Disney, Water parks and rain (oh my!)

T minus 8 days - planning on spending the first afternoon at Blizzard Beach. Due to the nature of families coming from multiple locations (some driving and some flying) I don't think we're going to be able to make BB until around noon (which is OK because it closes at 7)

But for some odd reason I thought rain in Florida wouldn't be an issue in the summer (ha!) and, of course, it's predicted to rain that day! (just showers right now which might not be a show stopper)

I'm aware of tropical weather patterns (just not when doing long term planning for some reason... ) so I know that the weather can and will change at a moment's notice so the forecast might get better or worse until the day of!

However, I've got reservations for a Polar Patio which I can cancel and get a refund at 24 hours in advance. The patios have umbrellas but aren't covered so I'm gathering they have some rain protection. But I'm wondering if it does rain if the park will be emptier anyway and wouldn't need the patios to begin with... Decisions, decisions...

How does everyone else deal with waterparks in the rain?
(I WAS smart enough to make afternoon FP+s at MK though... one of which is the afternoon parade which I'm sure isn't sheltered from the rain... )

If there is no lightning, going to a water park in the rain is great. You're wet anyway! Lots of people leave when it rains so the lines are short. DD and I really enjoy the water parks in the rain. Now, if there is lightning, they will not let you in the water, so that is a bummer. But, the storms often pass relatively quickly and, if you wait it out and others don't, you'll have the place to yourself.

I've never rented a patio, so I can't comment on that. We just shove our stuff in a locker and go do the attractions.

Huh? Why would rain be a problem at a waterpark? You go there to get wet, the rain will also get you wet.

The only time I would think there may be a problem is if there is lightning, then things would close, but just rain shouldn't be a problem.

That being said, generally it will rain every day in the summer months, usually about 30 minutes in the afternoon, based on our experience at least. When we have gone, you could almost set your watch by it 3:30-4:00. So, we just planned on being indoors during that time in the theme parks, no problem. In the water parks, we have never cared if it's raining or not, like I said, you go there to get wet anyway and really there isn't much else to do in the water parks besides getting wet.

I'm thinking along the lines of torrential downpours. Obviously if you're underwater that's not an issue.

Torrential downpours with no lightning is no big deal. Downpours like that don't typically last all that long. You get wet and your stuff gets wet. We just never have any stuff (again, in a locker).

Hi there i just booked my Polar Patio for August and i was told that if the park closes due to inclement weather you will receive a refund....meaning Hurricane aor severe T-Storms that are predicted to last more than the usual 30 minutes

PS please report back on the polar patio experience i am really excited about it TIA

Plus, I would not make adjustments for weather until at most 3 days before the day. 10 day forecasts are kind of a joke, and I would only let it affect your planning it says lightening a day or two before you go.

This is what I was going to say! Living in Florida, I can definitely speak to the fluid nature of our weather "forecasts", particularly in the summer. It's okay to prepare just in case, but I would make any changes or anything until no more than three days in advance.
