Disney wants to dominate the Marvel Universe as soon as possible...

What about the Captain America and Thor movies coming out next year? I can totally see these characters being marketed big time by Disney, as most of the Fantasyland upgrades seem to be girl-centric.

They need to do more with their own characters at DHS. Monsters Inc Rollercoaster!

Fact of the matter is Disney now owns Marvel making that division as much a part of the Walt Disney Company as say, ABC Television or Pixar.

Exactly my feelings on the whole thing JB2K...Pixar characters are only Disney characters because they were bought...they were all created by the folks at Pixar, not Disney...and I remember quite a bit of backlash online when Pixar started being introduced into the parks since they weren't Disney...same thing for the Muppets (though not as many people complained)...if/when Marvel is introduced to the parks in the form of rides/shows/characters their will be the initial "outrage" but it will pass just like everything else

And I don't see Universal giving up the rights to it's Marvel characters anytime soon unless Disney is willing to pay out both ends...financially what they pay in fees to Marvel (Disney) is chump change compared to the money they have invested in IOA and the Marvel rides and merch...and for the time being I don't think Disney cares about the characters at IOA since they know it would be years before they could be fully utilized at WDW so for the time being they will take the rent checks from Universal and sell non-IOA merch in its stores...they will make far more money having the film rights to these upcoming movies than putting Marvel in it's FL parks

Disney chose not to get involved with the marketing/distribution with those two films (since they are both already in some stage of post-production).

Both movies, like Iron Man and Iron Man 2, are being handled by Paramount/Viacom, who was Marvel's (pre-Disney) original partner.

However, since those characters are both going to be in The Avengers, you can bet Disney will not be letting them go...

Thank you.

Yes, Disney purists (literally) had a cow when characters from Pixar and The Muppets franchises started being included in Disney merchandise/marketing, etc.

Looking-back, acquiring Pixar was a good gamble for Disney, as those characters have now been elevated to the same status as Mickey and the rest, while adding to the Walt Disney Company's fortunes after a string of really bad animated films (Treasure Planet, Home on the Range).

It will be intersting to see how Disney eventually integrates Marvel's thousands of characters into what I call "Mainstream Disney Marketing"...

I'm betting on an expansion at DHS (since I'm in agreement with Disney Dad Canada that the MK is becoming a bit "girl-centric").

Thor ride in Norway? Hmmm.... I say thee nay!

Back!! Back!! Over the falls!!! Disappear!! Disappear!!

Interesting discussion.

I would not have a problem with Marvel characters at DHS. But not at MK. Seeing Spider Man "flying" from the castle would be horrible.

The Marvel characters are too different than the Disney characters at MK.

Build a Marvel park or put the Marvel characters at DHS. But not at MK.

Ok I just had to pass this on since we all know it is true lol

I was in line at the airport for boarding and the lady next to me said she heard that universal is takening down every ride with Marvel in it and Disney is going to have a 5 park with just Marvel characters. When I asked her where she head it she said a bus driver told her. It was all I could do to not burst out laughing. But we all know the bus drivers are in the know.

Thank you.

Did they literally have a cow? Really, they gave birth to an actualy calf? :)

Seriously, the Pixar/Disney connection is fairly deep (moreso than the Muppet one).

John Lasseter was a Disney animator and probably would have happily stayed there if not fired. He then went to the fledgling Pixar (then still part of Lucasfilms). He was very instrumental in the transition of Pixar from a part hardware company to a purely animation company.

So yes, while Pixar started life under Lucas and then Jobs, possibly the key driving factor that made Pixar what it is came from Disney.
