. While one CM might say its ok, there's
no guarantee the the CM that walks by when you are saying your vows is going to think what you are doing is ok. Personally I dont think its worth risk.

My sister got married in Orlando through a site called www.orlandoweddings.com (I think that's the name of it) because she wanted more people there than the intimate wedding, but less than the custom. She was married about 20 minutes away from Disney at Cypress Grove Park, which was beautiful, and everyone went to Whispering Canyon afterwards for dinner. The night before, we had the rehearsal dinner at O'Hana followed by a fireworks cruise. I think the whole thing cost them right around $4k.
