Disney vs. RCCL

I do not have PERSONAL experience with 4 people in a room. We had originally booked the 4 of us in a room for our first RCCL cruise last summer. I met someone on the cruise critic thread, who suggested that I investigate a little further with RCCL and see what it would cost for 2 adjoining rooms. If memory serves me right.......it was only about $200.00 more to put our two kids in the room next door. We kept the door open, so it was like having one room. That also means we had 2 toilets, showers and sinks to use! I did see in a few rooms on this last Freedom cruise. One room had the twins pushed together to make a queen, then above the bed, on each side, a bunck bed came out of the ceiling.......much like Disney's. Another room had the Queen, and a sofa bed.

My suggestion is to call RCCL........explain that you want 4 people in a cabin. Have him/her price out adjoining rooms. While RCCL cabins are a little smaller than a Disney cabin......we could afford the 2. I will also add, that we had interior rooms, as we have always had on Disney. On a ship like Teh Freedom and The Liberty....the time we spent in our room was minimal, at best.

Silly question for all of you RCCL cruisers, but it is a deal breaker for my family. In those cabins that sleep 4, is the 3-4 bed a double pull out bed, or is it similar to DCL with the drop-down bunk? My family doesn't work when it comes to the boys sharing a double bed.

It all depends on the cabin. Many quad cabins on RCCL ships have a 3rd and
4th pullman bed bed, which means that each boy would have his own bed. If you look at the deck plans for the ship, if it has a triangle listed next to the cabin number, then THAT is a sofa bed. Which means the boys would have to share.

Look for the cabins with the 2 uppers.

And in our experience, the suites have the sofa beds. The lower categories have the upper pullmans. But, when going into a suite category, you would have room for a rollaway in the cabin. So you essentially would have 2 queen beds and one single.

I went thru a TA...but I first researched all the sights for the best deals being offered and informed my TA so she was able to negotiate the best price. When we booked our celebrity cruise thru a TA the price actually went down after we booked three times. So be sure to to keep checking the website and if you see a price reduction call your TA so she can get the better price for you. I was actually surprised that they do this after booking.....We ended up paying about $800.00 less than we originally booked at...:banana:

We booked our first RCCL through the website......that price never went down. We booked the 6/21/09 cruise while ON the 6/21/08 cruise. THAT price dropped MANY times!!!! We went for MUCH less than our original booking price. Watch the website........once, my price dropped two times in one week.

The last time I posted here was for our Nov 2009 cruise with RCCL on the Explorer of the Seas. I booked November 29th 2009 while on that cruise. Last year we paid $3,200 for a 12 day cruise. This year our cost after two price reductions is $1,996. That includes all taxes and Insurance. In a oceanview that is 188 sf. Needless to say we are very happy. :dance3:

Could you PM that to me also :goodvibes And does anyone know how you go about getting OBC's for RCCL?? Any info on this would be awesome!! TIA!:cool1:
Hey, Holley! What are you loooking to book? We have a 7day Eastern on Freedom of the Seas booked for June 6, 2010. Come join us!:cool1:

Royal Caribbean has a "WOW" sale several times a year. The deposits are reduced, and you're given an onboard credit. The amount of OBC depends on the type of cabin you book and the length of the cruise.

Oh My GOSH! That is awesome!

We rebooked while on our June 21 cruise. RCCL had a special going......only $100.00 deposit per person. That was nice! :woohoo:

Hmmm do you know when the next WOW sale will be:rolleyes1
There are OBCs if you book onboard.

Does anyone know how to get an OBC without booking onboard:rotfl:

I'm looking at taking the plunge and trying Freedom of the Seas. We have a DCL booked for October 2010, but I'm about to start a job with a school, so no more vacations during the school year for us.

I priced a DCL Eastern Caribbean during spring break and a cat 6 came out to $7204.08 for our family of 4. Just for kicks, I checked with RCCL and Freedom has a similar Eastern Caribbean cruise, but I can get a jr. suite for $5546 or a D1(probably equivalent to cat 6 on DCL?) for $4566.76! That makes it so much more appealing.

I also looked at Oasis and the price is still cheaper than DCL, but more than Freedom of the Seas. But the airfare to Miami may be more $$$. What to do?:confused3

Have you tried Fort Lauderdale Airport? Is the Oasis leaving from Miami? I took RCL Liberty of the Seas from that port and flew into FFL.

Hi Nik's Mom!
We were on FOS in June and it was the best vaction ever!!!! The ship is awesome and loads of fun!! I would highly recommend it. Now this ship is large!! I might like to sail FOS first before booking Oasis if I were you. I can't quite imagine how big Oasis will be! I would sail Freedom class first and then take the plunge to Oasis especailly for that price of sailing FOS that you quoted. Just my two cents! You will have a fabulous time no matter what you decide.

We found the same as you. The Freedom was much cheaper and still a bit less than Oasis. Let the newness of the Oasis wear off and then book that later on. As mentioned by a PP check FLL it may be a bit less. There is about a 45 min ride from the FLL airport to Miami port (or hotel in the port area the night before), but could be worth it if you choose to do that.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for your suggestions. Tneah, you are right. Oasis sails out of Ft. Lauderdale. So, I could fly non-stop with Southwest. But airfare will be high for spring break.

The plus in sailing on Freedom of the Seas is that it is in Port Canaveral and we could drive if airfare is too high. Ft Lauderdale would take several hours more on a drive, so I don't think we'd be willing to do that. Maybe Freedom would work out better then.

But Oasis looks sooooo cool! We are in the same debate (but the cruise is more $$ since we have 5). We all love the Aquatheater!

We are debating too. It's so hard to decide. The Aquatheater looks cool, and so does the boardwalk! I printed out their brochure to show dh and his head was spinning from all of the information.

I see your cruise date is in June. We had looked into that same cruise date for Freedom of the Seas, but the price was $1000 more than our March 14th date. That's when our kids are off for spring break, so we'll take advantage of the cheaper price.
