Background - My husband, another couple, and I are taking a trip to WDW for 6 days, 5 nights. My husband and I have been to Disney 3x in the past 3 years, so we decided we would like to see Universal. Our friends haven't been to Disney in a long time, so I think they would rather stay at Disney.

Probably didn't need to know all that, but my question is... Is it totally out of the question to do both Universal and IOA in one day and just do the adult stuff? We are thinking about a Monday, is that a busy day. Oh, and this is also the last week of August if that makes a difference.

Next question - we are staying on CBR at Disney, so what is the best way to get to Universal/IOA? I have priced the Mears shuttle for $15 round-trip and so far that seems to be our best bet.

Thoughts?

My last trip we were able to do US and IOA in two 3/4 days (not 2 and 3/4 days, two separate days 3/4 of the day each), but that was including table service meals. I think it's definitely do-able if you know what you want to do ahead of time. I'm not sure how crowds are on Mondays, but I've heard that late August tends to be a little quieter.

P.S. We used the Mears shuttle and it worked great. Don't know of any less expensive options.

I know everyone is different but for me, US has very little to offer other than the Mummy and Shreck. If you have a chance try to catch Donkey outside the Shreck ride. It is VERY funny. IOA is really fun and since you won't have kids you can pretty much skip the Dr. Seuss theme area. I would walk through it though since it is really neat to see.

We did both parks in one day with a 4 year old. We did split up for part of the day as the thrill seekers did the Hulk and Fire/Ice and the non-thrill seeker took my son to ride the Cat in the Hat ride 10 times.

Another option I would like to throw out there. Have you thought of renting a car? If you're only going to Uni/IOA for one day it might not be worth it, but I think it would be a tough swing to do both parks in one day unless you got there at opening. Also, there would be quite a bit of walking involved. There are some great food options off disney property (emeril's and tchoup chop being two in the area) and it might be worth it to rent a car. Just my two cents.

Thank you for the replies! This is probably a stupid question, but the 2 parks are w/in walking distance right? Not like Disney parks where you have to take a bus/monorail/boat?

The entrances to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure are right next to each other. :thumbsup2 Could not be more convenient!! Citywalk is also right there, with the Hard Rock Cafe, Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville, etc. Don't miss Men In Black, Spiderman, and Shrek!! Have a great time!! :woohoo:

Without kids, you should be able to see the best attractions at both parks in one day. I don't know what the crowds are like in August, but we were there over spring break and went to IOA on a Saturday and a Monday. Monday was definitely less crowded than Saturday.
You should really try to be there by opening time. Even during spring break season, we enjoyed very short wait times for the first couple hours each day.
