Disney waited for Star Wars: The Force Awakens to proceed with theme park plans

I wonder, is Star Wars a draw to children?

I'm not sure about the motion pictures but Disney is really pushing Star Wars through cartoons with Star Wars Rebels, Star Wars Clone Wars, Star Wars Droids, and Lego Star Wars.

Disney XD seems to show Star Wars, Spiderman, The Avengers, or Marvel related cartoons half the day.

Personally I can't wait for a Star Wars expansion at both DHS and DL to happen but I hope DLs is in Tommorowland, I like Toon Town.

If my two are any indication, yes. Both want to go back and do the Jedi Training Academy again. Or as they call it, "Battle Darth Vader." If you look at WDW on the whole there is tons of princess stuff in MK, and Epcot. For boys you have pirates, and Cars. My boy is luke warm on pirates and at 6, has already out grown Cars. This is a great way to get more boys to enjoy Disney.

They ARE spending in Florida..."Avatarland" is currently being constructed (finally!), and several rumors focus on Star Wars coming to DHS in lieu of the planned Cars Land duplicate.

I didn't see that implication - in fact, what he states is that they "now have a sense" of what will be in the movies beyond 7. Those movies have already been through pre-production and the first interstitial movie should be entering production soon.

If nothing else, just from Disney's history lately on building anything WDW. Avatar was announced in 2011. They finally broke ground earlier this year. And it won't open until 2017.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by the first sentence. Are you talking about Star Tours? It's hard to use the wait time of that attraction as it has a large top capacity and is variable based on crowd levels and staffing requirements.

Plenty of children are familiar with Star Wars itself, if that's what you are referring to. My kids loved <i>Star Wars: The Clone Wars</i>. There are kinda "meh" on <i>Star Wars Rebels</i> so far though. And they LOVE Star Tours, especially since the update, and it was a goal for both of them to become the Rebel Spy (and they were)

Pretty subjective question, but I know several people 15 and under who actually prefer the original trilogy.

*** My 10 and 7 year old prefer the original triology as well ***

Here's hoping that they handle it well. I'm one of those people who are less than excited about Avatarland.....or AK for that matter.

Does anyone else smell the same fish?

The "we are planning to give ourselves enough time...so we can get it right" dog and pony?

Hmmmm... Seems like all "fast tracked" developments In Orlando of late...doesn't it?

Funny how they had a Star Wars sequel in preproduction before they announced the buyout...
Guess "time" was the enemy there huh?

Funny how that works...:)

The only thing that was done before the purchase was announced was George going to the Big 3 and seeing if they were on board or, in Harrison's case, what it would take to get them on board. Maybe they were working on their writer/director short lists but not much else. Iger makes a good point. If they're going to spend a boatload of money adding attractions to the parks they're going to want to make sure the new trilogy and spin offs are represented.

While I'm not criticizing how they've proceeded with tv and movies...I'm not buying when it comes to parks.

I think it's more standard m.o. than you think...

Stall...delay..."plan"...and sell packages for 5-10
Years based on promises...

It's not like this isn't a bankable NO RISK property.

You can build something with old property...then if the kids like it...build more.

It's working with harry potter...

This "we have to incorporate 40 years worth of
Stuff into 1 development" is a little budget.

You know I'm right here. Florida is gonna get shafted here...I'm a Thinking.

2.) Was original Star Wars trilogy about the plot or the effects? Does original Star Wars trilogy have staying power for the next generation? Would youngsters today be as impressed with the effects of original trilogy or do these look hockey (like those of us who are old enough who regularly viewed black & white movies)?
.

Special effects at the time the original movies came out were stunning, and beyond anything we could imagine, however the trilogy is about the plot, not the effects. Lucas read a LOT of Joseph Campbell and based the story on what he learned from Campbell's "Hero with a Thousand Faces" which explores universal themes in legend, myth, and story throughout history and the world. The Coming of Age story of Luke Skywalker parallels that of King Arthur and other legendary heroes and speaks to a jungian need in the human experience.

The story is universal, even though the special effects are now almost comical.

i personally think its a bigger draw and is being pushed to the 10 and under crowd...wise move as well because it accomplishes two things
1. new generation of star wars fans
2. biggest merchandise demographic is the 10 and under crowd

Exactly, the effects got everyone's attention but the story keeps it relevent almost 40 years later. This is on my wish list. I've read excerpts of it. Basically, what I've read talks about how the drafts of the scripts changed to appease studio execs and especially the influence Campbell played. Dark Horse published a graphic novel of the first draft of the script. It is a lot more Buck Rogers and less King Arthur. To be honest, I don't think the original draft, if it was made into a movie, would still be talked about today.

Oooooooo!! Now do I put that on my Christmas Wish List, or buy it for my husband...
