Do you go to a higher tier hotel at Disney then if you go to another place like Paris?

I tend to stay bottom tier at WDW, a bit nicer on most other trips. I'm usually solo and feel that the Deluxe hotels at Disney are crazy over priced. We don't find Paris all that expensive, I can get an apartment in the Marais for less than $1000/week. Jackson Hole/Grand Teton National Park, OTOH.......

Ha. Jackson Hole has to be the most expensive place west of the Mississippi. My in-laws used to have a house there.... needless to say we haven't been back on our own dollar!

wow it would depend what hotels you are looking for. I always presumed many people would camp at nearby Yellowstone

We spend more on some trips, less on others. Major cities tend to get pricey, at or occasionally above Disney costs. Outdoorsy trips tend to be cheaper, well below what we spend to do WDW.

As far as where we stay, we've done everything from rustic cabins to luxury resorts. That choice has more to do with the destination and the nature of the trip, how much time we'll be spending at our hotel/resort, the length of our stay, and what we want from our accommodations than with general travel habits. The one difference that is pretty much absolute is that Disney is the one place where I don't routinely book suites or vacation homes rather than standard hotel rooms, because being on site is more important than the space and amenities that we usually want.

Yeah, not in this family. We don't camp.

Jackson Hole has really become a playground for the very wealthy. The Four Seasons in JH is exquisite and makes the Grand Floridian look inexpensive and like a motel. Jackson Hole has become incredibly expensive- from lodging to restaurants.

So having been to Paris/London, Disney (CA,FL,Paris), Atlanta and Washington DC in the past year I voted no.

I consider Disney to be lower in tier (vs Price) than hotels at other locations. In general I like MidRange chains because I'm just not a sit around the hotel kind of girl. I will pay more if it affords me something in return or if I'm traveling with folks and we will be at the hotel more. However in the real world if I'm going to pay $200+ a night it's not going to be at the tier compatible with a Disney Value or Mod, it's going to be better.

Deluxes or Moderates at Disney are no way comparable to what I would get in the real world for the same price. Also in the real world I would not pay $140 what I get a Disney Value.

So I actually pay more for less when I stay at Disney so I consider that staying at a lower tier hotel.

Don't get me wrong. I stayed at all levels and do Disney Values with no regrets. As I said I am not a sit around the resort kind of girl and honestly for what I need (a place to sleep/shower, safe, clean, plus onsite perks) it doesn't make sense for me to get to a Disney Deluxe but pay twice what I think it's worth.

We stay at nicer hotels for less money in many other places. In NYC I probably pay more than anywhere else for a room for only 2 people, because I lived there for a long time and am pretty choosy about where I stay when I go back to NY.

yes the Mandarin is 695 dollars a night from memory. Nice hotel but stupid policies

We're DVC members so we are essentially staying in WDW deluxe when we go. When traveling to other destinations we'll look for a good deal on something like a Hilton, Marriott, or may even a notch lower.

We tend to tat at higher tier hotels in WDW, although tbh, we stay 3+ or 4 star everywhere, and deluxe at Disney, so not far off. There is no way I would stay at a hotel where the room door was straight out onto the outside with small children.

We like the amenities and transport options.

But we know a WDW vacation is probably double what we would spend on the same number of days elsewhere. But then, for that I guess we are getting all that theme park time, and, as a captive audience are subject to the inflated prices.

IMO, Disney hotels are ridiculously expensive. I wouldn't pay that kind of money anywhere else.

Especially for what they give you for the price.

I actually am willing to pay more for more when I stay at universal. Though often I'm paying less for the more that their onsite deluxes offer.

I don't think deluxe Disney hotels are luxury five star hotels. The amenities and service are not on par.

True.

I always thought people on this board went to deluxe hotels here and went to moderate hotels elsewhere. Because they love Disney so much. I guess I am wrong. Nothing wrong with that presuming they had the money

Why would you think "people on this board" do any one thing?

And loving Disney doesn't mean you stay deluxe. For many, loving Disney means they want to go more and therefore you budget your trips and stay at lower rate places as needed.

Why would you stay, let alone camp, at Yellowstone if you're going to Jackson Hole? If I'm at Yellowstone I'm at Yellowstone.

Best HOTELS for the $$$ imho is Las Vegas.

Except for the smoking thing. Which makes them worth nothing to me.

It would not depend on what hotels you are looking at. In Jackson hole and a few places in Colorado, the rat hole hotels often go for 300-400 during summer.

Have you been there? It's a pretty big area and Yellowstone isn't that nearby. Some people want dining options that don't involve driving at night. And as for me, I like a shower. If I can't get a reservation at a campground with a shower, we are not camping.

Yeah, because the resort fee and parking fee really makes those such a bargain:lmao: talk about getting ripped off...

I usually go on a comped room but have paid for the Wynn and Venetian/Palazzo. Beautiful Rooms.

Parking is FREE in Vegas at most properties (free valet at many hotels).

Nope, last year several places started charging for parking. Not everyone charges yet, but I'm sure that's coming.
